NBA mid season report

We are past the half way point in games, but I thought now would be a good time to look at my preseason picks and see how I am doing. I will admit I have not followed the NBA as closely has I have in the past, I follow college, and even Michigan High School ball more, but I still love my Pistons, and I would still watch a NBA game over a lot of other things... so here we go.... lets first look at my playoff and all star picks in the preseason... I copied and pasted, but if you want to look back at the original, you can.

East:

1) Pistons
8) Hawks
4) Heat
5) Magic
3) Cavs
6) 76ers
2) Celtics
7) Raptors

1) Pistons
4) Heat
3) Cavs
2) Celtics

1) Pistons
2) Celtics

1) Pistons

All Stars:
D wade
M Redd
Lebron
KG
Dwight Howard
Billups
Brand
Jaminson
Josh Smith
A.I. 2.0
C.W. Bosh
P.P.

Now in the east, I have 4 of the 5 all star starters.. can blame me for AI, since he wasn't in the east at the start of the year, as far as the bench, Billups, made the west team, then Bosh and PP made the team, Jaminson, AI 2.0 and Brand did not have good first halfs, and Josh Smith was hurt, and some other guys, Granger, played well, so he wasn't an all star. For the playoffs.. just looking at teams, I have 7 of the 8, and the raptors or 3 games out of the 8th spot. I also said I like the Bucks as my sleeper team, and I wanted to put them as the 8th seed, but changed my mind... but now that Redd is done for the year, they should fall off. I didn't get one seed right.. but at least I got the teams right.

West:

1) Lakers
8) Mavs
4) Jazz
5) Rockets
3) Horents
6) Suns
2) Spurs
7) Blazers

1) Lakers
5) Rockets
3) Horents
7) Blazers

5) Rockets
3) Horents

3) Horents

All Stars:
CP3
Kobe
T Mac- The yao voting factor
A Stodimire
Yao
D Williams
S Nash
Duncan
B Roy
Melo
Boozer
Dirk

In the west I also had 4 of 5 all star starters, the Yao T mac voting factor failed me, injuries.... duncan, roy and dirk all made the team, however, nash, d wills, melo and boozer all did not. For the playoffs I also have 7 of the 8 teams. The team I don't have, denver, again, is much different then they were at the start of the year, I didn't see that trade coming. As far as seeds, the lakers are one, and the spurs are two, as I predicted, and then for the most part the other 5 are only off a spot or two. The team that I had making the playoffs who are not there, the Jazz are a game and a half back.. so they are ok.

Overall this has been a odd first half, with the Lakers, Celtics, Cavs, and Magic all really jumping out quick and having some great records, and they are all starting to run away in their division. The second half should be fun, as if the Jazz get healthy I think they will make the playoffs, and I think the Mavs will be the team to fall out. In the east, my Pistons can start playing anytime now, that would be great. They play the Cavs tomorrow, who we have already beaten once, so we will see what happens. On national TV, something tells me Lebron might want to make a statement... this might get ugly. Of course maybe the Pistons want to show, we are not going any where, and even if we are the 4th or 5th seed, the eastern conference champs still have to go though us. Should be a good game. It is the game I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Switching to college basketball for a second if I can, which I can, cause it's my blog, it has been another crazy week. Wake beats Duke at the buzzer, then looses to uga tech at the buzzer, that was uga tech's first ACC win btw, they are now 1-6. Gonzaga beat St Mary's, and Pat Mills, you had to leave the game in the first, I think it is reported he broke his hand, if that is true, and he is out for awhile, or just isn't 100%, we shall see how they play. he is the real deal, and no team would be better off without him. In women's college basketball, which I know a lot of you may not care about, but on Monday Pat Summit is going for her 1,000 win, yeah 1,000. I don't care, that is impressive, and she is without a doubt one of the best college basketball coaches, and really just one of the best coaches period, of all time, any sport, any level, any gender. It will be tough, against number two ranked OK, but if it doesn't happen then, it will soon after.

Super bowl tomorrow.. I will make my official pick Steelers 24 Cards 14.. but I am hoping for Cards 31 Steelers 28. I'm right, you're wrong.

It is getting bad

The Pistons are really struggling right now, and I am worried, however, they do play in the east, which of course top to bottom, isn't as good as the west, so I am not worried about them missing the playoffs. I know they will still make it, but they do need to start playing better, and have this thing turned around before then. They still have lots of time, but the Cavs and Celtics are playing so good right now, they are just running away with it, they will be lucky to somehow catch the magic and get the 3 seed. They can do no worse then the 4-5 match up, or it will not be good around here. They need to figure out what to do. They just gave RIP an extension, but now they almost should try to trade him, since you are not going to trade Stuck, or AI, since he has one year left in his deal, and you are trying to clear up cap space. I just hope they start playing with the talent they have.

This is going to be a big basketball week for me the next few days. Tonight, Duke and Wake is on, but I don't really care, I will be at Rose Area to watch CMU girls play Temple and then the men play Ohio, in a big conference game. Tomorrow my team that I am an assistant coach at have a conference game on the road vs Bay City Central, they host districts so it will be nice to go there and make a statement and play well. The last two games, we have had great first quarters, up 24-3 and 27-9 respectfully, and then bad 2nd and 3rd, in one the lead got to 8, the other 4, before good 4th quarters saved us to earn two double digit wins, by 18 and 12. But we need to do a better job getting on teams and not letting them back in the game. On Friday, after practice, I will be going to watch 4 guys that I use to coach, 3 on one team, one on the other, play each other in a big high school game. Both teams are undefeated, so it should be fun to watch. Also Friday two of my best girl friends in the world are coming up and will be in town, so I am going to go out with them, and my old roommate for a little bit, I am really looking forward to that. Should be a great rest of the week, there is something else this weekend, but I can't remember what it is right now....

oh yeah, the Super Bowl. I really don't care, I don't know if it is because last year I cared so much, cause the Giants were in it, and this year, with the way they were going, I actually thought they were going back there, and got my hopes up, that now, ever since they lost, I really don't care about football for the rest of the year. I didn't watch either championship game, and I really just want the season to be over, and draft prep to officially start. I will be cheering for the Cards, but I do think the Steelers will win, but as of right now, I am planning on just staying at home with my wife and daughter, and kind of watching it.

I don't think there is anything else to talk about right now. College basketball conference season is really heating up, and every day it seems there is a big game.. Like tomorrow, I will get back from my game just in time to watch St Mary's and Gonzaga play at 11 on epsn2, I am really looking forward to that one.. Go Zags. I'm right, you're wrong.

Some Saturday thoughts

First, my Chippewas just beat NIU on the road by 13, and the MAC is just like every other conference, road wins are hard to come by. Great win for the chips, I hope this continues as the season goes on. The MAC is wide open, it is a one bid league, for sure, so wining the mac tourney is all that matters, but it is nice to get some confidence.

Kay Yow- A very said day as coach Yow lost her 21 year battle with cancer today and past away at 66. She was a great coach, and from everything I hear, a better person. Over 700 wins, plus two gold medals, in 84 and 88, one as head coach. She battled for a long time, and I don't know anyone who doesn't know someone who has been touched by that disease. I can only hope someday, we can find a cure. Don't give up, don't ever give up.

In tonight's addition of top 15 big east teams playing ND puts their nation long 45 game win streak at home on the line vs Uconn. I think that Uconn is the better team, and has more talent. I actually don't think anyone would disagree with that, but I like ND at home, and I think they will be ready to go. I like ND to win 75-71. Either way, I look forward to watching it.

There are some other games on right now, UCLA-Was is a one point game at half, and well as Tenn-Mem, so I will stop this post now, and get back to it. I'm right, you're wrong.

End of a era

Last night a few streaks came to a end that I want to quickly touch one

-MSU- 28 game home winning streak, Northwestern never wining in Breslin, undefeated in conference. All of those things, gone. I truly believe MSU will be fine, and I do think they will win the big ten, it is a very good conference and 3 or even 4 losses could easily win it. But to lose to Northwestern, at home, who has never won at Breslin, that building is over 20 years old, was shocking. Northwestern just had one of those nights that make basketball fun, it just takes one game, you don't need to beat them 4 out of 7 in college, it is one night, and anyone can beat anyone, when your shots are falling and the other team can hit anything. Plus you have 7 turnovers to their 18. MSU will bounce back and be fine

-Wake- Undefeated, and number one, no more. As long as Duke doesn't lose Saturday to Maryland they will be your new number one. Wake is still a good team, though I don't think they are a top 5 team, but we shall see. Va Tech seems to have one or two big wins in conference every year and wining at Wake is one of them for sure. That is the other thing that is surprising, just like the MSU game, the better, ranked, favored team lost at home.

-Clemson- is so overrated, it happens every year, they play no one, get to 14 or 15-0 and then conference season starts. It happened last year, and they didn't even make the big dance. Now last night losing to UNC on the road is not a bad loss, but I just want to make sure everyone is clear where I stand on their basketball team, not good. Maybe they will make the ncaa tourney this year, but I don't think so, I see them still losing to duke, Maryland, va tech and maybe even free shoe, if they play them on the road.

-NJIT- This was the big one, no really, 51 losses in a row and it was snapped last night, way to go guys, nice win, and their next game is against long wood, who is the team they got their last win against before last night.... could a wining streak be started... nah.

The ends of the Marshall and South Car games last night were both very exciting, thank god for sports center.

West Virginia just beat G-town at G-town, I am reminded of what I said early about them, they have a great starting 5, but no bench, and I think that will coast them during a long and very hard big east season. I try to tell you people, it isn't my fault if you don't lsten.

Purude also beat Min on the road, Min is a nice story, Tubby has done a great job with them, and they did beat Louis, but they are going to need to get some big conference wins, or they will be on the outside looking in, or in other words, NIT bound.

Pistons played well and beat up on the Raptors last night, as RIP came off the bench for the first time in his Pistons career. The All star Starters were also announced, no big surprises.

East:
AI
D Wade
Leborn
KG
Dwight
West:
CP3
Kobe
Amare
TD
Yao

More on that later. I'm right, you're wrong

I'm back

After a great time in Hawaii, I am back. Instead of trying to play catch up, I was able to watch some games, but I didn't see any game in its entirety, I am just going to start from now, and not go back. So as things happen, today, and the rest of the week, I will start back up.

NFL Picks- Well I stayed true to my word, I didn't watch the games, but I am happy the cards won, and I thought the steelers would, either way, I am 6-4 in my playoff picks. As for the super bowl, if I watch it, I will be cheering for the Cards, it is just a great story. In saying that, I am 95% sure the Steelers will win, and 100% sure they are the better team.. My pick Steelers 24-14

Pistons- They announced that RIP will be the 6th man and no longer starting. Good thing he signed a big extension early on this year, to be our 6th man. Because of the great play of Stuck, he is our starting pg of today, and the future, so I have no problem with him starting, and of course AI will tell you, I don't come off the bench, remember that sound bite a few years back, coming off of injury, and they wanted to have him come off the bench and he did his whole "what former NBA MVP, or scoring champ, or all star comes off the bench." Then to make it better about a week later Duncan came off the bench when he returned from injury. Anyway, so know AI has to start, the Pistons could either continue going small, which wasn't working, see their losses to the thunder and bobcats, or not start RIP for the first time in his Pistons career. I think he will be fine with it, he is a good enough player, and a good enough guy to adjust and still be ready to go when his time is called. In saying all of that, I am a little worried about this team, it seems they still have the same problem, it wasn't Flip, which most of us knew, he was just easy to blame, they still play disinterested most of the time, and lose a lot of games to teams that are not even close to being in their talent level. Then against the better teams they actually play, beat the Lakers in LA, beat the Cavs, beat the Magic, raptors, they still get up for those games, then against the bobcasts, thunder, griz, and kings, they sleep walk, and maybe they win, maybe they don't. it is very hard to watch as a fan, who also coaches basketball, be in high school and AAU, but you hate to watch a team play to their competition, to not have that attitude that they are the better team and they are going to show it every night. I do understand in the NBA it is a long 82 game season and of course you are going to have off nights sometimes, but you shouldn't lose three or four games in a row, all to bad, very bad, teams.

Big ten- The conference is strong, MSU is looking really good, though their schedule hasn't been too tough at all, wining at Min, and even at PSU and Northwestern, are good wins, and ILL and OSU are both good teams, but beating them at home, was not a surprise. I do think MSU, Purdue, and Wis, are locks for the big dance still. Right now, ILL is in, and I think Michigan is in, as of now, but they are falling off a bit, they need some big conference wins. Min is started to play a little uneven, losing at northwestern, but they still only have 2 losses, and OSU is out, as of now, I think, and need to step it back up. Right now, I think the big ten has the 3 locks, and then 2 of the next 4 will get in, and maybe a 3rd.

Other then that, I will get in to more, as the week goes on. I had a great time, but it is nice to be back, and try to get caught up on sports. I'm right, you're wrong.

A week off

This will be my last post for awhile, since I will be in Hawaii until next Tuesday. So, lets take care of just a few things.

Giants- So yesterday just sucked for me as a sports fan, first my giants lose, and I really felt they lost more then phili won, I mean give them credit they played well, but the Giants didn't finish drives, didn't take care of the ball, and now that my year pass on Eli is almost over, after he won us the super bowl, I will add... PLEASE SET YOUR FEET BEFORE YOU THROW THE BALL. I would use worst words then that, but I have relaxed a little since yesterday. In saying that, it was a better reg. season that I thought it would be, and with Osi coming back, if we get another true number one wide out, we should be fine next year.

CMU- My alma mater, that I love greatly, lost by 9 last night at home to western in basketball. These losses still hurt me the most because I know everyone on the team, I have been to practices, and in the past, I have worked camps, still do, had a 540 hr internship with the program, and drove countless miles to watch them play all over this nation. The worst thing was we played with no emotion, we didn't act like we knew this was our first conference game, and a home game against our biggest rivalry. Usually in the central-western games, in both football and basketball the home team uses the crowd and the emotion and gets the win, we didn't do that last night, in stead western was the team that played harder, and showed they wanted it more, and there is no excuse for that. In saying that, it is a long season, and I will not give up on this team. and I will always be proud to be a Chippewa

Pistons- they no longer have a game this year that they can't win. We are done with the Jazz for another season, thank god. There is just no chance, we can't beat them, the curse of okur is live and well. I still like the Pistons chances this year, to quietly get back to the conference finals

Wake-UNC- Great game, and now UNC is 0-2 in the ACC, I guess they are not going undefeated all you tarheel fans, which I said they wouldn't They are still very very good, and I still think they are the favorites to win it all. Wake is better then I thought they would be, and plus, a very very good home team.

UCLA-USC- caught a little of this game, thanks FSN Sunday night PAC 10 hoops, USC played as hard as they could and tried to win the game on their home floor, but the better team won, no question about it. UCLA is still my favorite to win the PAC 10.

Cards- If I watch anymore football this year, which I really might not, I will be cheering for the cards

Picks- That brings me to my Playoff picks, I went 2-2 last week, making me a disappointing 5-3 so far, so here are my AFC and NFC title picks

NFC Title: Phili at Cards- Since this game is home, I actually think the Cards have a chance to win, they are playing very good right now. Phili is a good team, and I remember saying a few weeks ago, they just have that look of the Giants last year, just getting in to the playoffs, and having to win 3 road games. They can do it, but I will be cheering for the Cards, so I might as well pick them to win. Cards win 35-27

AFC Title: Bal at Pit- This should be a great harnose, defensive football game. Should be a fun one to watch. Steelers are rested, but the Ravens just have that feel to them as well. Just for fun, I am going with the ravens to win 14-10

Big Monday- Tonight a few great games, of course there are always big games in the big east, but tonight the big 12 also has one with OK-Texas. Not only are they both good, but they don't like each other, it should be a good one, I will have to watch a little of the first half during breaks of 24, and then at 10 give it all my attention.

Other then that, I hope everyone has a great week, I am sure I will, since I will be in Hawaii. I'm right, you're wrong.

Maybe I am alone on this

I was going to write this right after the pistons game last night, but I believe in the 24 hr rule, and now that I have had time to cool down, I can better make my point without going off, on second thought, maybe not. Here's what happened, the Pistons did need up beating the Enver by 3, which is great, Billups had 30 and AI had 23, I think, against their old teams. But this is the part I need to go off about. Up 3 with like 12 seconds left. I know the thought process, if you are up 3, don't let them get a shot off to tie the game, foul them and then they need to try to miss the second, and all that good stuff, but that only works under 5, or IMO 3 seconds. The Pistons fouled so early, the Nuggets were able to make them both, make it a one point game, foul AA, who had to make two free throws, again, after just making two right before that, then AI tries to foul again, but JR Smith is on the run, and throws up a shot, NBA continuation, and he gets 3 shots, luckily he missed the first, made the second two, back to a one point game again, then AA has to make two more free throws to get the lead back to 3, with 3.4 seconds left and Billups takes a contested 3 pointer from just inside half court that misses and the Pistons win. Of course the good news is, they won the game, but why make it so hard on your self. You had to make 4 more free throws then you would have had to, and defend them twice more while they have a chance to tie. If there is 4 seconds left, and you are up 3, and a guy gets the ball with his back turned, or not looking to shoot, sure foul him before he can get a shot up, or give it to a guy who is going to, but with that much time left, why not just have the confidence in your defense that you can get ONE spot and not give up a 3, instead of having to make 4 more free throws and get TWO more spots, which would bring your total to 3, instead of just one, if you just played straight up with 12 seconds left, guarding the 3 point line tight. It just drives me crazy. That is what you want as the team loosing, spread out the game, so there is more time for a free throw to be missed, or a big shot to be made, why give a team 3 chances if you are wining, when they should only have one. I just hate it.

But I was in a good mood since for the first time Mt Pleasant, where I coach, beat Flint Southwestern, 69-66, by hitting a 3 pointer at the buzzer. It was a sweet game, and I am so proud of my players for how hard they played and battled a team that was bigger, stronger, and more athletic then them. It was a great win for us, hopefully we can keep it going, and it will just be the beginning, not the end of our big wins this season.

The first playoff game is done, and I was right about the point spread, Ravens by 3, but I gave the offensives too much credit, I said 17-14, and it was 13-10, sorry, my bad. Now I am off to watch the Cards and Panters. I just needed to get that whole fouling up 3 thing off my chest. Tomorrow is such a big deal, Giants, CMU vs western, and 24 starts. Plus Tuesday mourning I leave for Hawaii to get married. Should be a great week. I'm right, you're wrong.

weekend preview

This should be a great weekend. Personally, Mt. Pleasant High school, where I am an assistant varsity boys basketball coach, have a big home game vs Flint Southwestern tonight, they are very athletic and very good, but if we take care of the ball and keep them off the glass, we have a chance, got to make them beat us from the outside. Hopefully we will play hard. Saturday, there are two of the NFL playoff games, as well as some good basketball match ups, louis-nova in the big east to name the one. Then on Sunday is the day I am waiting for. First off, MSU plays Kansas at 1pm, CMU plays Western at home in basketball at 6pm, and then of course my Giants also play at 1pm vs the Eagles. Plus if that wasn't enough, my favorite show, 24, is finally back with a two night 4 hr premiere. So it should be a great day. The nice thing is, even if my Giants and Chippewas don't get it done, but I am hoping and praying they will and I pick them both to win, I still have jack to fall back on. Who better to pick you up after a tough sports day then Jack Bauer.

This week a few more fun things happened in big ten basketball. MSU beat OSU, so the buckeyes are in trouble. Purdue lost again, be it without two of their best players, but they are in trouble now. They can not lose anymore home games, and are going to have to win some more on the road then they would have had to a week ago. They need to beat wis or msu on the road if they want to win the big ten IMO. MSU didn't play well against OSU, but they got the win and that is all that matters. I like them to beat Kansas and keep rolling.

Gonzaga beat Tenn, again, this time in OT on the road, ending Tenn win streak at 33, I believe. ND is at 38 now, I think, and should be in tack to set up a big game on the 24th when Uconn comes to town. Arkansas stepped up and got another big win, OK and Texas, wow. They may be the new favorite in the SEC, right now. I still think Tenn will be fine by years end, but they have some holes to fill right now.

Now that bowl season, and college football is done, lets look back quickly. Fl won the national title and because of the year they have they deserved it, I still think USC is the best team in the nation and would beat them, but that doesn't really matter. We will never know. The fact people try to say that USC's bowl win wasn't as good as FL, because USC was basically playing a home game in the rose bowl, I have one question. What is FL playing in Miami? Yeah, basically a home game. But they did show one thing, the big 12 south was so overrated it wasn't even funny. The big 12 offenses were good, but ok, ok state, Texas, Texas tech, and mizzu had great offenses, but they were not half as good as the big 12 defenses made them look. Just look at the bowls. Mizzu needed OT to beat Northwestern, who was the 4th or 5th best team in the "terrible" big ten. Texas tech got beat bad by ole miss, that Fl loss keeps looking better and better the way Ole Miss finished.. but they still lost at home, something no other one loss team did. Texas scored with 16 seconds left to beat OSU 24-21, and OSU is a bad team from the "terrible" big ten. Now we come to OK, who was average 59.9 a game in their last 7, and they score, 14. yeah, 14, FL defense is good, but they are not even the best defense in the nation. That's how bad the big 12 defenses are, they make those offenses look so good. I just love stupid people like Skip Bayles who said yesterday OK is the best college offense he has ever seen, that will ranked as one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. They were not even the best offense this year. Big 12 south was overrated, and really how they played in bowls, I know they were 1-4, but the big ten was underrated. MSU played a lot better then I thought they would against UGA, OSU almost beat the mighty longhorns, yeah PSU got rolled pretty good, but USC is sick, talent wise they are by far the best team in the nation, and you give them time to prepare for a bowl game, no one is beating them. Iowa beat south car, from the mighty SEC, and northwestern lost to Mizzu, from the mighty big 12 in OT. The Big ten wasn't good, but they must have been better then people thought, or just those other teams were not as good, besides USC, it's one or the other.

Anyway, now that college football is done, now we can turn our attention to a real sport, where the best teams are proven by playing each other, college basketball. This is going to be a great year. I'm right, you're wrong.

Divisional playoff picks, and weekend college bball wrap up

Well I went 3-1, damn Colts in OT. But I am a little worried about Phili, like I said in my last NFL post, I would much rather have the Cards come east in the cold and snow and play my G-men then Phili right now. But I have faith, but it should be a good game, anyway, lets get to it. My Monday quick first look NFL playoff picks of the week.

Arz at Car- This is a better match up for the Cards, but I don't know how much warmer it will be in Carolina, this does have a chance to be more of a shoot out and offensive game, which favors the cards. But with the running game and defense of the Panters, and them being at home, I am having a hard time picking against them. So Panters win 24-20

Bal at Tenn- Should be a great defensive hard nose old school playoff football game. I like the home team, but the Ravens D is just playing so good right now, I don't know if I want to pick the Titans. They have a good running game, and their defense is good too, but just for fun, I am taking the Ravens to upset them 17-14

SD at Pitt- Lets hope this time every touchdown the Steelers score counts. I like the way the chargers are playing right now, and I do like LDT, but he is not even close to 100%, if he even plays, Darren is a good backup, but I think the Steelers will be ready to go. They have a sickly good defense and a good enough offense to win, Pit win 21-14

Phili at NYG- So the big one, well for me at least. If the Giants win this game, they will win the super bowl, I am just saying that now. The eagles are playing very well right now, and has really turned it around, since beating my Giants in the Meadow lands. But now it is time for some payback. The Giants will be rested and ready to go, and ready to defend home field. There are some that say the Eagles look a little like the Giants of last year, and can come from no where to make that super bowl run, but I still see too many holes. Jacobs and Ward run the ball, and then run some more, sets up play action, Hixon gets a long TD catch, and the Giants win 21-17

In other news, UNC lost last night to BC, at home. It is somewhat surprising they lost at home, but I have been saying this entire year, even though they are sick, and no question are the favorites to win it all, and still are. It is too hard to go undefeated for an entire year in college basketball. I also said they would not lose a big game that they were up for, it would be a conference game that they may over look, like a Maryland or someone like that.... well, your welcome, BC would fall in that line. The polls will be a lot different today, since Uconn lost as well, as did OK. Speaking of polls, I quickly wrote down the polls last week, the Monday before conference season starts, because I am looking forward to seeing how much it changes to the poll right before the big dance, and then I will look at it again, after, when the final poll is out. Just another thing to do, to see how teams records and rankings are different before conference season, before the big dance, and after the season.

Tonight in your nightly big east top 25 match up, ND looks to rebound from a big upset loss to st. john's when they play G-town at home, should be a good one. Both teams are coming off of losses, so I look for it to be a very good game, I will give the edge to ND, since they are at home, and Pitt showed everyone G-town's problem on Saturday, their starting 5 is very good, but they have no bench, and they can be worn down. Pitt should be the new number one with Duke 2, and Wake 3.

In the big ten, it is going to be a great race, I am glad I live where I do, and we get the big ten network, so I was able to watch at least a part of every big ten team's opener. MSU has a advantage right now because they are 2-0 with both wins coming on the road. Be it Min, who was undefeated, and Northwestern. Ill gets a big win at Purdue then losses to Uofm, Michigan losses to Wisconsin in their first game at home, OSU losses to Min, and now goes on the road to MSU on Tuesday. Besides IU, who is so bad, if they win one game in conference it will be a surprise, and Iowa, who only beat IU by 5 at home, PSU and Northwestern are much improved and are not easy wins, and then MSU, Purdue, Wis, Ill, Min, Uofm, and OSU, if they can rebound with Lightly being hurt, will all be tough teams and there are no easy wins. You have to win at home, and steal a few wins away from home to have a chance at wining the big ten title this year. This is a very good basketball conference this year, and it will be fun to watch. Not as good as the big east, and not as good as the ACC, at the top, but better overall then the ACC, and very very deep. PAC ten also have started off a little wired with ASU loosing, zona being 0-2, they are in big trouble already for not making the big dance, they are going to need some big wins, and USC lost in OT. Besides UCLA and ASU, who both will be fine, I don't know who else will get in, right now, from the PAC 10, we shall see.

Basketball conference season is here, NFL playoffs are in full swing, and the Pistons finally won a game on Sunday, 7 overall people, they are starting to play a little better, and the cavs and Celtics both lost too, what a great day. I'm right, you're wrong.

Why girls under 21 are fun

Real quick, this has nothing to do with sports, but I think it is a funny story, so I am going to share. Last night for new years, I went out with my very soon to be wife, and two of my former roommates who were both in town, and then another buddy of ours. The guys not having anyone my wonderful wife to be made it her job to try to find them girls. My one buddy in particular, we will call him Phil, because that's his name. So we all went on the dance floor and Stephanie would keep going up to random girls and playing the "my friend is from out of town and doesn't know anyone, he's really cute, but really shy" card, and it worked well, Phil danced with a few different girls, and whatever, the night was going ok. Then she found this group of like 3 or 4 girls and they all started to dance with him, now since I am a guy and use to doing this the first thing I notice when I am at this bar, because it is 18 and up, not 21 and up, is does the girl have a X on her hand. Since the X means under 21. Well these girls happened to have that much dreaded, or great, X depending on your views and goals for the evening. So right away, I was upset, come on Steph you know better, girls with a X will mean a few things
1) they are stupid, and annoying
2) they want you to buy them drinks, not because they like you, and want to hang out all night with you.. but because they can't buy them for themselves.

So Phil being the pushover that he is, brought this girl a drink. She then went to the bathroom to puke. I wish I could tell you that is where the story stops, but that would be untrue. So we stay around that area that we were at on the dance floor, and the girl came back after awhile, now at about 2:35am or so, me and my beautiful bride left ( I was actually very proud of her she lasted that long, she doesn't drink much anymore.) So what happened while we were gone, well Phil must have looked down his pants and found a set, because enough things happened for him to go home with her. Now a few things you need to remember, she just threw up, and she is 19, he is 25. So they went back to her place, and I guess my boy made me proud and hit that, the rumor, even in the butt, though that can not be confirmed or denied. He then pulled out and blew it on her tits. He then called my other ex roommate who picked him up, For some reason he had her shoes and took them with him, I wish I could tell you why, but I have no idea. When he left today, he didn't take them, so my other old roommates threw them outside in a big pile of snow. Now a few things to take from this story:

1) If you want to get some, you can, as long as you don't care by who
2) Girls under 21 at a 18 and over club are the easiest girls in the world to hit on, because the first line of " can I buy you a drink." has a 99% chance of her saying yes
3) Don't be shy, if you are a guy and you want to dance with a girl, or you think a girl is cute, grow a pare and do it, there is nothing worse then sitting alone that night wondering what would have happened. It is better to try and get shot down, then you know you can move on to the next one
4) My wife, very soon to be, is really funny when she is drinking, and is a really really good "wing women" I love how she goes up to random girls and gets them to dance with one of my best friends... kind of like I would do, only she is better looking.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun new year, and 2009 is a great year for all of you. I'm right, you're wrong
