Top ten best/worst sports moments/stories of 2009

It's that time of year again, when you think of 2009 what will YOU think of. Not what you need someone to remind you of, or read up on, but what will you remember.

Best:

1) MSU final four run- It did end just short, we will get there, but the run MSU made in the big dance was great, and at the right time and right place for the state of Michigan, beaing USC, Kansas, Louisville and UCONN in a row is a great run, even if they did get waxed by the Champs

2) the Super Bowl- A few plays I will always think of, the pick 6 before the half, Larry's long TD catch, and me actually thinking the Cards might win the Superbowl, and then of course the game winning catch that you have seen 1,569 times this year.

3) UNC basketball champs- I think of them high because even though I was cheering hard for MSU that was a great team, with a great college, note college, player on it, one of the all time best, not the best, but one, and they came back to win it, and they did. I love this about college sports.

4) CMU-MSU- For me this was big, it was great not just because we beat MSU in football at their place, after reading MSU fans on chat rooms all week saying how they are going to kill us 42-0 and no CMU player would start for MSU, but then it's a great game, we go for two and the win, don't get it, a laughing text from my best friend and MSU grad follows, then we get the onside kick, get to FG range, miss the first, offsides called... our kicker says he saw the flag and knew the first kick was just practice.. I don't really believe him, but that's ok, because, he then makes the second kick and CMU beats MSU in football.. again, we did it in 1991 and 1992 as well. Just a great game, and as always, it's great to be a Chippewa.

5) Roger- I am not a big tennis guy, but I actually enjoy watching him in major finals. They are just good sporting events

6) Yanks are back- After many years, and many many many millions of dollars the Yanks win again. Will this get everyone off of A-rod's back? well maybe until spring training starts again. But I guess when your payroll is over 75 million more then the next highest team, you should win right?

7) Fl does it again- Tebow started the year with another national title, and was undefeated all the way to the SEC title game this year.

8) Lakers take back the title- Kobe wins one as the alpha dog, he got his 4th to go with Shaq... and then Shaq goes to the Cavs.. umm, I am sure that isn't related at all. This may have been higher.. you tell me.

9) Pens-Wings-This again was not something I liked, since I was rooting for the Wings, big time, but give the Pens all the credit in the world, got down, fought back and won game 7 on the road to win the cup, you got to give it to them. I hope we can have round 3 this year, but the Wings need to get healthy and actually start playing good hockey first.

10) PSU VB- Yeah I went there. Maybe this is just because it happened like a week ago, but I remember it now. Down 2-0, for the first time in like 3 years, PSU rallied back to beat Texas 3 games in a row and win another national title, their 3rd in a row. Again, it was a great sports moment. If you just like sports, you should have watched it, and you would have appreciated it.

I am sure I am forgetting some, so let me know your list.

Worst:

1) Tiger- I just am really tired hearing about it. Can that story go away.

2) Air McNair-Gone too soon, so sad.

3) C Henery-another one that just happened, gone way too soon, it seemed like he was starting to get his life back in order.

4) Farve- It is rare that he gets pushed down this low, another year of is he retired or not, comes back and makes the pro bowl, yeah.. god I can't stand him.

5) Pistons era done- I have to have one personally one per list, at least, and this is mine this list, it was a great run of conference finals but it ended with a playoff appearance so short, 1st round sweep, I don't even think Tiger Woods had time to cheat on it. (sorry, that wasn't funny)

6) the Lions- I am not a lions fan but are they not the worst sports story of the year, because they are just so bad, they follow a 0-16 season up with what looks to be a 2-14, great job guys.. and the fans who celebrate one win like they won the super bowl, well actually we can't say that, because the Lions have never been to the super bowl, so we can't say

7) Giants-Panthers- I will once again use the personal and just happened rule to add something that happened 2 days ago. The Giants are coming off a great win at the Skins, they looked great, I know Wash sucks, but still, and then in their last home game at Giants stadium with LT and other Giant greats on hand, they lay a egg and lose 41-9 and get eliminated from any chance of the playoffs.. yeah that was a bad day for me.

8) Serena- I think saying you are going to kill a line judge falls in the category of a bad sports moment or story.

9) AL Central play in game- I will admit this is another personally one for me, and truthfully for me, it is way higher then 9 as far as worst sports moments of the year. The Tigers were up 3 games with 4 to play, only to choke to a one game playoff, played in Minn, and a extra inning game, which as far as just a baseball game goes was great, but for Tigers fans it was gut wrenching to watch, where both teams had great chances to win, the Twins finally did. Only good thing about this, I didn't have to get my hopes up and have the Tigers get killed in the postseason. It did take a lot out of me, I didn't watch one game start to finish in the playoffs, and didn't see one pitch of the world series.

10) Jimmy Johnson- Why is he here, nothing that he did. But the AP named him athlete of the year, which would be great, if he was a athlete.. so I am taking it out on him.

I am sure there are tons I left off, let me hear your best and worst sports moments or stories from 2009. Happy new year to all, and a great 2010 to you. I'm right you're wrong.

Things were going well....until

I had a great Birthday, dec 22, it started with the Giants playing the best half I have seen in the NFL in a long time, sure the Skins suck, but long TD drive, 3 and out, long TD drive, 3 and out, Long FG drive, 3 and out, Long TD drive, one 1st down, missed fake FG, half.. is damn good. Then Yesterday happened. The Giants come out and lay a egg in the last game at Giants Stadium and get killed by the Panthers, who had nothing to play for 41-9. Then the Cowboys won and the Giants, despite starting the year 5-0 will not make the playoffs this year. Now, I can not tell you how sad this makes me, and how much it ruined my day yesterday, but I do always try to be positive, since life is too short not to, so at least this way they will not get my hopes up, only to get killed in the playoffs, get a better draft pick, and they were playing without a few starters. The WR question really has been answered, as Hicks is going to be a stud and Steve Smith is a great possession receiver. Jacobs didn't have a good year, and that is cause for concerned, but with a improved passing game that will only help him, and he and Bradshaw are still a very good 1-2 punch. I have to think that this team will be back in the playoffs next year, but that is a long way away, so I will not worry about that right now.

The Pistons got RIP, TA TA, and Gordon back yesterday but still lost to the Raptors for their 7th loss in a row. After being down 19 at halftime, they did a nice job coming back and making a game out of it, and had some chances to win, having Big Ben in at the end when teams are just going to foul him and then him going 2-8 from the line, doesn't really help. However, my expectations for them are low, just make the playoffs, and in the east, I see no reason why they can't get use to having their guys back now and make the playoffs.

Meyer was done, now he is just taking some time off. I hope things work out for him, and there is nothing to wrong with his health. You coach at FL, you are loaded with athletes, relax. It's the coach at Louis-Monroe who plays him that should be the worried one.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish everyone a happy new year, tomorrow I will be doing my top ten best and worst sports stories/moments of the year. Note: I know the decade is also over and a lot of people will be doing stuff like that, but I don't have time, my two year old, my wife, and my job keep me busy enough. I'm right, you're wrong.

A sad day

I was very sad to hear the passing of Chris Henry who passed away early this morning. He had his share of problems in the past but for afar it looked like maybe he had turned a corner and was doing a lot better. Just a sad story. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family, the saddest part is he leaves behind 3 children. RIP Chris.

Changing topics, Tiger Woods was named AP athlete of the decade. Now if you think of a athlete as someone who participates in sports, and if you think of golf as a sport then you should have no problem with Woods being named Athlete of the decade. However I do not consider golf a sport, I consider it a recreational activity, something that you do with friends for fun on a nice summer day, having a couple of cold ones, enjoying yourself. I don't think of things like speed, endurance, power, strength, jumping ability, those are the things I think of when I hear the word Athlete. What Lance Armstrong did was amazing, now he has endurance, and some speed, and to also run marathons he is clearly a great athlete. Phelps won 14 gold medals in the decade and 22 golds at the world championships, he is a a great athlete. Anyone can play golf, sure they can't play it as well as Tiger, and of course he is good at what he does, and golf is very hard to be good at, but it isn't hard to play. Could Tiger play any other sport? maybe, maybe not, but calling him athlete of the decade makes me sick, because I don't even consider him an athlete. Using my definition, someone who is strong, quick, powerful, can jump, run far and fast, how can he be on the list, also how can Jimmy Johnson, who drives a damn car around a track in a circle for a few hours gets one vote, but Tim Duncan, the greatest power forward of all time, who won 3 titles in the decade, or Kobe, who won 4 titles in the decade not get one vote. Then Albert P who won the NL triple crown for the decade plus one title and got to another one only got one vote. Really one vote. Albert got the same amount of votes as a NASCAR driver... really? I give up. I wouldn't even mind as much if Roger Federer would have won. He dominated his sport more then Tiger, 15 grand slams, to Tiger's 12, and he made 21 grand slam finals overall, and has been in 17 of the last 18, and was number one for a record 237 weeks ( about 4 and a half years) He is someone with endurance and get eye hand coordination and power as well. To be fair, you need to do seperate ones for team sport and individual athletes. I would put Phelps one, Lance two, Roger 3, Tiger Four, then for team sports put Albert one, Duncan 2, kobe 3, and Brady 4.

Coach Jones has left CMU and will be the new head coach at Cinci. I wish him well, and would like to thank him for what he did for my school here at CMU. He took over a program that had success but he kept that success going and added even more success. He won 2 MAC titles in 3 years, got to 3 bowl games, beat 2 big ten teams, and we are currently ranked 25th in the nation sitting at 11-2. I do not know him personally but did get a chance to know his wife Barb, and oldest son Alex, since I coached Alex on his 7th grade basketball team, we went undefeated at 10-0, just wanted to throw that out there, and they could not be better people, so I wish the entire Jones family well and I now will be quietly rooting for Cinci in the next few years. CMU has named Associate head coach and defensive end coach Steve Stripling the interim head coach though the bowl game. I am happy with that choice just on the things I have read about him, and I have faith that the team will be ready for the bowl game and will beat Troy. I also have all the faith in Mr Heeke, our AD that who ever he hires as our next head coach will be the right man for the job. I'm right, you're wrong.

Next Man In?

Last night it was reported by many many sources that CMU head coach Butch Jones, is now ex CMU coach, and new Head Coach at Cincinnati. Nothing have been confrimed by CMU offically now, but there is a press conference tonight. Once things are offical I will then give my thoughts. I'm right, you're wrong

Tuesday Top ten (dec 15 )

Another Tuesday, lets do another Tuesday Top Ten, the year is almost over and a top ten best and worst sports moments/stories are coming but today, lets do the top ten bowl match ups this year. ( I will not put in CMU-Troy since I know no one cares about that bowl game besides me and other CMU fans)

1) Texas-Bama- It has to be number one because it is for the national title, plus you have the whole Heisman winner going against a Heisman finalist and, and Colt came back to win a national title, and now he is one game away. The mighty SEC against the big 12, who will win. Pick: Texas 28 Bama 24

2) WVU-FSU- I have this game this high because of Bowden's last game, I am intrested to see what happenes. Pick FSU 28 WVU 17

3) da U-Wisconsin- This game to me could be a great one. You have Wisconsin who has a great record, but truthfully no really good wins, who is a power team who runs the ball and plays good defense, then you got the U, athletic, quick, strong, fast, and earier this year, they looked to be BCS bound. Well even though they had some tough losses, I still like this to be a very good game. Pick: Da U 24 Wis 17

4) TCU-BSU- I wish these teams got to show what they were made up against BCS team, but oh well. This should be a great game, but now that Boise doesn't get to play a bowl game at home, can they win. Pick: TCU 35 BSU 21

5) UGA Tech-Iowa- This game is interesting to me for a few reasons, one it is also interesting to see how big ten teams play in bowl games, since lets be honest the last few years have not been good and they have taking a hit as a conference overall. Some feel, Adam Tate for one, that the big ten has some good bowl match ups this year, besides MSU, who is playing Texas Tech, the worst match up for them, a team that throws the ball, so we will see how the big ten does this year. The other reason is UGA Tech's offense, lets see what happens when a team has a full month to do nothing but prepare for the triple option. Should be a good game. Pick: UGA Tech 24 Iowa 21

6) Fl-Cinci- Why this game is on the list? cause I can't wait to watch Fl put up 60 points on Cinci's defense. They can't stop anyone, now they play a Fl team that just laid a big time egg in the SEC title game, aka BCS championship semi final, and it will be Tim Tebow's last game. I don't like Fl and I don't like Tebow, but I also have no love lost for Cinci. Will Jeff Quinn be able to do it again, and step in once BK leavs and coach a team to a bowl win like he did for CMU 3 years ago. The bad news for Jeff, he isn't coaching a more talented CMU team against Middle Tenn State at Ford Field, which is like a home game for CMU, he is coaching Cinci against the defending national champs in a game in SEC country, good luck Jeff. Pick: Fl 56 Cinci 31

7) OSU-Oregon- Not to upset my friend Adam Tate, because he is a good guy, but I worry about his OSU team in this one. There will be a lot of pressure on them to actually win a big game, and it is a great chance for them to make a statment, and say to the world, "hey we don't suck." Well Oregon doesn't either. the big ten needs this win bad, but I'm sorry, I don't see it. I hope I'm wrong. Pick: Oregon 31 OSU 21

8) Nebraska-Zona- Two very good defenses, this might not be a high scoring game, but that doesn't mean it will not be exciting. Pick Nebraska 14 Zona 10

9) Air Force-Houston- Why you ask? Air Force runs a lot, Houston's D doesn't stop the run, Houston throws a lot, and puts up big numbers against anyone, then you got the fact that Houston is a little upset about how they played in their conference title game, and you have what I think will be a good game to watch. but I have been wrong before. The biggest problem if Houston gets on them early, Air Force does not throw well enough to get back in the game, they just run so much.. of course if they can run a lot, keep the ball and Houston's offense off the field, maybe, they have a chance, but I don't see it. Pick: Houston 38 Air Force 24

10) Clemson-Kentucky- I don't think you can go wrong here. Two good teams, with good fan bases who usually travel well, especially to this bowl. I have been to both places and the people were very very nice, so I like both teams and wish them well. CJ Spiller is always worth tuning in for, and each team didn't have as successful season as they would have hoped and want to end it on a better note. Clemson lost a tough one in the ACC title game, and any bowl for them, like the big ten is a chance to make a statement about the conference as a whole, especially against the SEC, who the national media swings from their nuts on a daily basis. Basically the second or third best ACC team needs to beat the 5th or 6th best SEC team for anyone to take them seriously. Should be a great Sunday night match up on December 27. Pick: Clemson 28 Kentucky 21

Let me know what you think will be the best bowls. I'm right, you're wrong.

good day, bad night

Yesterday was great and bad for me. CMU Basketball had a big win over South Florida on the road. Now it is true that South Fl was without their leading scorer, and they are not a great big east, or they are one of the worst, right their with Depaul. So that was great, and hopefully the guys, now at 4-5 and keep the momentum going. It was also bad for me though because the Giants lost to Phi despite putting up 38 points. If you would have told me before the game that the Giants would score 38 points I would be so happy cause I thought it would be a big easy win. But nope, not the case. Fumble recovering for a TD, a punt return for a TD, just too many mistakes. Eli slide feet first please, so you don't hit the ground and fumble, that would be great. The defense has some injuries but they need to stop any offense better then that. Now Phil will win the division and the Giants need to win a wild card if they want to make the playoffs. With 3 games remaining they have to beat the skins and Panthers and then lets hope the Viks have the 2nd seed clinched, and can't catch the Saints, and the Viks rest their guys, and the Giants in a must win, and they win out and go 10-6 and win a wild card. That is my dream, that is my hope, and I will have faith.

The Pistons and Wings are both playing better. Pistons have won 5 in a row, and RIP even came back, so that was nice to see. I keep telling people, they will make the playoffs, and I stand by my 6 seed pick, as of now. Wings will get some guys back and make the playoffs, and then they can beat anyone.

Congrats to MSU for not having any football player arrested over the weekend, way to go guys.

Congrats to Mark Ingram for winning the Heisman, even though Suh should have won, since he was the best college football player, but oh well. Congrats to Mark, who did go to Flint Southwestern, so SVL love.

Another good weekend of College Basketball, again John Wall is still sick, and NBA/NHL and of course the NFL. GVSU almost won another D2 national title but couldn't get it done, after being down big early.

CMU has a lot of unrest going on right now since Coach Jones has come up in many different schools search for a new coach. With Marshall being the school that has come up the most. Cinci is also something that has come up. But I don't think that will happen. I just don't think you want to be the guy who keeps following BK to every job he goes to. You do good, it's cause of his players, and if you don't, you are a step down. I really hope he stays, but conference USA is better then the MAC as far as national level, and it is more money, so we shall see. But I really hope he stays, hopefully we will know soon, since at least then we can move on, we have a bowl to get ready for, and a good recruiting class in the works. I'm right, you're wrong.

Good win for the Pistons

Playing the 76ers in Phili the Pistons got a must win. It was a good game and good win. They just need to try to stay a float until they get healthy, they have had a lot of injury problems, but it is nice to get them out of the way early, hopefully. We can get RIP and Tay back, Gordon get back, Charlie V can get back to 100% and start, so we don't have to start Chuckie Atkins and Jason M, with Jonas, I mean wow, good thing we still won. I really think as long as they stay around 500 we will be making the playoffs, which is all I want for this team this year, just make the playoffs, give yourself a chance, be it not a good one, but still a chance.

The Wins gave up a goal in the first 3 minutes of the game last night to the Blues and despite having lots of good chances and 42 shots on Ty Coklin, their backup last year, they lost 1-0. They need to get some people back too, but as long as they make the playoffs they will be ok, I really believe this.

UCONN-Ken was a good game last night at MSG. Ken is really playing well. I know they have a great recruiting class, and Patrick Paterson, with coach Cal, but I have been surprised how well they have played so soon in the year. Beating UNC and UConn in the same week, is very impressive. Oh, and this just in, and you can not say this enough. John Wall is a stud.

Michigan lost big at Utah last night, they are in some trouble. I like Coach B a lot, and I really have faith that they will be ok, but they need some leadership and they need to be able to shoot the ball well or they are not going to do well. Maybe they had a little too much success last year so expectations were raised, before they should have been. They are in need of some big wins if they want to make the big dance right now. Beating Uconn at home would be a great start. I'm right, you're wrong.

Good Bye Granderson and Jackson

The Tigers got ride of their starting 2b, starting CF and their number 2 starter in the last week. The good news, they did resign their starting SS who hits 230, yeah. He does play good defense at least. At first I will admit, I hated this deal, I love Curtis a lot, though he did think last year all of a sudden he was a power hitter, and he stopped hitting doubles, triples and stealing bases, but he still had a decent year, and is a great defender in center, and Comerica has a lot of room to cover. Now sure he can't hit left handers to save his life, but he is still relatively young, turns 29 before the year, and I think he has some good years left. But then, I thought about it, listen to what other people had to say, both good and bad things, and I relaxed a little. First we get back Austin Jackson who is a top CF prospect and was rated as the #27 best prospect in all of baseball. He is athletic, can hit, and a good defender, and very well become a very good center fielder. I don't really like the fact of trading a good center fielder for someone who could become one, but Granderson's contract was back heavy in turns of money, so it clears up a lot of room that way. We also get 3 pitchers back. Max Scherzer is a good young pitcher who gets a lot of strike outs, which is why I like him in fantasy. And being a number 3 pitcher could give him a chance to do well. Plus Cooke is a lefty who should be a upgrade in that lefty bullpen spot, and then you got Daniel Schlereth, the son of ex NFL and ESPN talking head Mark. So we are cutting payroll I guess that is something we need to do, but I was hoping we would just hold on for one more year, because after this year Mags, and his big contract, Bonderman, Robertson, and D-train and their really big, sicking contracts will be gone and then we have some room to move. It looks like we gave it a shot last year, lost in the one game playoff, so we lost the central, after having a 3 game lead with 4 to play, and now we are going to save money so we can resign Verlander next year, which they need to do, and then build around him and Cabera, aka manny jr. I just hope the team can still at least be competitive and we don't go back to a 100 loss season. I have faith that this team can still at least contend in the central, but I think the White Sox will be better, and I don't see how the Indians can't be better, plus the Twins will still be the Twins, and one of these years KC has to do something right? well maybe not, but the other three I worry about.

So after going crazy, being upset, settling down, and relaxing a bit, I am ok with the trade. I just really hope Zumaya gets back healthy because my two Tiger t-shirt jerseys are Granderson and Zumaya, and if Joel never gets back I will need to buy at least one more, if not two. So now that that is over, we can focus on things that happen way before the start of baseball season.

HS Basketball started last night for the boys in Michigan and my Mt Pleasant boys won by 23 over Midland. Not bad as far as first games go, but we will find out much much more about this team Friday against Saginaw Arthur Hill, should be a good game. We got lots of snow, and schools are closed today, and more is on the way, but hopefully that will not affect the Friday games in Michigan.

AI will be playing tonight as the 76ers take on the Pistons that should be fun, the Wings also play tonight, and both of those teams need a win. I'm not going to lie, it hasn't been the easiest time ever to live in Michigan and be a sports fan. I mean I was born in New Jersey, and thus am a Giants fan, but the Tigers and Pistons are my team, and I like the Wings as well as the Devils. Luckily my Alma Mater, CMU is 11-2 and ranked 25th in the nation, and is the best football team in Michigan this year, of course, sadly, that isn't saying much. I'm right, you're wrong.

Top Ten Tuesday (dec 8)

I have not done a Top Ten Tuesday in a long time but I hope to bring it back, so lets do it today. I will be doing my top ten best and worst sports moments of the year again, so I am thinking about those, but today lets go with my top ten favorite NBA players right now:

1) Chris Kaman- I know him, we had some classes together at CMU, so he gets the top spot, none of the other guys on the list, I know personally

2) Shaq- I have always loved him, and still do, it makes it harder that he is on the Cavs now.

3) Sheed- Another guy who makes it harder now that he is on the Celtics, but he is my boy, so I got to be true to him and his crazy ass

4) Josh Smith- I love the dude, for fantasy purposes and the fact that he is so much fun to watch play

5) CP3- See #4, and I did like him since College since he went to Wake as the same time as a buddy of mine who is now playing in Germany.

6) Rudy Gay- See #4, he is a freak, and also I quietly like a lot of UCONN guys

7) Ray Allen- Again it is tough when he went to the Celtics but he has been a favorite ever since his wonderful debut in He Got Game.

8) Austin Daye- It took number 8 for my Piston love to shine though, but it had to make the top ten. I liked Daye a lot in college at Gonzaga, another school that I quietly like, and I wanted the Pistons to pick him, and when they did I was very happy, I would very much like a Austin Daye Piston's jersey for my Birthday, Dec 22 or Christmas.. just throwing it out there.

9) Adam Morrison- He really should be higher, but he barely plays, so I can't put him any higher, but he does need to still be in my top ten due to the huge man crush I had on him while he was in college. It makes me sad to see how little he plays and how bad he has done in the NBA, but if you don't play any defense, you are not that fast, and you really don't have a great shot, you just found ways to score a lot, eventually that will catch up with you. So sad, sorry Adam.

10) Steph Curry- Only a Rookie but I am a fan, loved what I saw from him in college and was lucky enough to be at the Davidson-Wisconsin game in the sweet 16. James Harden and Jennings are the other two who had a chance of getting this spot, but I have liked Curry longer, so he wins out.

Have a great day, we are all waiting for the coaching dominoes to start falling... Just go to ND already BK, we know you are going to. I'm right, you're wrong.

Big win for my G--men, Bowl games, and other weekend stuff

The Giants got a big win yesterday at home against the hated Cowboys. Keeping them one game back in the NFC east, and they have beaten Dallas twice. They are 3-1 in the East with Phil at home and at the skins still to go. I feel good about their playoff chances but I don't feel that great about them making a run in the playoffs. But I still want them to get there, because once you are in, you never know what will happen. It was nice to see Brandon Jacobs actually do something yesterday, I have been waiting all year. He needs to keep doing it. That was a great win to make up for the bad game on Thanksgiving against Denver which ruined my Holiday.

The Steelers lost again, this time to the Raiders.. again I say, the NFL makes zero sense.

The Cards looked good last night, and it is always nice to see the Viks and Farve lose, sorry, I just don't want him, I want him to leave, and not come back, for any reason.

The Bowl match ups are set and there are some good ones, and others that you couldn't pay me to watch. Free Show in Bobby Bowden's last game playing WVU, where Bowden use to coach, is a interesting match up. That could be a good game. Texas and Bama play in the national title game, I like Bama in that game, but of course if for the next 6 weeks everyone says that Bama will win and Texas is going to get killed, then they may just come out and have a really good game. Adam Tate agrees with me, so you know it has to be true, sadly for him he is still mourning the fact that Evan Turner got hurt and will miss 8 weeks. OSU has a tough few games coming up as well. Hopefully for them he can be back the first week of February or so and they can still have a nice tournament run. He was a major player of the year candidate and it is too bad he got hurt, he is a stud. BSU and TCU got jabbed big time having to play each other in a bowl. If the Bama/Texas winner really wants to gain respect they will offer to play the winner of that game the next week and if they win, they will give them the national title. This could happen, just get a field, pay some refs, and sell tickets, I promise a TV station will pick it up. Of course if Cinci beats FL, which they will not, they too could be in this game. But the Gators are going to put up 50 against that defense, and Pike and friends may put up 35 against FL, if that. There are many more good bowl match ups but I have lots of time to talk about that in the next few weeks. I do think it is funny MSU plays Texas Tech without two of their best 3 WR, and without a starting CB, especially considering they already can't stop the pass, good thing they are not playing a team that passes a lot, oh wait, never mind. This lead to this exchange via text with me and my best friend Scott, who is a MSU grad.

Scott: CMU Beats MSU, but at least we still get a Bowl game.
ME: yeah against Tech who throws a lot, they may put up 50
Scott: yeah but then we will set their campus on fire and loot their stores so I bet tech holds a respectful 17 point cushion.

MSU fans everyone.. you got to love them.

CMU got ranked this weekend, they are 25th. They won their 3rd conference title in 4 years, which is great, sadly they just got Troy in the GMAC bowl, because ND pussied out and didn't want to play in a bowl... which is dumb, cause they could use the extra practice time, even if BK isn't there yet to coach them.. I was a little wrong about that, I thought as soon as he wasn't in the national title game he would be there.. so maybe he is meeting with them now, and the announcement will come soon. But I would like to thank Clemson, Houston, and USC loosing to open up those spots for CMU. So thanks to them.

That is all for now, I will be waiting for Chad T to do some serious roasting of this and all of my spelling and grammar mistakes. I must also do some, key word some, work before noon ball and lunch. I'm right, you're wrong.

It was the year

The Big ten finally won a Big Ten/ACC Challenged and I am very happy about that. I really do think the Big Ten is a very good and deep conference. MSU lost at UNC but they will be fine. I was surprised that Minnesota lost to da U, and Michigan lost at home to BC, I thought those two games would go the other way. But I also didn't think Clemson would lose at home to Ill. That was a very big win, but of course the biggest win of the challenged came from Bo Ryan and Wisconsin. Leading John Corwin, who works with me and is a big Wisconsin fan to give us this gem this mourning. "you don't just walk in to the Kohl Center and get a win" well Duke found that out the hard way. OSU also rolled over Free Shoe, leaving another friend in the officer, and a big OSU fan to give us the following " Evan Turner is well on his way to being player of the year." Which was quickly followed by Corwin adding, "clearly you haven't seen Trevon Hughes play. For the record, Turner is averaging 20.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 6'6 assist a game, Hughes is at 16.2, 4.3 and 2.0. Not really the same. But it was a great win for the Big Ten, ILL came back from 24 down on the road at Clemson to get a big 2 point win, that and the Wisconsin game was the two big ones.

Last night was also a very big night for CMU as our woman's basketball team beat #24th ranked and defending national runner up Louisville 84-75. It was a great game, and a big win. A lot of fun, minus the idiot who pulled a fire alarm in the student activity center and thus we had to clear the entire SAC and Rose. That 30 minute delay wasn't fun, but it was a great game, and I am very happy for our girls, and the staff, who do a great job.

Tiger released a statement yesterday finally about his "transgressions" I really don't care to talk about it. But I will add, if your wife is hot, and you are in the public spot lite, you shouldn't cheat. It's just not a good idea, you have to stay with the family and not be going for any new girls, as Chris Rock says, new pussy can't cook. Other then that, I will let EPSN handle all the Tiger talk.. I know they will not let me down, since they will talk about it more then Farve/Clemson and TO put together.

In news that is only important to a few, Noon Ball yesterday went great. The premiere game of one Daniel F Heck went great. He did a wonderful job. He went 2-4 on the day, 1-2 from 3, got a rebound or two, and even though he may play worst defense then the Nets, actually that is mean to the Nets,it was still fun and I hope he keeps playing. Game MVP was Big Hick for sure, he really brought it yesterday and dominated fellow "brash bro" John "jumbo" Corwin. I did a decent job of staying out of the way, which is when I am at my best in Basketball, but I did have a couple lay ups and got a few rebounds so it wasn't that bad of a performance. I'm right, you're wrong.

3rd times not the charm

Tough day for MSU, not only do they find out 8 more football players are suspended due to a fight on November 22, in that group Mark Dell and BJ Cunningham, two of their top 3 WR, and Chris L Rucker one of their starting CB, be it, the worst starting CB in the nation. But then their basketball team lost for the 3rd time in a year to UNC. UNC lost a lot but they still have a lot of talent, and if you shoot 2-20 from the 3 point line on the road against a top 10-15 team you are not going to win. They did battle back a little, but then giving up two offensive rebounds on miss FT's in the final minute just can not happen. I know that drove Coach Izzo crazy. They will be fine though, they go through this tough games in November and December, and once March comes around they are ready and tested. They will at least get to the elite 8.

The Tiger Woods stuff is just crazy, and I don't want to talk about it, ESPN will do that enough for the both of us. Maybe when actually facts are out I will say something about it, but for now, no.

The B10/ACC Challenged is tied at 3, this is the year, the big ten needs to win it this year, they just need to

Now it is time to go to a tradition unlike any other. Noon ball at CMU. Today is a special day as it is the noon ball premier of one Daniel F Heck... it should be fun. Hopefully Rory, AKA B Ho can put on a show, as well as Big hick. It's game time, hopefully I can hit a shot or two, and get a few rebounds and the guy I am guarding doesn't score too much and I can help my team get a win. I'm, right, you're wrong.

Lots and lots to get to

I have been very busy but so many things have happened I have to get caught up.

Charlie is out at ND, which needed to happen. He just didn't win enough to keep his job, no question about that. I predict Cinci to beat Pit on Saturday and Brian Kelley will tell his players that he will stay and this is where he wants to be, and then he will leave the next day and be announced as the ND coach on Monday.

Bobby Bowden has retired, and Jimbo Fisher will take over at free shoe. One guy who is really happy, coach Shannon and da U, they are now the legit number two program in that state, FSU will have some work to do to get back, they are no longer a top program.

Big Ten/ACC challenge started last night with PSU getting a nice road win at Virgina. Those are the big games for the big ten to win, if they want to finally actually win one of these. The big game is tonight with MSU-UNC, and as much as I am cheering for MSU in that game, UNC is still very good, and it should be a great game. I am very much looking forward to watching it, after getting back from the CMU game, they play Chicago State tonight at 7pm.. in a game that will not be covered as much in the national media.. or at all.

Bama-Fl is almost here, this week we will finally get to see those teams play, and as long as Nebraska doesn't somehow beat Texas, which they have about as much chance of doing as Carmen Electra walking in here right now and blowing me, the national title game is set, and the Fl-Bama winner will play Texas when they play the National title in 6 weeks, or when ever it is.

The NFL makes no sense sometimes.. ok, actually the NFL usually doesn't make sense. My Giants are really upsetting me. They are suppose to be built on running the ball and stopping the run and they haven't done either this year. All of a sudden we need to throw the ball 50 times cause we want to show Eli is a elite QB and worth the money they just paid him. I will save you the trouble. He isn't worth the money and not a elite QB.

The Saints and Colts keep looking good and are still undefeated. The Saints are looking almost unstoppable at this point, and the Colts just find ways to win. Or the teams they playing find ways to lose. The Texans were up 14-0, and then 20-3 I believe, and still lost 35-27... wonderful.

Here is the key for college basketball teams in these early season tournaments, you can lose one game, but don't lose two, Michigan and Minnesota I'm looking at you. It is fine to play bad once, just don't do it again the next day.

There is way too many other things going on to talk about right now, so I will stop now and get back to work. I'm right, you're wrong.

A lot to get to

It was a very busy weekend,
MSU showed they were still MSU and get killed in a "big" game against PSU.
Uofm only lost 21-10 to OSU dispite throwing 5 picks and having a fumble in the endzone.
We are in for some fun with BSU, TCU and cinci still all winning.

CMU clinched the MAC west, without even playing, thanks to Ohio beating NIU, making our game friday against NIU meaninless, now it's going to be really hard to get people to come.

UFC was pretty good on Saturday. Griffen and Ortiz had a nice fight, with Forrest winning setting up a 3rd fight between them down the line, and Koscheck got Anothey Johnson to tap out, after a stanged 1st period.

Pit loses to KC and the Bengals lose to Oakland.. wow the NFL is fun

My Giants held on to win in OT over the dirty birds a win they needed bad

Plus lot of college basketball, as well as NBA and NHL. Great sports weekend. I'm right, you're wrong

Two big games

Cal comes out east and the Cuse was ready for them. Just a few days after loosing to a d2 team, Cuse took it too them all night, and beat up on the preseason pac10 favorites. That team may be a much better team that I thought they would be. I still feel Cal will be good, as they were short handed last night but that was a good win for Cuse. In the other game at MSG last night UNC showed they are still very talented despite all the people they lost. OSU didn't shoot the ball well and will be fine, they are a top 3 team in the big ten, which this year means they are a top 15 team nationally, as top to bottom the big ten is the best conference IMO. It was a nice win for OSU. All four teams play again today, with Cal and OSU playing at 5, with Cuse and UNC to follow, should be two good games. I'm right, you're wrong

Nice game

MSU-Gonzaga was a great game last night as MSU held on to win. Gonzaga played like a team that should be ranked and will once again be very good. They lost a lot but with Bolden and Gray, plus the depth they have in the front court they will be solid. MSU got the win and that is all that matters. Roe is getting back from injury and had a tough game, fouling out with no points, but Morgan played well, and Summers stepped up big in the second half. They are so deep, they have any number of guys who can go off depending on the game. The 24hr marathon ended with Kansas and Memphis, the Memphis coach looks 12, he's 31. Kansas is very deep, and I really don't see them not making the final four. It was great to watch games all day, I love college basketball. CMU plays at home against UIC tonight, as the girls are at Illinois, our football team plays at BSU on the road on espn2. I'm right, you're wrong.

What a day

Last night CMU Basketball did get their first win of the year, and they go again tomorrow at home against UIC. Then at midnight last night a 24 hr college basketball marathon was started. I wish I could watch it all like I could have a few years ago, but now that I have a wife, kid and job, I do need to sleep, and can't stay up all night. I do however, get to watch most of the games as today at work, while I am still working, I am watching the games on epsn360, which is great. I caught the second half of the 6am game, and then have seen every one since then at work. I am really looking forward to MSU-Gonzaga tonight at 8pm, I would love to go but since the wife works till 9:45pm, that means I have to get the little one to bed, but the game doesn't start till 8pm, so I look forward to getting her to bed and then watching that game, while drinking the unofficial beer of the Schwanda Sports Blog, Miller Light (I'm still waiting for them to send me stuff...and I bet I will have to keep waiting) There has been some good games already and right now Siena is starting to play better after a slow start to Northeastern, and are down 6 at half. That should be a good second half. Other then that, it's college basketball season, and I can not be happier. Also Michigan High School basketball teams could start practicing yesterday as well. we have some guys on our team that decided not to play as Seniors, which is odd, but it is there choice, I guess, I just think they will regret not playing. I still think it is going to be a great year. The Middle School team that I coach also had a easy win last night, as we are now 4-0, the 8th graders which I coached last night, and may be for a little bit now are also 4-0. Things are good. I'm right, you're wrong.

well that went well

The Giants have a bye week and get to rest up, while Dallas and Phili both lose, that is outstanding, couldn't have gone better, plus I am working on wrapping up a 4-0 fantasy fb week, which is always good. Sadly CMU lost to Princeton in their opener by 3, but are back at it again tonight, so hopefully we will have a nice bounce back. All in all it was a good weekend.

A few college football things to touch on:

-wow USC, wow, Standford takes it took them

-Michigan tried to stay with Wisconsin for a bit, but they were just out maned

-MSU won the only way they can, in a shoot out, their defense doesn't stop anyone.

-OSU won their 5th big ten title in a row, so good for them, I can't stand the fact that they have won it 5 years in a row, but oh well.

-CMU doesn't play till Wednesday vs BSU, on ESPN 2, hopefully it will be just like last Wednesday when we killed Toledo 56-28. We are rolling.

-ND sucks, and Weis has to be gone

other then that, the Pistons lost a close one last night in a back to back facing two former coaches in a row, beat Flip and the Wiz, lost to Rich and the Mavs. They are playing ok, and I still feel good about them being the 6 seed. Got to have faith. The Wings also have bounced back from their slow start, and are actually looking like the team we all thought they would be. I'm right, you're wrong.

Wipe out Wednesday

Last night went really well for my teams. I didn't get to watch the Pistons and Red Wings cause of the CMU Football game but the Pistons won by over 20, and the Wings won 9-1, yes 9-1. CMU took Toledo to the wood shed and won 56-28, it was 56-14, before we took the foot off the pedal. They looked really good, and picked a great time to do it on national tv on epsn 2. We are a legit team this year, of course not on the national scale, but we are better then a lot of teams out there. It was a very good day. It was good that they all won, hopefully this will be a start of a great sports weekend. I'm right, you're wrong.

That was a tough one

The Giants are up 17-14, SD has the ball and Rivers throws a pick, and it gets return to the 4, things are looking good, I'm happy, then a holding call makes it first and goal at the 14. First a WR swing pass, for no yards, then two runs up the middle, and we kick a fg, up 20-14 with just over 2 minutes to go. I have heard a lot of people call to question the move to just run the ball there and waste some time, and then kick the fg, instead of going for a TD and a win, I want a team that isn't afraid to lose, that plays to win, and not to not lose, but I also would relay on your defense with 2 minutes left, and SD only having one timeout to go, and a TD is the only thing that hurts you, that the Defense is going to get a stop. But that isn't what happens, Rivers moves down the field, and doesn't even have to use their one timeout, and after a long pass to Darren Sporles, who should never be one on one with a LB, a long corner route it wide open for the Chargers to score with 21 seconds to go. The game ends on a sac, how you don't block Merriman at all, I have no idea. The loss is the Giants 4th in a row, which really hurts me, especially since the Cowboys have won 4 in a row, which makes it even worse. Going in to the bye week at 5-4, not what you want, or are expecting after starting 5-0. Now it is true that a lot of those team did suck that they beat, but they have already beaten the Cowboys in Dallas, and played the Eagles in phili, so there only road division game left is the skins, so sitting at 2-1 in the division isn't too big of a deal. They just need to use the bye week, rest up, regroup and understand there is a lot of games left in this season. They better do it, because if they don't make the playoffs things will not be good at all. I have faith that they can turn it around, they better.

The Pistons won yesterday in what I called a must win, and I am glad they did. Playing without RIP and Tay is good in a way because you can see what this team will look like for the next few years, Jonas and Daye playing the 3, Gordon at the two, and Stuck and Will as your other guards who play. Charlie V has shown some signs, and I continue to think he will become a very good player for us, he is really sheed without the attitude, I really believe that, he is 6'11, can step out and shoot the 3, and also post and score, and even take guys off the dribble to the rack. I still think the playoffs is where this team will be, and I think a 6 seed is doable.

Michigan is in big trouble, they need to find a way to beat Wisconsin or OSU, and I just don't see it happening. Rich Rod shouldn't get fired yet, but that hot seat is only going to get hotter

ND on the other hand is in even more trouble, and Weis should be gone no question about it. You will hear Brain Kelly's name a lot, and that would be a dream type job for him, that if he is offered it, he will take it in a second. He may be a d bag, but he is a good coach. ND needs to do something.

MSU kicked the crap out of western, which makes me happy.

Oregon comes off a week where they looked as good as any team in the nation last week in their butt kicking of USC to get beat by Stanford, I mean, wow.

Other then that, it wasn't too bad of a sports weekend. I'm right, you're wrong.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Busy weekend

CMU BBall game at home today against IU-South Bend, which better be a big win, PSU-OSU should be a good game, and is very big in the big ten. Both Michigan and Michigan State have must wins games. MSU plays Western, so they should win, Michigan vs Purdue who the hell knows. The Pistons had a tough one against the Magic last night, and they do need to get RIP and Tay back, but again, the season is young, and I am staying positive, lets see how long that last. The Wings play tonight and are honoring Stevie Y who goes in the the hall of fame on Monday, so that should be a nice time, and they better win for him. My Giants have basically a must win vs the Chargers tomorrow, win and you are 6-3 going in to the bye week and you are fine, lose and your 5-4 and a game back and in trouble. Just run the ball, and do some play action. Jacobs it is time, dominate buddy. I'm right, you're wrong.

Really UCF.. really?

UCF is a Adidas school, Marcus Jordan, of course, wants to wear Nike's. So what would happen? How about Marcus wears Jordan shows out on the court in a ex game, Adidas calls UCF to let them now their contract is now over with them, and they own them 250,000 for product for the year. Wow, that sounds like a great idea. How do you let this happen. I wonder how much money Jordan is giving them to let them do this. Because if not, how does it even get to this point, number one, what coach would let him go out like that, it's a team, you wear the team shoe, there is no individual. It shouldn't even get to this. Not to mention UCF was already a Adidas school, in their last year of a 5 year deal, so if it is going to be this much a problem why would Marcus go there, how did that not come up during any recruiting talks. Is it really worth it, Marcus Jordan is a decent player, at best. He isn't even close to his dad, in fact, he isn't even a top 200 players in the nation coming out of high school. Papa Mike must be giving that school a whole lot of money, and now they can be a part of the Jordan brand, but that hurts your entire athletic program, because they don't make good football shoes, for example, or many other things, that now all the other sports in the school will have to use because you let one average freshmen, with a famous last name wear whatever shoe he wants. This is one of the stupidest and oddest sports story in awhile, at least this week. I hope it's worth it UCF, you get the award so far this year for worst college athletic move. I'm right, you're wrong.

Ran out of gas

The short handed Pistons playing in the second night of the back to back down 17 easily could have folded up shop, but they battled back and even took a one point lead with a few minutes left, but just didn't have enough left. They lost but it did show some good signs. They played some good defense and Austin Daye played some good minutes, and Gordon was shooting well, and him, Stuck and Will continue to carry the team on offense. I just like to see this team fight, I really think they will be ok, and will make the playoffs.

So baseball is over, I'm glad it's done. My Grandma will be happy, so that's good, she is a big Yanks fan. Now we can move on to all football and Basketball, with some NHL thrown in. Wings play tonight, hopefully they can get another win, they need to get on a roll. I'm right, you're wrong.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Great night

Both the Wings and Pistons won last night, as the Wings looked much better, winning 2-0, Osgood played very well, which was good to see. Then the Pistons, without RIP and Tay beat the Magic, showing yet again they know how to play them, and get Dwight in foul trouble and make him a non factor, they have done it time and time again, which is why I said last year, and it is still true, if we just play them in the first round we will win, Celtics and the Cavs, not so much. Superman's state line last night, 16 minutes 8 points, 5 rebounds and he fouled out... wonderful. Big Ben can still defend him, with Kwame Brown also doing it sometimes, yeah Kwame Brown, and also Charlie V also had him sometimes. That was a great win for the Pistons, they looked good, play good defense and Will and Stuck played well, and Gordon hit some big shots as well. I know it is still very early in the NBA regular season but after loosing back to back games to the Bucks and Thunder.. you take any win you can get. They have the Raptors tonight, hopefully they can keep it going. I'm right, you're wrong.

Tough weekend

thank god the Wings actually won, and CMU men's and women's team both won big in their ex debut, which is what is suppose to happen. But Saturday was bad, really bad. CMU lost to BC 31-10, Uofm got killed by a bad Ill team, and MSU lost to Minn, plus the Pistons though up 11 at half, were down 11 going in to the 4th, after making Brandon Jennings look like Magic Johnson/Isaiah Thomas and Steve Nash all in one in the 3rd. It was a real tough day. I still believe the Pistons will be ok, they haven't had RIP in their two losses, and they need to get used to playing together. I still think they will be a playoff team, and I will stick with my pick as the 6 seed. It is still very early, so you got to have faith, there is big problems in E Lansing, and AA though, both of their football season are not going well. Also USC got killed by Oregon, the ducks have really responded since their first loss to Boise in week one. Texas also looked great at Ok State, they made a big statement. I would say I will be shocked if the national title game is not Texas vs the Bama-Fl SEC title game winner. I didn't see any football yesterday since I was at the CMU Basketball games, but I was very sad to hear about my G-men. That is 3 losses in a row, I am starting to get a little worried. I'm right, you're wrong.

Big weekend

This is one of those big sports weekends that can only happen in the fall when there is football, baseball, basketball and hockey going all at the same time. Tonight pistons home opener against the team formally known as the sonics, tomorrow you have a big cmu game at 3:30 vs BC, they win, and they will be ranked in the top 25, it is as simple as that. Also my Mt P kids have a playoff game tomorrow at 1pm, I also hear there is a world series of some kind still going on, but I can not confirm that, I really have stopped watching after the tigers were done. I went to the bar last night after the CMU Basketball tip off dinner, and it was on a few tvs, but I didn't really watch any of it, I actually watch way more of UNC-Va tech- which was a very good game, and UNC got a big win, and the spurs-bulls/ den-blazer game, since I love basketball. CMU men's and women's basketball teams also start this weekend on Sunday in EX games, so that will be fun. The Giants also have a big game on Sunday vs the Eagles. It is a big game since they have lost two in a row, and they already have wins vs the skins and cowboys, and if they beat Phili they would be 3-0 in the division with 2 of those wins on the road, so this is a very very big sports weekend. I also would really like the wings to start playing better. They keep digging themselves big holes. They were down 4-0 last night to the Oilers, only to tie the game at 5, and then loose in a shootout.. really guys... come on. Go CMU, Go mt oilers, Go giants, go pistons, go wings... and for my grandma dunning go yanks. I'm right, you're wrong.

one down, 81 to go

Pistons looked good last night in their first game of the year, sure it was the Griz, and sadly the Pistons can't play them all the time, but they did what they had to do, they played well and won by over 20. They have the team formally known as the Sonics on Friday on the home opener, so hopefully that will be a win too. But they need to, they have a few easy wins to start before they play some real teams. But Gordon looked good, and RIP did too, until he tweaked his ankle, but they only dressed 10, and did well, so that is a positive. I hear the Phils beat the yanks last night in game one of the world series, but I didn't see one pitch, so I can not confirm or deny that. I'm right, you're wrong

Yeah Basketball... NBA picks

Basketball is back, the NBA starts tonight, which means it is time for my preseason picks.

East:

1) Boston- I like their moves, and KG will be healthy enough to have a good year, they know their window is closing, and their time is now or never.

2) Cavs- Lebron is still Lebron, but Shaq is not Shaq anymore, plus their biggest problem, defending the pick and roll, just got bigger, and slower

3) Magic- Dwight Howard... that's it, moving on

4) Heat- D Wade, he will be enough, plus a not so tough division

5) Hawks- I still like this team, will they actually get over the hump and win a playoff series, and make a run?

6) Pistons- Maybe a little kool aid being drank by me, but I think they still have enough to make the playoffs in the east, and without the AI distraction they can improve on last year

7) Wizards- here's hoping agent 0 doesn't get hurt, if he does, I like the Raptors to take this spot

8) Bulls- I think they have enough to make the playoffs again, D Rose should be better, and they could even be in that 6-7 range.

Celtics-Bulls- Celtics in 5

Cavs-Wizards- Cavs in 5

Magic-Pistons- ok, so the pistons are always good against the Magic, so why stop now, again, maybe a little kool aid, but Pistons in 6

Heat-Hawks- I like the Heat to get the Hawks back in another great series, Heat in 7

Celtics-Heat- Celtics in 6

Cavs-Pistons- Cavs are too good even for me to pick my pistons, Cavs in 5

Celtics-Cavs- Celtics in 6. Cavs weakness on defense will show, on the pick n roll, and pick and pops, sheed and kg hitting mid range shots to deaf, with shaq not coming out on them.

West:

1) Lakers- really do I need to say anything else

2) Spurs- Man they should be very good as well

3) Jazz- Here is where it gets fun, after the top two, there is about 10 teams you can make a case for, I will pick the Jazz here

4) Horents- CP3 will lead them to the 4 seed

5) Blazers- I think they will still be solid enough to make it to the 4/5 matchup

6) Denver- A small drop off, but they still will be a very good team

7) Mavs- I really don't like them, but they have enough to make the playoffs I think, since the Rockets will not without Yao, and I just don't know about the Suns.

8) Clippers/Griz- yeah I went there, this is my sleeper. The Clippers shouldn't suck, with b diddy, gordon, thorton, camby, kaman, and then griffen once he gets back, and the griz with ai, rugy gay, oj mayo and co, they can score, and I think it is their time to take the next step and make the playoffs. The Suns are too old, the rockets have no Yao, and I feel like taking a chance.

Lakers-Clippers/griz-Lakers in 4

Spurs-Mavs- Spurs in 5

Jazz-Denver- this should be a good one, Jazz find a way, Jazz in 7

Horent-Blazers-This should be a great series. I like the Blazers to win this in 7

Lakers-Blazers- Lakers in 5

Spurs-Jazz- Spurs in 5

Lakers-Spurs- This should be a great series, in my mind their are 4 teams clearly better then the rest in the NBA, and they will all make it to the conference finals. Lakers find a way to win in 7, as the Spurs give it all they have

Finals

Lakers-Celtics- It's what the NBA wants, and they will get it.. Lakers will repeat, and win in 6

MVP: Kobe
Rookie of the Year: James Harden

weekend wrap up

Well good thing my Chippewas keep rolling beating BG 24-10. My Mt Pleasant boys also won big 45-7 to finish the regular season 9-0. Moving on to the playoffs vs North Branch for game one, on Saturday at 1pm at CMU, due to field problems at Mt. Pleasant. Sunday wasn't so good as the Giants for some reason, wanted to throw the ball too much, instead of run Jacobs, and lost to the Cards 24-17 at home. You can't have that, 2 losses in a row, does not make me happy at all. Eli throws 3 picks and looks like me in Madden throwing in to triple coverage. So frustrating. Other things to talk about that happened this weekend:

-PSU killed Michigan, Tate needs to learn Michigan doesn't have nice weather, deal with it kid, it wasn't even that bad, mid 40's and rainy is a nice fall day

-MSU did what only MSU would do, loosing on the last play to Iowa with 2 seconds left, at home. After playing well on defense all day, they made the great choice to play prevent defense the last drive, and watch Iowa drive down the field very easily. MSU played well, but just couldn't make one more play

-Both FL and Bama didn't look too good against Tenn and Miss State respectively. That is going to happen, the winner of the SEC title game will still play Texas for the National title.

-Clemson had a nice win at da U. They played very well and showed a lot wining at the road. Nice win for that program, the ACC is crazy

-The Bears got killed, Cinci is 5-2, WTF. Carson looked like 2004 yesterday

-Saints were down 24-3 and won, and still put up over 40, that is crazy. Mia really gave that one away, they just blew up, plus the Saints are good.

-The Yanks won last night, giving us a Yanks-Phils world series, The Angles really feel apart in the 8th on back to back sac bunts with two errors in a row, to give the Yanks some insurance. I set the over/under of pitches watched by me in this world series at 20.

Tomorrow the NBA season starts, and I will be doing my picks for the year. I'm right, you're wrong.

Baseball still isn't over?

It's news to me, since the Tigers lost I haven't really followed the playoffs at all, but I saw that the Phils are back in the world series, that still wouldn't start for another week, yet the Yanks will close it out today as well, so there will be a long break again. Which will let everyone forget about it again, while they watch football, or get ready for basketball. CMU has added a few nice pieces for their 2010 class. I am very excited about it. But this years team should be good too. I am looking forward to the basketball season starting with actually games. Both college and NBA, and then in mid November High School. I love this time of year. I got to go out golfing on Tuesday and it was very nice. Fall golf in Michigan is one of the nicest things you can do. Other then that, I don't really have anything else to add. I am just working and staying busy, but soon I will do my NBA picks. I'm right, you're wrong.

Styles 3 elite showcase

This weekend in Midland at Northwood University some of the best players in the state of Michigan took part in a elite event to honor the late son of Saginaw highs basketball coach Lou Dawkins. With drill stations and other test in the mourning and games in the afternoon it was a great event for all that took place. And while not everyone who was original going to be there made it, there was still lots and lots of talent. Here are just some of the players that stood out. (in no order)

Tommie McCune- Saginaw High- 2011-6'8- Long, athletic, does have some touch on the shot, though I would still play him to shoot first cause if he is in the lane, you are going to get dunked on.

Alex Gauna-Eaton Rapids-2010-6'8- Was only there on Saturday but this MSU commit played very well. Big strong body, tough kid, who has a nice touch on the mid range shot, has some 3 range, but needs to work on it a little, and get some better foot speed. He is a force down low though and played very well.

Matt Costello- Bay City Western-2012-6'9- Long and thin, needs to get a little stronger, but Matt has all the skills and is a very very good player. He can do it all. Handles and moves well for someone his size.

Evan Bruinsma-West Michigan Christian-2010-6'6-Another long thin player, but EB played tough and he can finish in a crowd. I got to see him a lot as I coached him during a CMU camp this summer, and it was good to see him again, he can do everything well, but doesn't wow you, just a good basketball player.

Dwaun Anderson-Suttons Bay-2011-6'4- He was only there on Sunday, but my god did he put on a show. I lost count of how many big time dunks he had, drive the lane, dunk over people, tip dunks, he even went backdoor on a inbounds play and slamed one home. Showed some range too and defender very well at times. He is going to be a good one. And that is the understatement of the year.

Brandon Crane-Midland High-2010-7'0- I have to give Brandon credit, he has put some work in, and has gotten better. He still has some work to be done of course, but he is doing some nice things. He still needs to get stronger for he is still long long long, and thin, but he has added some and he showed some nice touch. It was nice to work with him a little bit, and I really wish I could work with him more, because he really is a nice young man, who has his head on straight. He is looking at some ivy league and patriot league schools.

Kellon McCormick-ND Prep-2012-6'7- Was only there Sunday as he came with his father, ten year NBA vet Tim, who was the guest speaker in the mourning and did a great job. Kellon does not play like his dad right now. He is a shooter, hit 3 or 4 3s in the one game that I watched him play, and has a nice touch. He is long and I think there is no doubt he isn't done growing yet, he is someone to keep a eye out for in the next few years.

Michael Hundley-Detroit Renaissance-2011-6'9-Hundley is long and lean as well. He may he be skinner then Cane was at this age. He does have some nice skills however, and is another name to keep a eye out for in the next few years. He is long.

Kody Chandler-Schoolcraft-2011-5'11-Just when I have recovered from the butt kicking he gave us this spring the team I was coaching this weekend plays Kody's team the first game and he just flat out goes off. The kid can flat out shoot the basketball, but he is more then just a shooter. He can handle, he can get to the basket, and he moves well without the ball. I personally think he is way underrated, the kid can flat out play IMO.

And many many more. One person I would like to add who came on Sunday was Patrick Lucas-Perry, the 5'10 PG from the class B State champs Flint Powers, who is a top 5 players in the class of 2011 for sure, and best PG, hands down IMO. Even though he hurt his knee in football he came to watch, because he loves basketball that much, and wanted to check it out, he was there with one of his high school and AAU teammates Pierre Brackett, who is a very talented 6'3 wing in his own right in the 2011 class. I had a chance to talk to PLP a little bit and I can't tell you how great of a young man he is. As great as he is on the court, and he is, he is a joy to watch play, I think he is even a better person, and just a joy to talk with. Very humble and respectful and you really couldn't ask for anything more. Maurice Jones also stopped by on Sunday, and it was good to see him and congratulate "Pookie" on his USC commitment. I'm right, you're wrong.

Tough loss

Saturday was one of the best days for me as a sports fan with CMU beating western 34-23 for the 4th straight time, and 5th time in the last 6 years. It was great, and the Chippewas continue to play very well. Then Sunday came and the Giants got killed. It is one thing to lose a game, I knew they were not going to go undefeated and loosing to the Saints on the road is not a bad loss, but they got destroyed, they were not even close. That could become a very big factor come the playoffs, but there is a long way to go before we have to worry about that. Other then that, the weekend was good. College football we had a few things happen, I want to quickly touch on.

-It turned out I was right, Fl had a little let down after the LSU game and needed a late FG to beat Arkansas.

-ND hung around for awhile with USC, and actually made it a close game.

-OSU needs to find a QB who knows how to throw the football

-Michigan should not play Delaware state ever, especially in the middle of the year.. I really wish the NCAA would put in a rule, where d1 teams could only play a non d1 team once every 4 years.. at the most... really.. just stop. I know they had the app state game a few years ago, but come on.. this shouldn't happen

-All in all, CMU won, western lost, msu won and Michigan won, it was a great Saturday in Michigan. I'm right, you're wrong.

Happy day for me

Today is the first day for college basketball programs to start practicing and that makes me very happy, as basketball season is officially here. But this weekend also has some big football games to think about as well.

For me the biggest is the Central-Western game tomorrow at 3:30pm, we have won the last 3 years and 4 of the last 5, so hopefully that can continue in kzoo.

Fl has to be ready for a possible letdown after a big LSU win, and Arkansas can throw and score some points, but FL should win by 3 scores at least.

Bama is going to show how bad South Car is, and easily beat them

USC is going to show how bad ND is, but maybe, just maybe, ND can keep it close

Va Tech going to UGA Tech could be a tough game for them. I think that will be a good game, but Va Tech will win.

Of course the big game nationally is Texas-OK. with Bradford back I really think OK can win, but Texas is playing for much more then OK is, and I think they are going to win.

I am sure there are more, but right now that is all that comes to mind. I got to go get some work done. I'm right, you're wrong

Great weekend

Between my high school kids, my favorite college and favorite pro teams, they won by a combined score of 135-15. CMU finally played like they should against EMU and won 56-8, and the Giants easily beat the Raiders, who suck, 44-7. Now that baseball is over, for me at least, I am all about watching great football games, and also college basketball practice starts this Friday. I am pumped. A few things to talk about this week in college football:

Fl Showed they are the best team in the Nation
besides Fl, bama, and maybe LSU the SEC isn't as good as they use to be
Michigan had 5 Turnovers on the road and still only lost by 2, Iowa may be overrated more then I even thought
Bradford is back and the Texas-Ok game this weekend should be great.

I guess I like the Tigers more then I thought

I normally think of baseball as something to watch during the summer before football and basketball starts. But since I have been watching almost every Tiger game for the last few years, I am definitely taking last night's loss hard. Having a 7 run lead in September you feel good about it, but the Twins go 17-4 in their last 21 and the Tigers play well under 500 to set up a one game play in at the dome. Even though the Tigers could have won on Thursday at home against the Twins, and clinched and not have to worry about any of this, but oh well. There was so many chances in that game, runners on 1st and 3rd one out, don't score, bases loaded one out, don't score, just time and time again. Rayburn dives to try to make a catch that becomes a triple instead of just a single, just over and over again. I just had nothing left. when the game was over, I just feel to the floor, I had nothing left, I got up, drank a beer real quick, did a shot over the phone with my buddy Dan, had another beer, and went to bed. I was a beaten man. I am sure there was a lot of great moments for the Tigers this season, but right now I am having trouble remember any of them. It would have been better if they just lost 10-0 last night, or maybe even lose 100 games and never have a chance. There are a lot of questions moving forward, but those will be answered in time. Now I can just take a few steps back, enjoy the fact that the Tigers were in first for most of the year and played exciting meaningful games in the fall, got us to football, hockey, and basketball is right around the corner, so I guess the Tigers did their job. I am not done being a Tiger fan, and next year I will be back thinking positive that the Tigers can win the division. Rick pitched well, and if we can lock up Jackson, having Verlander, Jackson and Rick is a great start to your rotation. All is not lost, it is just tough right now, and for the next few days. The Wings could help if they beat the Blackhawks tomorrow, and I will feel much better if my Chippewas win on Saturday, the heeling process will begin. If you want to read my tweets during the game, you can check them out on www.twitter.com/sman. I will share the best text I got last night from the many I got from my friends. The award goes to my friend Dan who texted me this gem after Cabera's homer.
"I hope he didn't hit his wife as hard as he hit that."
I laughed for a good long time.. for the record by no means do I condone any violence towards women, so I hope that isn't a problem for him. But way to get hammered and go 0 for 11 in the biggest weekend of the year, way to earn your money Cabera. I'm right, you're wrong.

So worried

Today is the day, at 5pm the Tigers and Twins play in what all Tiger fans hope is the last Twins game played in the dome. We are sending a pitcher to the mound that is only 20 years old, but for the most part had a very good rookie season. The Twins have Scott Baker who has been very good, especially lately and against the Tigers. I am very worried, and nervous but right now I am staying positive. You got to have faith. I plain on tweeting during the game tonight, and then I will post them on here as a running diary. Should be a entertaining day. Go Tigers. I'm right, you're wrong.

College football week 5 wrap up

Another great week of college football, man this time of year is great, here are just a few things on it.

-MSU-Michigan was a great game, MSU came out quick and ready to play, which you knew they had to, but then tried their best to give it away. Tate and Michigan made some plays, but needed to make one more. Great OT rivalry football game

-USC showed us that they are still good, and Cal was way overrated.

- LSU is a little overrated but still very good. UGA played them tough. Big game this week with Fl at LSU, at night... could be a very good one.. Fl watch out

- da U responded nicely with a good win over OK. Sure they are still playing without Bradford but they are still good, and that is a great win. To play free show, uga tech, va tech and OK the first 4 games of the year and survive it 3-1 is very good. They are not all the way back to being where they were, but they are much better. I think they could still win the ACC, Va Tech is also good, but on a neutral site in good weather, I think it would be a very good game.

-CMU had a nice win at Buffalo. 20-13 had some people upset, but a win is a win, especially a road conference game. So I was happy. Now EMU is up for homecoming. Looking forward to another great week. I'm right, you're wrong.

I have to wait more

So after loosing the first two games of the series vs the White Sox and the Twins wining against KC, both teams won today setting up a one game play in game at the dome on Tuesday at 5. It will be the last regular season game at the metro dome and I am hoping it will be the last game ever. It is going to be tough, the Tigers normally don't play well there anyway, and that place will be rocking. I know have to wait two days to find out if the Tigers will win the central, and go to the playoffs, or will their season be done. 162 games not enough to settle it, lets play one more. What more could you want as a sports fan, sure it would have been better for the team and their chances against the Yanks to win on Thursday against the Twins, clinch and then set the rotation and not have to worry about it. But you got to love drama. I just hope they can find a way. Come on Tigers, you can do it. I'm right, you're wrong.

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Really Jim

The Tigers had a chance to clinch the Central today and what did Jim Leyland do, rest Poly, and change the lineup a lot, a lineup that scored 7 runs the day before. But the day game after the night game, so we rest guys. How about clinching today and then resting them for the entire weekend, setting your rotation and bullpen, and not having to worry about it. So they get beat 8-3 today and the lead is 2 with 3 to play. They still are ok, but why worry about it, just clinch and move on. But now I have to worry about it this weekend, when all I wanted to do this weekend was watch football, hockey and relax. Now I have to worry about the Tigers too, Thanks Jim. I'm right, you're wrong.

One more to go

After a big 7-2 win last night the Tigers are now up 3 with 4 games left. They have one more against the Twins today and the way I look at it, it is the biggest game of the year. A win today would mean the tigers would clinch the central and be able to set up their rotation on the proper days rest. They wouldn't even have to worry about the weekend series with the White Sox, and that would be great. I am pumped and ready to go, and will be listening to the game as much as I can, at work.

NHL season also starts today, the Wings play tomorrow, so that should be fun. I am really going to try to follow Hockey more this year, and not just wait for the playoffs, since they are so sweet. I'm right, you're wrong

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Two to go

So yesterday's double header was great baseball. Two great one run games, and each team won one, so the lead is two games, with 5 to go, with 2 more against the Twins. The Tigers can still win those two games and clinch the Central, or it could be tied, or it still could be at 2 games. These are the two biggest games of the year, and pitching for the Tigers, Eddie B, and Nate R, yeah. I feel great, it's like a big hug. I still have faith, and I think they are going to do it. You got to believe

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

So we wait

Last night the Tigers-Twins game was rained out, so now there will be a day/night doubleheader today, starting at noon. It is a big big day, by the time we all go to bed tonight the Tigers could either be 4 games up with 4 to play, and one game away from clinching the division, or they could be in a tie for the division.. of course both teams could win one, and it would still be at two. I am really looking forward to it. Fall as arrived weather wise in Michigan as it is windy, rainy, and a high in the 50's, great fall weather, I love this time of year. I am quickly trying to get some work done before the game starts in over a hour. I will miss the start of it, but should be able to watch by 1pm or so.

In NFL week 3 we had a few surprises to say the least

-Pit lost to the Bengals, making the Bengals one crazy play away from being 3-0 and the Steelers having the same record has the Lions, who finally won, too bad no one saw it within 75 miles because of the blackout, 1-2.

-The Bucks are bad, I think the panthers may also be.

-I was wrong about the:
jets, Bengals, 49ers, Jags, and Texans. The 1st 3 are much better then I thought, and the last two are not as good as I thought they would be.

- The Skins suck

-I still think the titans will be fine.

I'm right, you're wrong

Monday, September 28, 2009

What more could you want

7 games to play, the Tigers have a two game lead in the Central over the Twins, and a 4 games series against the Twins starting today at home. All 7 of their games are at home. What more could you ask for, as a sports fan. Should be a fun and exciting week. They need to hold on, if they lose this at home, they will deserve not making the playoffs, have to come through. Plus the rotation steps up nicely for those last 3 games against the White Sox if they are needed. I am hoping the Tigers just win the first 3 against the Twins and clinch, but that will be very hard to do, and isn't very likely.

A crazy weekend in college football as well. My Chippewas continued to roll, in their first conference game they beat Akron 48-21. They are really playing well right now, and looking good at 3-1.

MSU sets up a must win for them on Saturday at home vs undefeated Michigan, who already has more wins then all of last year. Should be a good game. This is a tough time to get MSU cause they will be jacked for this game, but Michigan is good, but MSU also isn't that bad of a team, I would say they are by far the best one win team in the nation. It is also Michigan's first road game of the year, MSU needs it more, I am saying they are going to win 28-24

Cal gets killed by Oregon, showing how overrated they were

Ole Miss got beat by South Car, showing how overrated they were

PSU lost again to Iowa, this time at home, now Iowa is ranked, but have had some tough games early one, barley beating Northern Iowa in week one if you remember. PSU isn't bad, but they were overrated at 5, they should be in the 10-15 range when it is all said and done.

Free Shoe losses to South FL, man, FSU just can't get anything going this year.

da U losses, bad, to Va Tech on the road. Va Tech is a good football team no question, and so is da U, they are not all the way back yet, but they are getting there, it was only a matter of time before playing FSU, UGA Tech, VA Tech and OK to start the year caught up to them. We will see what they have for the Sooners, since that game will not be easy.

Tebow got JACKED UP.. another example of why with a lead of 3 scores, or more, in the second half, in college football, you should have your stars out.

I like how after 4 weeks in college football, the national champ is really between FL, Texas, and Bama. We will talk about the NFL later. I'm right, you're wrong.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Keep it going

Good win for the Tigers last night, and they needed it as the Twins won again too. The lead stays at 2 and a half. Tonight is another big game, as all 12 of the games left really are. With Rick going tonight, and Justin tomorrow, this is a series against what is basically a minor league team form of the Indians, that we should, and need to, sweep. I'm right, you're wrong.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Wow

So I went 4-11 in my NFL picks this week. ( with tonight to go) The one time I should have gone with the Texans I didn't, what is up with the 49ers, Jets, Bears, Cinci, and Denver, I mean come on. The NFl is crazy. I should have changed my phili-saints pick with out Donavon, but oh well. At least my Giants won. Who saw the Bears win coming. I still am not sold on those teams, but I guess I am done with the Jags, they are bad, and I don't know why I keep thinking they are not going to be. I think the Titans will be ok, and I still think the Pats will be fine. But who knows, this is why the NFL is so much fun, you really don't know.

My Tigers got a much needed win yesterday, the lead is at 3 games.

I hope the Colts win tonight, so at least I can get that game right, but who knows, the way this weekend is going. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL week two picks

OK, so it is late, but here it is. Went 13-3 last week, and I will add my picks with my friend Greg's picks too. Since we have a little thing going back and forth.

Carolina at Atlanta
MORRIS: Last week I went out and said Carolina would win. I was wrong. Plus, I am high on Atlanta this season. Atlanta has the man they call TONY G. He is a force at TE. Plus, Jake Delomme wants to go home. Atlanta wins 35-27.
Schwanda: Yeah you were wrong last week, Delomme played terrible, and Atlanta looked good in their win, and they are playing at home, so it should be a easy win…. NOT SO FAST, I like the Panthers to run the ball, control the game, and get a win, 24-17
Minnesota at Detroit
MORRIS: Detroit proved last week they aren’t ready to stop anyone on defense. I am shocked, I mean, they were so good last year at it. They really needed front line help, didn’t get it, and drafted offense players. Same old Lions. Minnesota has All Day. He couldn’t get Ryan a fantasy victory, but he will get Minnesota a victory. By a lot. Minnesota wins 42-17.
Schwanda: I don’t even want to say anything about this game. Minn wins31-10
Cincinnati at Green Bay
MORRIS: Cincinnati is going to be completely horrible. Drinking the Kool-Aide about Cedric Benson is crazy. He might have started out ok, but he wont be good. ITS CEDRIC FREAKING BENSON. Green Bay is good on defense, offense, special teams, kicking, eating cheese. Green Bay wins 35-24.
Schwanda: But what about the best Fantasy back of all time, according to Ryan, oh, he’s bad too, that’s right, go Pack go, Packers win 28-10… how is cinci scoring 24 points Greg.. come on
Houston at Tennessee
MORRIS: Tennessee proves this week they are a solid team. Houston will give a spirited effort, they will make it close for three quarters, but then Tennessee will win with the rushing efforts of Johnson and the Fat Man. Tennessee wins 24-16.
Schwanda: I was high on the Texans this year, and then they played bad week one, I am not giving up on them yet for the season, but for the game, heck yeah, Tenn wins 21-14
Oakland at Kansas City
MORRIS: Oakland looked pretty impressive against San Diego for three quarters. Kansas City looked pretty impressive against Baltimore for three quarters. Now, the two face off in a four quarter game. They will look impressive for three quarters, but that fourth, that’s the wild card. Oakland wins 19-14.
Schwanda: I feel bad for anyone who has to go to or watch this game on TV. I don’t even want to pick a winner, but just to go against Greg, I will take the home team, KC wins 17-14 in the who gives a crap bowl
New England at NY Jets
MORRIS: Don’t teams learn not to call out the Patriots? Obviously, the Jets didn’t learn the many lessons from the last 5 years. So, NY Jets, here is your education. Tom Brady is going to torch them up one side and down. I liked the Jets to win before they started talking, but now, they will lose. NE wins 31-24.
Schwanda: The Jests are not going to win this game, if they talk, if they don’t talk, It doesn’t matter, they played well last week, but last week is done, I am not buying them, Pats win 28-7
New Orleans at Philadelphia
MORRIS: Drew Brees is really good. Mcnabb broke a rib. NO wins 34-28.
Schwanda: That’s true Greg, but what is also true, Philis D is much better then the Lions, and they are playing at home, the Saints are all offense, and philis D is good enough to slow them down enough, Phili wins 24-21
St. Louis at Washington
MORRIS: Washington should be better than they are. They have a good defense. Decent offensive weapons . But they just cant seem to put it all together. St. Louis didn’t show me much last week against a decent Seahawk team. This game could be bad, but I think the Redskins win because Portis has a good game. Washington wins 21-17.
Schwanda: Skins win because Portis has a good game… Greg the Rams are terrible, the Skins will win this game very easily. Skins win 28-10
Arizona at Jacksonville
MORRIS: Arizona looked lost. Jacksonville lost. ABC has a hit show named Lost. Arizona wins but looks lost doing it, AZ wins 24-14
Schwanda: This is almost a coin flip for me, but I will give it to the Jags for a few reasons, one, Greg picked them to lose, two, they are home, and three, that is what will happen, Jags win 24-21
Tampa Bay at Buffalo
MORRIS: Tampa and Buffalo looked better than expected last week. I think TO is going to derail this team by the time its all said and done, and I think it starts this week. Tampa wins 27-17.
Schwanda: The Bills did look much better then I thought they would, and I don’t like the Bucs this year at all, and at home, I will take the Bills 21-17
Seattle at San Francisco
MORRIS: I have a great feeling about both of these teams. I think the 49ers have a great attitude, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make a run for the NFC West title. They wont win pretty, but they will win. This will be a decent game though. SF wins 21-17.
Schwanda: Nope, not buying it Greg, I don’t think the 49ers will win more then 6 games, and that is being nice. Great first game, this week they take a step back. Seattle will be good, and win that division, unless Warner goes off again. Seattle wins 24-14
Pittsburgh at Chicago
MORRIS: Cutler looked horrendous on Monday night, and I think he is a bad dude. In a bad way. Pitt cant run the ball, they lost the Hawaiian missile. Chicago lost Urlacher. But Pitt is deeper to deal with a loss of a player. This game comes down to the wire. PITT wins 16-10.
Schwanda- Chicago isn’t good. Cutler is a bad fit there, and they will not win more then 6 games this year either. Pitt wins 21-7
Baltimore at San Diego
MORRIS: I don’t trust Norv Turner, but he has a pretty good squad. Baltimore is a great team however, with a load of running backs, a great second year QB, and a solid D. They show San Diego the Ray Lewis dance of victory. BAL wins 24-20.
Schwanda: SD didn’t look good at all last week, but they come home and that should help. I don’t know how solid the Ravens D will be this year, after how many points KC scored on them, but I will chalk that up to one bad game. I do however like SD at home to win 24-21
Cleveland at Denver
MORRIS: Hmm, don’t have a clue. DEN wins 13-9.
Schwanda: I see your don’t have a clue, and raise you a who gives a flying fuck. Denver got lucky to win last week on the road, the Browns return the favor this week, Cleveland wins 14-10
NY Giants at Dallas
MORRIS: Here is how this game is going to go. THE GEEE men come out strong, dominating, showing Dallas how its done. But then, in the second half, Dallas comes roaring back to where a long pass play could tie the game. Romo drops back, throws a Hail Mary, hits the scoreboard, the scoreboard falls, and an earthquake is created. NY wins due to an earthquake. NY wins 24-21.
Schwanda: I would love if that happened, because the Giants would win. I am a little worried about this game, with the first real game at the new stadium, but I have faith, should be a good game, but the Giants will run the ball, control the clock, and Osi and Tuck will be in Tony Homo’s face all day. Giants win 21-10

Today college football was crazy, USC lost to Washington, Free shoe beat all up on BYU at BYU, My Chippewas looked good in their home opener winning 48-0, the starters were out with 8 or 9 minutes left in the first half, so it was good to let some of the young guys play... oh, and Alcorn State is really bad. ND beat MSU, thanks to Kirk Cousins throwing a pick on the ND 10 with 57 seconds left down 3.. wow. The UGA-Arkansas game has been good, lots of throwing yards and TD passes thrown in that one. All in all a great day, besides the fact that the Tigers lost again to the Twins and their lead is down to 2 games now. They will have to earn it if they win the division, they still have 5 games left against the Twins including tomorrow. I'm right, you're wrong.

No, Thank you Mr. Harwell

Tonight in the middle of the 3rd Ernie Harwell came out to thank the fans, thank the Tigers, and everyone else who has made his career and life so special. Starting with the Tigers in 1960 you can't think of the Tigers without thinking about Ernie Harwell. While on September 4th the 91 year old announced he had pancreatic cancer, that is uncurable he still shows the up most respect for the game that has let him see so much, and thanked the fans who's lives he has touched in so many ways, some directly and some indirectly. As always he was a class act, well spoken and humble, but let me just say.... no, thank you Mr. Harwell, thank you for all the memories to all of the Tiger fans. He said he was happy to spend what ever time he has left in the GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN... with all due respect Mr. Harwell, we are the lucky ones, to share a state with you. God bless you, and your family.

To make it better, the Tigers did come back, then hold on, Thank you B Lyon, for a big 4-3 win, to stay 4 and a half ahead of the Twins. All of our games left are against the Central, and really, that is the way it should be.

Sadly, speaking of pancreatic cancer, NCAA Miles Brand died today from it. He was 67. This is sad, since he was planing to step down, but was still the acting president, so he didn't have the time to spend with his family and get the closer he may have wanted, and deserved. A moment of silence will be held before every NCAA football game this weekend in honor of him. He may be best known for being the president at Indiana that fired Bobby Knight, but he also had served as president of the NCAA since 2003. RIP President Brand, my prayers are with your family and friends. I'm right, you're wrong.

week one wrap up

I will do this quick

-I was right on all my picks except 3, Texans, Cinci, and the Cards. So I went 13-3.
- I am not reading to call off my love for the Texans yet, or on saying the Jets will not have a good year, but I am watching close
-I still think the Cards will be fine and the 49ers will not be that good
-Like cinci didn't have enough problems, Sorry Marv
-Not a lot of great games, besides the prime time games. Jags-Colts was close, and cinci-den, but other then that, besides the Thursday night, Sunday night, and both Monday night games, the rest were rather easy wins
-I liked the way my Giants played for the most part, we can't have turnovers though
-The Raiders, and Bills both played much better then I thought and those were much closer games, then I thought they would be. Got to love the NFL, you never know

I am already looking forward to this weekend of football, starting Thursday night with UGA Tech-da U. That game may just be for the ACC title. I like what I have seen from both teams, so far, so that should be a good game. Other college games will also be interesting to watch this weekend, Tenn-FL, Kiffen talked a lot of stuff, and coming off a close lose to ucla, he may really get his this weekend. Also MSU has to rebound against ND, who also is coming off a loss. MSU's next 3 are At ND, at Wisconsin and Michigan at home, we will find out what kind of team they will be.

I will try to keep updating this blog, but due to a new job I just got doing marketing for cmu basketball, I am very busy, especially with my daughter, and still trying to not piss my wife off too much, but I will do what I can. I'm right, you're wrong.

What a weekend

First my Mt p boys win Friday night, killing St John's 49-15, they were up 35-0 after one, and 49-0 at half. Then on Saturday CMU beats MSU 29-27 in a great game, Michigan-ND was a great game that went down to the end, and then OSU and USC always was a close game. It was a great day for college football. Then today the Giants won as well. The Tigers also won today, which was much much needed. I will talk more about the football weekend tomorrow, just wanted to do a quick update now. Two great games

Last night there was two great football games. The Clemson-UGA Tech game turned out to be a great one. UGA Tech was up 24-0, but Clemson came back and eventually took the lead 27-24, before UGA Tech won 30-27, very good game. Then in the NFL the Steelers and Titans both showed great defense, and some decent offense when needed, for a 13-10 OT game. If Ward didn't fumble at the 4, I would have be right no with my score pick of 17-10 Pit, oh well. Today we regroup, there are high school games to go to, I watch the Tigers, who need a win bad, and then tomorrow is the bid day. Go Fire up Chips. I'm right, you're wrong.

Week 1 NFL picks

I don't have much time, so I will just get them in. I did my entire year picks, but I will continue to picks week by week, with a score, so here we go.

Pit over Ten- Should be a good defensive match up, but the champs will win 17-10

ATL over Miami- I am not sold on ATL being as good as there were last year, but the same could be said about Miami, at it is in the UGA Dome, ATL wins 28-17

Ravens over KC- I don’t really need to say anything else do I. Ravens win 17-7

Phil over Panthers- Panthers may be a little better this year, but as much as I don’t like the Eagles, I have to admit, they are good, Phili wins on the road 24-17

Cinci over Denver- I have gone back and forth about this one, but Carson says his 100%, and it is at home, Child please.. Bengals win 21-17

Minn over Browns- Brady Quinn will start, and the Browns will lose, Viks are the better team, they win on the road, 24-10

Texans over Jets- I do think the Texans will be good this year, I am on record saying that, I also have gone on record saying the Jets will not be good, Texans win 28-10

Colts over Jags- Should be a good game, but I give it to the home team, Colts win 28-21

Saints over Lions- Come on, really, Saints at home, too easy, 35-14

Dallas over TB- The Bucks also should not be too good this year, Cowboys win 28-10

Cards over 49ers- can’t win with them, can’t do it. Cards at home, easy win 28-7

NYG over Was- Should be a decent game, but I give it to my G-men at home to take care of business. Giants win 24-14

Seattle over Rams- I also think the Seahawks will be much better this year, starting with a easy win at home over the Rams 28-7

GB over Chi town- I like Aaron Rogers to have a good year, one of my fantasy teams would really like it too, the Pack win at home 24-14

Pats over Bills- Pats at home, on Monday night, and T.O. is already complaining about the offense, great, Pats win 28-10

SD Super Chargers over Oakland- It is at Oakland but that doesn’t matter, the super chargers win easy 35-10
