USA to the final four

It's getting closer, USA will play Finland tomorrow in the semi finals in hockey. They now only have to win one of their next two games to medal. But right now you have to be looking at a rematch with Canada for the gold on Sunday. Canada destroyed Russia 7-3 and look refocused. USA beating them may have been just what they needed. I am really looking forward to that game tomorrow at 3pm.. thank god for watching sports online.

LDT and B Westbook were both released in the last few days. This is one of the sad parts about the NFL, that guys who are still young, who have done so much for their team and the NFL can just be cut just like that. I still think both will play, and play well and help a team, as long as they can live with not being the featured back and getting paid like it.

Last night was a bad night for me basketball wise, both CMU women and men lost, the men after being up 18 with 19 min to go, lost by 2 to NIU, who had lost 10 in a row, and the women lost at home on SR night to Toledo, who is in first place in the MAC west, but they had their chances.. both teams just couldn't' get stops when they needed to. Saturday they both play our big rival western Michigan, women on the road, men at home, and both should win. The guys need to, last regular season home game in Rose, on FSN D, for sr day against western... no other choice but to win, we need to do it. I was very upset last night but I am trying to calm down now. The Pistons made it worse by then loosing to the Clippers. I was happy that my boy Kaman played well, he got the double double that I wanted him to get, but I wanted the Pistons to still win, and they just couldn't put them a way. It's been a frustration winter so far. Thank god my high school boys have won 13 games in a row, or I may have lost it by now.

Just a reminder, you can email me questions at any time, about anything that will be used in my next mail bag. Schwa1sa@cmich.edu...I'm right, you're wrong.

Caveman OF and Ryan F ing Miller

USA beating Canada last night in Hockey 5-3 was great. It was a great game and Ryan Miller played great, but all of this 1980 stuff needs to stop. I know today is the 30Th anv of that so people are going to want to talk about it, but last night isn't even close... actually it is, since both by themselves really don't mean anything. While last night was a great win, it doesn't really matter, unless the US team continues to play well and medals.. maybe even the gold, with the confidence that they are playing with right now. I personally think this will refocus team Canada, who already made the move to bench Martie for R Luongo (sp?), so maybe they are panicking instead of focusing. Anyway, it will be fun to watch this next week to see how team USA responds to people talking about them, and people thinking they can win. Likewise the 1980 win over Russia was great, and still one of the biggest upsets of all time in any sport but if the team didn't go on to beat Findland for the gold a few days later I don't think it would be remembered even close to the same way it is remembered now. Look at all the great upsets that happen in the first round of the NCAA Basketball tournament, they are big for that week, but then we move on. The same thing will happen if team USA losses their next game, and doesn't medal. It was great to beat Canada at their sport, in Canada, but now the real work begins.

The Tigers signed Jonny Damon to a one year 8 million dollar deal and I would know like to play both sides of it, if I may.. thanks:

Good:
It gives the Tigers a left handed bat, who can lead off, or bat second in the line up, which Leyland has said he will start him at, can DH and play a little LF, and is a great veteran leader in the lockeroom, who has rings and knows how to win. Plus it's only a one year deal, so if it doesn't work out, the contract comes off the books when all the other big deals do, with bondo d train, nate, ect, and you can start again.

Bad:
Why let Poly walk, trade Granderson and Jackson, because it looks like you are trying to save money, then pay a 36 year old who is a big defensive liability 8 million dollars, when no one else was offering that much.

I do like the deal though, and I think it will help the Tigers to CONTEND in the Central, if I had to pick right now, I think the White Sox will win the Central, Sadly, god I hope I'm wrong.

UCONN beat WVU tonight because the game was at UCONN, where at home they are a very good team, on the road, they can't beat anyone.. .go figure. They will get in to the tournament for a few reasons.. one, their name, and two they play in the big east. Their biggest problem will be that they can't play those games at home.. sorry.

MSU lost again yesterday as even with the flu Evan Turner showed how good he is. I know John Wall is sick, but if you have a good pg, especially a young one, say the bulls, horents, Minn, Memphis, and of course playoff teams like the Jazz and Celtics, why would you not draft Turner even if you had the first pick. He really is that good, and can do it all.. I am going to laugh when the Clippers take Cousins or Favors over him.. just watch it happen. MSU can still get at least a share of the big ten title if they beat Purdue at Purdue... but I don't see that happening. Really besides beating Wisconsin and Gonzaga at home they do not have any other good wins. Plus they lost to FL, and UNC and Texas, who both have fallen off a lot lately.

I am surprised how bad Michigan has been this year, I mean, wow. I love coach B and hope next year will be better, I think it will, I mean it can't get much worse.

It's getting to be that time of year, where college basketball really takes over... I love it.. also high school basketball, only a few more weeks before playoffs start and my mp boys go for our 5th district title in a row, and hopefully beyond... then AAU starts.. I love it. Just a reminder you can email me questions anytime about anything, and it will appear in my next mail bag. schwa1sa@cmich.edu I'm right, you're wrong.

NBA Trade recap

Now that the NBA Trade deadline has come and gone, I want to quickly look back at it.

First I am very upset that the Pistons didn't make any moves. Joe D has done so much great things for the Pistons and because of that I usually give him a pass on things, but the Billups trade was bad, because if you are going to trade him and blow it up, then do it, and don't re-sign RIP, trade him, and start over. If Joe D loves Stuck so much, then get a young big and build around those two guys. I liked the Ben G and CV signing. Ben is a younger shorter version of RIP, a good scoring 3 guard. CV is a younger and less technical getting version of Sheed. He is 6'10 who can handle and shoot the 3,plus he is 24 and Ben is 27. The problem is, if you sign them, they need to play. Signing Ben G is great, but then you have to trade RIP. If not during the off season, you need to do it now, or why sign Ben G? CV needs to start, RIP needs to be traded, so Stuck, Ben G, Ta Ta, CV and Ben W can start, with Jonas, Will B, Max, and Daye coming off the bench. I would personally would have liked to see a RIP and Ta trade for someone like Bosh, or even my boy CK, but oh well. If Ta Ta can stay healthy he can still help us. RIP can too, but why pay 55 million to a 6th man.

Anyway here is a breakdown of the trades that went down that I want to talk about

-Wash trying to trade anyone they can getting J Howard and Drew Gooden and two other players, and gave up Butler, Haywood and Stevenson. I don't think this trade will really help or hurt the Mavs, they are not going to beat the Lakers, or Denver for that matter, anyway. Wizs just getting that money for 2010. I like the Wizs getting Thortan is a good young player.

-Jamison to the cavs. I don't think this will really help them that much, he can shoot the 3, but he isn't a true post scorer, what they need. Plus Odom can guard him, so even though the Cavs will come out of the East, the Lakers will beat them in the finals in 5.

- I think the Bulls did do some nice things, making the fact that the Pistons did nothing even harder to take. If you can turn T Thomas, who can just jump, and J Salmons into Joe Alexander, H Warrick, AC Law, who I really liked in college, flip Murry, who has proven he can score off the bench and you get a future number one, and flip 2010 picks with the bucks, that's a good move IMO.

-Rockets did the best work by far IMO. They get ride of TMAC, who wasn't playing for them and got Kevin Martin, Hilton Armstrong, Jordan Hill, J Jeffries, plus flip 2011 picks with the knicks, that's good, and a protected 2012 first from the Knicks. Now they did also have to give up Carl Landry who is a good player, and one of the best 6th man in the league, but you give one a 6th man, and a guy you sent home for the picks alone would make it a good deal. Plus Martin who has shown he is good for 20 a game, long arm defender like Armstrong, Hill was the Knicks 1st round pic... this year, plus Jeffries expiring.. great job by them. Knicks are basically really screwed now if they don't sign Lebron and Bosh this summer, since they will not have a first round pick that will be their own till 2013.

-Nate wanted out of New York and he got his wish. He got saved and is going to the Celtics, with Marcus Landry for Eddie House, Bill Walker and JR Giddens. Nate will give them some scoring off the bench and someone who can get to the basket and give them a lift. The Knicks just get ride of Nate, and get House, who will score some for them, and two guys who didn't play for the Celtics. Walker really should have stayed in school more then a year. It's sad when your best basketball was playing with OJ Mayo as a JR in high school.

Time for the second half of the season, hopefully the Pistons can be competitive at least. Lakers over Cavs in 5 in the finals, Lebron wins the MVP, Kobe finals MVP, Jennings rookie of the year, Durant wins the scoring title.. there I saved you all time. I'm right, you're wrong.

1st ever Schwanda Sports Mail Bag

I would love for this to be a every other week thing, or once a month at least. You can email me question, mostly sports, but I will answer any. Email is schwa1sa@cmich.edu

These are real questions from real people:

Why are Tomatoes considered fruits even though they grown on
the ground and are eaten with other vegetables?

- Adam from Columbus

Thanks for the question Adam, I have no idea, so I checked Wikipedia and found out this:

Botanically, a tomato is a fruit: the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant. However, the tomato is not as sweet as most foods eaten as fruit, and is typically served as part of a salad or main course of a meal, rather than at dessert. It is therefore considered a vegetable for most culinary purposes. One exception is that tomatoes are treated as a fruit in home canning practices: they are acidic enough to be processed in a water bath rather than a pressure cooker as "vegetables" require. Tomatoes are not the only foodstuff with this ambiguity: eggplants, cucumbers, and squashes of all kinds (such as zucchini and pumpkins) are all botanically fruits, yet cooked as vegetables.

A lot of people have been talking about the need for an expansion in the NCAA basketball tournament. I personally believe it is fine how it is. What would you do? What do you think would be best for the sport?

Anonymous

I Love the tournament, it is my favorite time of year, but how I would change it is instead of teams from bad conferences that win their conference tournament playing in the play in game, those teams earned their spot, they should be in. Their should be 4 play in games. Those games would have the last 8 teams on the bubble play, and the winners would get the 4 9 seeds in the tournament. That way you get 4 great must watch games to fill out the field, and those teams that are on the bubble can't bitch, because they had a chance. Now sure you would still have more then 8 teams in question, but I think this would be really fun.

If you were a senior in high school this year, and you were being recruited by every college coach in the country. What would be your top three coaches in the whole country to play for be? And why?

Anonymous

That's a great question, for me Coach K would be one, no question about it. He has done so much, and I would know that I would come away from my time their not just a better basketball player, but a better man as well. Second would be Coach Izzo, I think he would also get the best from me, and I think that he does what ever he can to get the most and best out of his players, and to get his players the most attention, even if sometimes it has to be in a questionable way. Third is a tough one, because I have been lucky enough to meet the first two on my list, but number 3 I haven't, I would pick Coach Williams at UNC. His track record speaks for itself, and I think he would do a very good job getting me to play well right away.. since he needs the help right now.

How would you fix college basketball’s problem with one and done’s? Do you think the rule of having to be 19 years old to enter the NBA is fair? And how should it be changed to fix the problem? Is it fair for everyone involved (Player, College, NBA)?

Anonymous

This is simple to me, if you are good enough to play right out of high school and a team wants you, you should be able to go right to the NBA. However, if you do go to college I think you should have to go for at least two years. That way the Lebron's, Durant's and John Wall's of the world can go right to the NBA without having to go to college for a year, where everyone knows they are gone after one year, and they basically only have to go to class for one semester. Once spring semester starts they don't even need to go to class, unless they have a coach with integrity who makes them go to class, that sends the wrong message to everyone. I think that would be the best for everyone. If someone is good enough to play in the NBA and doesn't want to be in college it hurts the NBA if they are not there, it hurts the college if they are but don't really want to be, and really it hurts the player, since if you don't want to be somewhere you can't do your best.

By the way, thanks to Rory for the last 3 Anonymous questions.

I have a two point question for you… One, what do you think about the expansion of the Big Ten in particular Texas? Two, why do you think Mount Pleasant sucks so… so… sooooooo… BAD!!!!???

John from Milwaukee

Well first, Mt Pleasant doesn't suck John, you just have to make the best of it. I also understand you come from a lot of fun places, and great college towns, so maybe you are expecting a little too much. There is 5 or 6 bars within 5 miles of each other, I don't see what's wrong with that, though Mission street is terrible. For your real question, though I do know you think the MTP sucks, I think the big ten does need a 12th team and get a conference title game, however Texas doesn't make sense to me. They are a good school in both of the major sports, football and men's basketball, as well as many other things, and with the BTN they could make much more money if they were in the big ten, but to me, I think it needs to be either Pitt or Mizzu. (assuming ND would never join because they have way too much of a good thing going) Pitt makes sense because you have the PSU rivalry, and they are also good at basketball and football team. Then you can have PSU, Pitt, OSU, Michigan, MSU and Iowa then the other half could have Wis, Minn, ILL, IU, Purdue, and Northwestern. Or you get Mizzu to get the rivalry with ILL and have Mizzu, Ill, Purdue, IU, Iowa, and Northwestern and then still have Mich, MSU, OSU, PSU, Min and Wis. Either one I think will work.

What is your take on the state of the Michigan football and Basketball programs? Do you think Rich Rod will turn it around next year? Do you think Tre Zeigler go to Michigan?

Mike from Ann Arbor

Personally I think Rich Rod will get it turned around if they just let him. He had to change everything and that takes time. I think they will be better this year, and by 2011 they will contend for a big ten title. If they panic and fire him, they will be messed up for a few years since all the players that have been brought in from the last two years would not fit in to a tradition "michigan man" system. As for basketball I really like Coach Beilein and I do think that once they get some length for the 1-3-1 they will be ok. This year has been a step back, which is too bad for them and their fans, but Manny will come back and 2010-2011 will be a better year. As for Trey, we will find out in April, but if I had to pick right now, I think he will go to Michigan, because he can come in and help right away, and stay close to his family.

If you had to estimate a specific total in dollars on how much money you have spent at McDonald's and O'kelly's combined over the last 8 1/2 years what would that dollar amount be? Be as specific as you can, but to make it easier I will let you round to the nearest hundred

Dan from Big Rapids

Dear god. I don't even think I can begin to guess that. Lets put it this way. 5 years of 25 bucks a week, for 52 weeks at McDonald's is 6,500, so if I had to guess, $8,000 at Mcd's. As for O'kelly's, just since I was 21, so 6 and a half years ago, keeping in mind that since November 23, 2007 when my daughter was born I have gone their a lot less, but from December 2004 to November 22, 2007, I would have to guess anywhere from $50-150 a week would be over 15,000. I hope to god that is high, but it may be about right. There were a lot of nights where I had 250-300 bar tabs. Plus even if I get out with 20-30 tab, you do that a few nights a week, for a few years, it adds up. I don't want to think about it, because I think my wife would kill me. But it was a lot of fun, and a lot of great times.

Who are your top 5 Chippewas of all time? (Can be from any sport)

Dan from Big Rapids

Wow, another great question Heck. I don't know if I want to go with my 5 closest friends who are Chippewa athletes, or my 5 favorite to watch, or my 5 best. 5 closest friends- Wynn M, TJ Meerman, Brian Brunner, Bubba Gritter and Todd S. 5 favorite to watch (most also good friends)- JR Wallace, Mike the manchild M, Ike Brown, Dan B, and of course CK. 5 best, only since I have been here, 2001- CK, Dan L, Dan B, Wynn M, and AB. I hope I didn't forget anyone.

If you had the money and opportunity to watch a sporting event in any three sporting venues (past or present) which three would you choose and why?

Dan from Big Rapids

1)Boston Garden any mid 80's game between the Lakers-Celtics in the NBA finals. All that history, and all those great games, I would love to go there.
2)old Yankee Stadium during a world series game- same as the garden, it was between this and Fenway.
3)Gonzaga- I like Gonzaga a lot and I would love to go there for a game. There are lots of places I wish I could go to watch a game, and I have been lucky enough to go to a few, and I hope I can keep going to more.

Who is better Kobe or Lebron?

From Louie Lips

To me it's still Kobe, because he is a better defender and has a post up game, and also is a much better shooter.. Plus Kobe has 4 rings which is 4 more rings then Lebron will ever have. Lebron is sick and most likely will get to become a better shooter, but he still needs a post up game to get over Kobe, IMO.

How and what do you think fat boy needs to do to become not fat? Do you feel that this is a possibilty? Or in your lifetime, corwin will always be a big tuna?

Hallski

He needs to stop drinking, and care enough to work out. I don't think that will happen, because he loves drinking way too much.

What is joseph addai's 2010 season going to look like, and how
much of an impact will he have?
Also what are you're predictions on his carries, yards, and tds?

From Big Hick

I have to say I am torn, because I had Donald Brown in a keeper league, and I drafted him last year, hoping they would spilt last year and then Brown would keep getting more and more carries. However, I thought Addai played really well in the Super Bowl, and still is a better pass catcher out of the backfield and a better blocker. So I think it may be one more good year for Addai, and then by 2011, if there is football, Brown will be the feature back. As for my predictions, last year he had 219 carries for 828 yards and 10 TD. I think next year he will have a few more carries, so I will go with 230 carries, 910 yards and 11 TD.

If you were to be any animal, what would it be and why?

E from Wake via Massachusetts

I would be a dog, so I could just lay around all day and do nothing.

Also, if Marko Spica needed a kidney and you only had one left, would you give your remaining one to him?

E from Wake via Massachusetts

No because if he can live with no heart he could live without a kidney.

There is a fire in rose arena and you are with robbie, bitz and spica, all who have passed out from the smoke. You have the ability to save one, assist in saving another but that person will not be able to play ball ever again, and you have to leave one in the fire. What do you do?!

E from Wake via Massachusetts

Wow, that is great. First I would save Robbie first, and then I would come back in and save Marko, because I don't want him to die because he is way too funny, even though most of the time he isn't trying to be, so even if he couldn't play ball again, no one would really notice and he could still be his fun social self. That is tough because I don't want anything to happen to any of them of course, and Bitz and Robbie are both my boys, but I think Robbie has worked so hard to make himself better that we need him on the team. I think he is a better leader then Bitz, even though they are both great players, and great people.

Thank you for all the questions, please keep them coming, email me questions at any time to be in my next mail bag. schwa1sa@cmich.edu. I'm right, you're wrong.

Catching up

I did get a little in to the Olympics the other day watching USA hockey. They had a nice 3-1 win. Then of course Canada rolled 8-0 in their first game.. they are stacked. I still just don't care about skiing or skating or really anything else.

Purdue had a nice win at OSU by 3 last night. I didn't see the game since we were in Flint Southwest, winning our 12th game in a row, by 18. But from the highlights it should be a good game.

MSU beat IU and now they have a big game on Sunday at home vs OSU. That is a must win for both teams if they want any chance at the big ten.

NBA trade deadline is today at 3pm, so moves have already been made, and I am sure more will be made, I will wait till all the moves are made, then talk about them.

Today will also be the first Schwanda sports mail bag. Any one can email me questions and I will answer them. Please feel free to ask me anything sports related, or anything else you want to... schwa1sa@cmich.edu.....I'm right, you're wrong.

Not catching it

During the Summer Olympics I really got in to it. I love basketball, so that helps, and I like swimming, gymnastics, and the track and field are usually good to. But so far I have not gotten on board for the winter games at all. I just don't care. I don't like skiing, or snow boarding or skating. It does nothing for me. I will watch the hockey, no question about it, but everything else, not going to happen. I would much rather watch college basketball games then watch people go down a snowy hill, sorry, that's just how I fell. So in saying that....

-Kansas had a scare last night at A&M but they were able to hold on, and came away with a nice road win.

-UCONN ladies won their 65th game in a row, all by double digits, as they played much better in the second half, and won by 16, despite being only up two at halftime. Ok had a great crowd on hand for their pink zone game, but UCONN was ready for them.

-UCONN men's team also got a big road win last night in beating Nova. Of course they would go to Nova and win after loosing to Rutgers or St john's or who ever they lost to. That team is so wired. They have bad losses, and great wins. They still have a few more chances to get some good wins and play their way in to the big dance.

-Some big games still to come this week, MSU needs to not look past IU tonight before getting OSU at home on Sunday. OSU has to play Purdue at home tomorrow, before then as well. We should know a lot more about who will be the big ten champ by the end of this week. If OSU can win both of these games I don't see them getting any worse then a share of the title, and they very well could win it outright. If they lose them both, they are basically done. MSU has to beat OSU at home, since they still have to go to Purdue. Such a fun time of year. I'm right, you're wrong.

NBA midseason report

7 games back. If you told me before the year that the Pistons would be 7 games back at the break I would be happy, assuming that you mean they are 7 games out of first place, and thus still in a great spot and are looking good to host a first round playoff series. However, that is not the case, the Pistons are 7 games back..... 7 games back of the 8th seed. I didn't think the Pistons would win the title or anything this year I knew they would not be one of the top 3 teams in the east, but I did think they would be a playoff team, and I predicted them to be the 6th seed, so I am very disapointed so far about this season. Since I am such a glass half full type of person I am still staying positive and really believe that they can still make the playoffs, if they can just keep guys from getting hurt. They also need to trade RIP or Ben G. I would like it to be RIP since he is older, and we just signed Ben as a free agent, but since he is younger it may have to be him. One of them just needs to go. The trade deadline is coming up quick, and something has to be done by the 18th.

Other then that, Durant is doing work, and the Cavs and Lakers will meet in the NBA finals unless a major deal takes place helping the Celtics or Magic. Wow, that was basically it. That didn't take long. Looking forward to all star weekend, begining tonight with the rookie-sophomore game. Sophomore's win by 16. I'm right, you're wrong

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Good night of Basketball.... besides the Pistons of course

The Pistons keep finding new ways to lose, as they lost to the Kings last night. The good news is they will not lose for the next few days since we are now in the all star break. I will do a complete mid season review very soon, but for now, I am looking forward to all star weekend and getting my boy CK's all star jersey.

UNC played hard for awhile last night but they just don't have the talent this year to beat Duke. Duke came in and handled the crowd and got a nice road win. UCONN showed again they can't win on the road at Cuse beat them. Clemson got a home win over FSU. I really thought they would be better this year, but oh well.

I was very happy about the CMU Women's team making a great comeback in the second half after being down 16 to win by 2 over BGSU who was 9-1 in the conference and 19-5 overall. Great win for our girls, who kept fighting and played great, even after a terrible start. NBA mid season report coming soon. I'm right, you're wrong.

Now it gets fun

A week or so ago MSU was in the driver seat for the big ten title. They were undefeated in conference and no other team had less then 3 losses. Then Wisconsin beat them bad in Madison, and Lucas got hurt. They then lose at Ill without him, and then last night back home, even with him back, still not 100% of course Purdue came away with a big win in East Lansing, after MSU cut it to 3 Purdue responded to dominate the end of the game and win by 12. Now the big ten is wide open. MSU and ILL are both 9-3, Purdue and OSU are 8-3, while Wisconsin is also right there at 8-4 Any of those teams can win the big ten now. It should be a very fun few weeks. OSU with Turner back is really playing the best basketball right now, Purdue got some of their bad games out of the way and are also playing well, and ILL has just beat MSU and Wisconsin in back to back games. To me all 5 teams are in the big dance right now, and depending on how they finish I think either Northwestern or Minnesota could still make it 6.

CMU lost another tough one last night to Akron by 4. It was very sad that so many people choose not to go out to the game last night due to the snow. Only 760 fans were there after 3,142 came out on Saturday. The team is playing hard and deserves to have people support them, they just are not use to winning enough big games to make enough big plays when the game is on the line. It really hurts me, but it does feel good to play basketball games that mean something again, it's been a long time. The girls have a big game at home against 19-5 (9-1 in the MAC) Bowling Green tonight, they play much better at home, so I am hoping they find a way to get the job done.

Tenn is a good team against almost everyone in the nation but Vandy apparently. They have a really big game on Saturday against Ken, so maybe they were looking ahead a little too much, but since they already lost to them once, they shouldn't have been. I'm right, you're wrong.

Let it snow... no wait, stop

Winter is back in a big way as much of the country is getting hit with snow. The storm is moving though the Midwest right now, and is heading to the east coast. I heard New York has already closed schools for tomorrow even though it has yet to start snowing there. Well if here is any indication, it's coming, and it's coming in a big white wet way. I normally wouldn't mind this except CMU has a big game tonight against Akron in basketball and I am very worried that the snow will affect how many people come out. I really hope people still man up and go because we need a great crowd. We are coming off a tough loss to Kent State on Saturday that saw our best crowd since Valentines day 2007, but we need to keep it going, but sadly I think the snow will make us take a step back, not another step forward. I just hope the guys can bring their own energy and come away with a win.

Nova got a big win on the road last night at WVU. Nice bounce back after getting taking to the wood sheed by G-town. Texas fought for awhile, but Kansas is to good and to deep and was able to leave Austin with a win.

MSU faces a tough test tonight that could lead to their 3 conference loss in a row. Good news is, it is at home, bad news is, #6 Purdue comes in to town. I am glad CMU plays at 7, so that game can get over and I can watch most of the MSU game, and have a daddy pop or two.

Winter Olympics are starting soon, and I am going to try very hard to really get in to it this year. I get in to the summer games, and I am really going to try to get in to the winter games this year as well. I'm right, you're wrong.

It's back

It has been a long time, but it has come back. Of course I can only be talking about one thing, the Manning Face. Eli had took it from his older brother has Payton has played so well the last few years, and then the Giants won the Superbowl and some feared that the face may be gone forever, but first my Giants self destruct and then, last night, after a pick 6 that he threw as he was leading his team for the game tieing touchdown the Manning face returns. What a wonderful day. Also, congrats to the Saints and their fans and that entire city, that is great for them. It was a good game, so I'm happy for that.

MSU lost again without Lucas at Ill. They have a lot of problem games left with Purdue twice, and OSU, even though it is at home, it will be a tough game. I still think they will find a way to win the big ten, but it will not be easy

Texas-Kansas tonight, Texas really needs a win, they have really been struggling lately, but I don't see them getting it. Nova and WVU also should be a good game tonight as well. It's time to focus just on basketball, and I could not be happier.

BTW, That Tebow commercial last night should have ended like this:

"of course I'm still worried about you, since you can't take a snap under center and don't have a NFL arm."

Oh and if we could please get someone that has released a CD in the last 30 years at next years halftime that would be great, thanks NFL. Actually thanks, since during halftime I didn't have to watch, and was able to do other "stuff".

I'm right, you're wrong.

You don't just walk in to the Kohl Center........

John Corwin, who works at CMU and is a big Wisconsin fan has this famous line, that he first said a couple of months ago while we were talking about MSU and Wisconsin hoops, since we do have a good deal of MSU fans in the office. John put it best, "You don't just walk in to the Kohl center and get a win." Coach Izzo and MSU found that out again last night, and now with Lucas getting hurt they have a hard road ahead. Hopefully his ankle will be ok and he can get back, because they still have to go to ILL, To Purdue, and play Purdue and OSU at home. Plus without Lucas, at IU and at PSU is not gimmes. I still think MSU will be fine, and they will hold on to win the big ten. Don't count out a coach Izzo team.

National signing day is today, in fact I am about to head to the press conference here at CMU at 3. I don't get really crazy about it, like a lot of people do for two reasons: 1) CMU is not covered on a national scale, and I know that is because no one but CMU grads care, so I don't really need to watch EPSN all day and 2) I personally feel that all of the recruiting stuff, as far as rankings and number of stars is very very very, what the hell one more, very overrated. All I have to do is look at Dan L, our qb, who will be drafted and was just the offensive MVP of the SR bowl, and has more TD's then any player in college football history, ever, wasn't a 4 star stud recruit, when he signed no CMU fans were so pumped, thinking, yes, this is the guy who will win ous 3 MAC titles, and get us to 4 bowl games. You can't really rate a recruiting class until 3 years after. That is all that really matters. In saying that, it's still a fun day.

I'm sure there is other things to talk about, but I can't think about it right now, and I'm off to watch the press conference of the 2010 CMU football recruiting class. I'm right, you're wrong.

Good weekend

K-State has officially become one of the toughest places to play in the nation. But Kansas showed why they will, and should, be the number one team in the nation when the polls are released in a little while. That team is built for a national title and has the right mix of vets and young studs, plus a coach with a ring. They will be a very hard out come March/April. K-State isn't a bad team either, especially at home, they made some mistakes, but that was a great game

Ken came back after their first loss to South Car to get a nice win over Vandy, and Tenn beat Fl, that is really all I have to say about the SEC, I am not a fan.

MSU got a nice win over Northwestern, and Chris Allan had a great dunk, if you haven't seen it yet, you should. But their first real test in the conference season comes tomorrow at Wisconsin. If they find a way to win in Madison, they all but clinch the big ten title. They do have some big games coming up though, so it isn't over yet.

Wings lost to the Pens in a shoot out and the Pistons lost a close one to the Magic. Not a good Sunday for sports at all. I watched about 4 plays total of the pro bowl, 3 too many. The Pro bowl is not only the worst of the 4 major sports all star games, it is one of the worst sporting events all year. There is no reason to still have it, the way the game is played now.

Cuse came back to beat Depaul on Saturday, after being down as many as 18. They are a very talented team, and Wes Johnson is one of the best players around, but that game showed me why they are not going to make a deep run in the big dance. When you play a zone all is takes is a team to get hot from 3, and in this day and age of college basketball, with the college line only being 19'9, that is going to happen. I am not going to promise anything, because it depends on match ups, but I don't know if they make it out of the first weekend.... yeah I said it.

UCONN is a very good basketball team, at home.. on the road, they are average at best.

G-town got a very big win on Saturday at home over Duke. They really took it to them. Could Duke be overrated? no, not Duke, that would never happen.

Busy week, looking forward to a lot of things. God I love this time of year. I'm right, you're wrong.
