It's been real, it's been fun, but it hasn't been real fun

A lot of things go though my head as a sport season that I follow so closely gets done. More so then in football in basketball and baseball I get to see so many games. Being a NY Giant fan in Michigan I am lucky if I get to see 3 or 4 games during the year. For the tigers and my beloved pistons I see about 60 or so pistons games, and at least 100 or so tiger games. Now I still have the tigers, who as I am writing this are trying to hang on up 7-4 to SEA in a game that they scored all 7 runs in the first, and have already left 14 runners on base, and we are only in the 7. Watching the pistons the last 6 years or so has been great, it really has, during most of that time I was in college, I would watch a lot of games at the bar, with lots of my friends, just drinking, and cheering and having a great time. By most peoples standard we were a success. Got to two finials, won one of them, and have been to 6 conference finals in a row. But we are not happy on this day, nor have we be since 2004. Maybe we are wrong, but we feel, at least I do, and I know a lot of my friends do, that we have been the best team in the NBA the last 6 years and should have more then one title to show for it. I am not saying we should have won all 6, but at least more then one. A few things should and I think will happen, first, flip is gone, there is no way he is staying. Look at his record and you would think I am crazy, but the coach before was here two years, went to two finals, the coached before him was fired after a 50+ win season, we are not interested in reg season wins, we want rings. Another question is, with a new coach will joe d give this group one more chance, or try to drop sheed when he can still get something for him. Billups is staying, and I think rip is very safe as well, and ta ta is going to be the future of the team with stuck and max, and then hopefully more pt for amir Johnson. But there are a lot of veterans that might just be on their way out. Maybe it is time to get a little younger, a little more athletic and try something else, it was a good run, but not good enough. Especially with other teams in the east getting younger and better, the hawks, magic, raptors, even the bucks, and then of course their is the lebrons and the Celtics. Also the heat and bulls should both be back in the playoffs next year, so it might be time to do some things. I am a big sheed fan so I will be sad if he is not a piston anymore, I have 6, yes 6 sheed jerseys, and I love the guy, but I am a piston fan, and if moving him is the best thing for the team I can live with that...... ( for the record... I am writing this right after they lost the series when sheed just went 2-12, including 0-6 from 3, so once I settle down I am sure I will change my mind and be really pissed if the pistons let him go, you just caught me at one of the only times in my life that I will rip sheed).. anyway, I do still love him, but if we can get a young cheaper athletic guy and maybe a second round pick, I am good with it.

I would like to say quickly to all real Boston fans that have been through all the bad years, and stuck with their team, congratulations, you deserve this, you have a great team, and in the 4th quarter you just wanted it more tonight, and it showed, the better and more hungry team won, and I wish you luck in the NBA finals... which I have the Celtics winning in 6, winning games 1, 2, 4, and 6.....

one other sad, quick, random note... the last two movies that I went to see in the theaters, one which I picked to see, both had full frontal male nudity. Not something I expect when I go to the cinema, but what ever... and yeah the last one was the sex in the city movie, two good things, one, I did go with my fiance so I scored some points there, and two, hey I got to see some boobs as well, and that is always a good thing... I will now go cry myself to sleep and try to regroup... and get ready for next year.. the draft is coming up, less then a month. I'm right, you're wrong

got to have faith

For the 4th year in a row my beloved pistons are down 3-2 in the eastern conference finals. But I still have faith they can win this series, and still win a championship. In 2005 they won game 6 in Detroit and then beat the heat on the road in game 7. The Celtics have already lost two games sixes on the road to teams not as good as the pistons, so the pistons can win the game, and then the series. Game 7 will be very tough to win on the road in Boston but that doesn't mean it can not be done. The big thing is kendrick perkins can not score 18 points and have 16 rebounds, that just can't happen. I have always felt the stars will get their points, the Boston 3 party can have their 25 a piece but the other players, rondo, perkins, house, posey, E.T. aka sam cassel, pj brown, big baby and leon pown, those guys have to score under 10 points, not any one of them can go off. Really the pistons won game 4 because of max and the great game he had. He needs to do it again tomorrow. Boston can close it out tomorrow, but I am not that worried about it happening, I think the pistons will have enough pride not to loose at home and end their season.

This brings me to an interesting question, is it better to like a team that never is good, never really makes the playoffs and you are happy just getting to 500, or a team that gets to conference finials after conference finials, always has the first or second best record in the league and then they find ways to not win it all. Looking at the last 5 reg. seasons it would be hard to believe that the pistons have one title... 6 conference finials in a row, 2 nba finials.. but only one title. There last two coaches, one was fired after making it to the conference finals and having at least 50 wins every year he coached their, and the other coached for two years, and got to two NBA finials, winning one, and walked away.. Now flip has been to the conference finals every year, this was the first year he didn't have the best record in the east, and it was the second best not only in the east, but in the entire nba, and piston fans, me included, can't stand him, we want him gone, we all think he is a terrible coach. He has won more playoff series in 3 years then a lot of coaches would ever dream of, and we are trying to run him out of town, because he has not won a championship. I actually asked myself this question two football seasons ago after the giants won the final game of the year against the skins to make the playoffs. I was really happy and my roommate at the time told me, " why are you happy, you will just be more pissed off when they lose next week." which they ended up doing. Compare that to one of my old college roommates who for some reason likes the dolphins, I can't help you with this one, he also likes the pens in hockey, after a 1-15 year, you have no where to go but up, everyone you draft you think, man this guy will be the one to turn it around, if you lose in the first round of the playoffs each year, there usually isn't a guy at 24 that you think, man I am so glad we got him, he will be the differences for us. Of course this is all worth it when your team does win it all. The giants this year was amazing, I think what made it better was I never once thought they were going to win in any playoff game after the bucks, I was happy they were there. The pistons I don't worry about them until game 5 or 6 of a series, I am that confident that they can pull it out. 2004 was great, going to the bar for all the games, the entire place going crazy, celebrating after each win, like we were there and had a lot to do with the outcome, but then came 2005 game 7, 2006 game 7 of the ecf, games3-6 of the ecf in 2007, and now game 5 of the 2008 ecf. Will the pistons give me hope and win tomorrow night and force a game 7, yeah I think they will, but maybe only to tow with me more and lose game 7. I have faith that they can, and will win game 6, and I even have faith they can win game 7 in Boston. I will be watching Celtic pride, they lose both games in that movie, to work on the jinx, it worked before game two, and it needs to work again.

On the other series real quick, cause I know this has been long. I have this feeling the spurs will win tonight, and in game 6, only to run out of gas and the younger Lakers will win the series at home in 7. But Kobe might be out for blood tonight and drop like 45. Lets go pistons. I'm right, you're wrong

8 to go

well it's mid may, which means only one thing, the pistons are back in the eastern conference finials, again. I am looking forward to what should be a good series will the Celtics, and I must say, it worked out better then I could have thought, and we have no excuses, the pistons need to win this series. Their window is closing, they are well rested, and the Celtics have had two 7 game series in a row, and have yet to win on the road. The pistons will win game 1, 3, 4, and 6 and win this series and go on to the nba finals to play the lakers, that is if the Horents beat the spurs tonight, which I don't think they will do. The spurs will win tonight and beat the lakers in 6. In other news, I am starting to get semi worried about my tigers, 6 and a half back, ten games under 500, not what I had in mind, I was ok with the slow start, but it really isn't that early anymore, I still have faith, that they can turn it around and win the central, but they have some work to do... they should do a few things:
1) have inge play 3rd- he is your best defender at that spot by far, and he isn't that bad of a hitter
2) put carlos back at 1st- much better range then manny jr
3) manny jr needs to either DH, or lose 20 lbs and play left field, if he is the DH, then sheff has to play left, which is fine, it just means granderson has to go basically from foul line to foul line, which he can almost do, cause he is sick
4) Trade thames for some bullpen help.. or try to trade sheff, or just drop him, and have rayburn, cleveland, or joyce play left.. or hell, keep manny jr at 1, where he is a big defensive nightmare, then have carlos play thrid and have inge play left.. or trade inge for bull pen help and have thames play left

bottom line, something needs to happen, they have options, we might need to use some of them.

On a different note, only 108 days till the first NFL game, that is good news. I will end this with a joke I heard yesterday that I really liked,

so a boy comes home from school, and walks up stairs and ends up waling in on his parents having sex, his dad is on top just really giving it to his wife, and he just gives him a thumbs up, which makes the son quickly close the door. well about a week later the dad's mother was visiting and he went to her room to see her after he got back from work, and walked in to find his son on top of her, with her legs up in the air, just really pounding her. The son looked up and said.. " not so funny, when it's your mom is it."

nba playoffs

so with the second round in full swing I have some thoughts on the NBA playoffs. My pistons will win game 5 and finish off the magic, stealing that game on the road with out billiups was big, it is all over, and to make it better, jamer nelson said the magic will win game 5.. thanks man.. just when I was worried they might not come out ready to play.. we appreciate that. The spurs are right back in it, but I will say they need to win game 5 to win the series, cause if they don't, they can win game 6, but I don't think they could win game 7 on the road, cause that place would be going crazy.. I still like the spurs to get it done, in 6.. The lakers and jazz are in a great series too, I see that going 7, and the lakers winning, which I think that is what I predicted at the beginning of the playoffs.. The cavs were back thanks to lebron playing like he knew how to play basketball, and not misses every shot he took. But he still needs wally, boobie, and west to make shots, it is that simple, if they don't, that series is over.. as a piston fan, I hope it goes 7, and they tire each other out, and the pistons can pick up the peaces of what is left. Other then that, things are good, just waiting for the tigers to play better more consistently. I am just happy we are done with the red sox for the year, thank god... Now we just need to start winning some series and get back in it.. The nice thing is no one in the central is playing great night now, so we are still right there, and I still think the tigers can, and will, win the division. Other then that, all NBA playoffs, all the time, life is good.. I'm right, you're wrong
