week 4 NFL recap

So after going 8-5 this week, damn Denver, who saw that coming. That now brings my year total to 39-22, not too bad. So here are some thoughts after 5 weeks.

- The Viks might actually be in trouble. Who knew having a decent qb was important, The Titans are for real, but the Viks need to start winning. With the way the Bears D has been playing, they might actually win that division. There is no great team that is for sure, 3 teams have holes, and then the Lions suck.

-Our first T.O. mini blow up only took 4 weeks, not too bad.

-No one circles the wagon like the Buffalo Bills

-I know why he isn't going to resign, cause he wants to get paid, but Lane, have some pride, they are interviewing coaching candidates, while you are still the coach. Who would want to work for AL Davis?

- Nice that KC got their first win, now we just need the Lions and Rams.. this may take awhile

-I really like the NFL this year, there is really 10 teams or more that have a legit shot at wining it all. This is what the NFL wants, this is why you have a salary cape, there are really only 2 teams who are really bad, 3 or 4 more that are just bad, and then almost everyone else is average. It is fun to watch.

-Other than that, lets see how the colts, pats and my Giants come off the bye week, if the Giants can keep going and if the colts and pats can regroup. 4 games down, for some, 12 to go. I'm right, you're wrong.

The last game

well here we go, the last game for my Tigers this year, and even though they have had a really really bad year, they can win today and make sure the white sox don't make the playoffs, or they lose and finish last in the central behind KC, when they have the 3rd highest payroll in the majors, of course the top two, mets and yanks, didn't make it either... I am seeing a trend... anyway.. here are my recorded thoughts, as they happened, during the game... enjoy.

2:01pm- Game on espn 2 so I don't get to hear any rod allenism like "if your scared get a dog" or calling granderson the "straw that stirs the drink" ten times a game, but it's 2:01 with 1st pitch schedule for 2:05 and the trap is still on the field... I sense a rain delay.
2:04pm- we get to watch espn news on espn 2 for a bit.. yeah, I am excited, I hope it doesn't take too long, I might have to do something to pass the time.
2:30pm- rain delay continues, and we go to 1st and ten, skip and stephen a, that should be entertaining.
3:22pm- still in a rain delay... getting a little bored
4:01pm- still in a rain delay, we are waiting.. by we, I mean me, my daughter is napping and doesn't seem to care.
4:44pm- we receive word first pitch at 5pm, we are 15 minutes away, get pumped
5:09pm- 3 hr and change rain delay, first pitch to granderson, is a strike
5:18pm- sheff gets hit, and steals a base, but is left there, no hits or runs, and it's Freddy time
5:21pm- Lead off walk on 5 pitches. Freddy, not the best start, my friend
5:24pm= two batters, two walks, no outs for mr dye, aka, tiger's killer
5:27pm-Dye rbi single, 1-0 no outs. And we have a interesting thing happen. Chuck Hernedex comes out to talk to Garcia, why is that interesting, cause he got fired yesterday and is no longer our pitching coach, I guess he thought he would come back for one last game. A classy move by him, to help us out one last time.
5:29pm- Strike out Jim Thome on a 3-2 change up, see chuck knows what he is doing, he calmed him down, maybe we shouldn't of fired him, maybe it was the pitchers, not him, now we need a double play ball, one out, runner on first and second.
5:32pm- Deep fly ball, that was easy enough for Thames to catch it, two outs
5:32pm- Ken Griffy's son takes first pitch and grounds it to manny jr, we go to the second sox up 1-0.
5:33pm- Just announced on the bottom line that Edgar will not be back and we will not pick up his option. That is good news, thank god. It was also said that Inge will be back as the full time 3rd baseman, which is good, cause he is a great defensive third baseman, but now we have two problems, we need a catcher, cause I love Dusty Ryan, but he is no where close to being ready to be a everyday catcher, and will Carlos be back, and play short, or will we just play Ramon at short everyday, yeah, another position of need, besides our starting pitchers and bull pen.
5:36pm- Thames shockingly strikes out on 3 pitches.... ( No tigers fan is surprised)
5:39pm- We got 1-2-3, we move to the bottom of the 2nd, still down 1-0
5:47pm- Quick 1-2-3 inning, helped a lot by Inge, diving basically in to the stands for a foul ball and making the catch, showing why he needs to play 3rd every day, cause even though he hits 210, and strikes out almost as much as Marcus Thames, he can play defense, one thing Thames btw, can't do. but I move on
5:57pm- Granderson walk and stolen base, but a sheff strike outs ends that, go to bottom of the 3rd, 1-0 sox still
6:01pm- Quick 1-2-3 inning for Freddy, he is settled in and looking good, helped out by two fly outs to Thames, and he actually had to move on one of them, so that is impressive.
6:08pm- Mags singles, Manny jr, flys out, Thames switches it up, and instead of striking out hits in to the 4, 6, 3 inning ended double play... ( blog note: can you tell I am not a fan of Marcus Thames, am I too hard on him, no, of course I'm not.)
6:20pm- Two hit single by Ken Griffy's son, no harm done, we go to the 5th. Freddy still looks good.
6:38pm-Long inning to tie the game. Rayburn singles, Inge double to score him, then we have runners on the corners with no outs, and get some strike outs and let a big chance get away, but we tied it, 1-1 going to the bottom of the 5th, we got ourselves a game folks.
6:44pm- Quick 1-2-3 inning, I think it was like 7 pitches or something, we going top of the 6th, tied at 1.
6:55pm- During the 6th, my fiance looks at me, and ask, who are we cheering for, I die a little inside, even though I know she is joking.
6:55pm- I then tell her the Tigers, the team that is hitting, not pitching... she then asks, am I going to write that down...... guess I did honey.
6:56pm- Dusty Ryan strikes out with a runner on 1st and second, but before that, a double by manny jr, followed by a bunt by Rayburn and a throwing error, scores us a run, we go to the bottom of the 6 up 2-1, and I am feeling good. Come on boys.
6:58pm- As they come back from break they show Floyd going to the dugout and Ozzie clapping and talking to him, and you don't need to be a master at reading lips to tell he said, " good F * cking Job, F8 cking A"..... You have to love Ozzie, I mean he is great.
7:03pm- Garcia is out, with a runner on second, after a walk and stolen base, his shoulder is acting up, so he is being taking out, Galaraga, our ace, is coming in
7:09pm-In a sad note about this rain delay, pushing the game back the WNBA playoff game, the shock vs liberty is now going to start on espn classic, man, I really wanted to watch that, oh well.
7:36pm- we use 4 pitchers in the 6. Galaraga has two wild pitches to score the runner from second, then he goes out, tied 2-2, then seay comes in, walks a guy on purpose to set up the ground ball for a double play, but then walks another guy, so we put the great Gary Glover in, and his first pitch is hit for a grand slam, super, 6-2 white sox.
7:41pm- We get a hit, and get a guy on second, but can't move him, go to the bottom of the 7th, still 6-2, it's not looking good.
7:59pm- Rayburn gets a hit, but strike outs all around for everyone else, bottom 8, still 6-2
8:18pm- We got to the top of the 9th, it is now 8-2. I truthfully don't know what happened, because I am a good father, and I was giving my 10 month old daughter a bath.. also after the grand slam, I never really recovered.
8:22pm- we got quietly and quickly in the 9th 1-2-3. The sox win and play the Twins tomorrow, winner plays the Rays. It is almost a good feeling, that I am down with the Tigers for a while, I need some time to regroup after this season. Having such high expectations and then playing so bad. Thank god basketball is starting soon.I'm right, you're wrong.

week 5 collefe football wrap up

WOW, what a week. I was going to call it upset Saturday, but it started on Thursday, so I can't even do that. So here we go, ten things that caught my eye this week in college football.

10) ECU-Houston- well I guess the ECU bandwagon is now official closed for business. Maybe we found out a few things, they are not that good, it is just WVU and Va Tech are so overrated they just were able to win. Of course now Va Tech is ranked again, after their win in Lincoln, but that too will pass. I like both of those teams to lose a few more times. As for ECU, they can still be 9-3 or something like that and have a nice year, they just are no BYU or Utah.

9) Clemson-Maryland- I understand now why when we went down to play them last year some of their fans told me they wanted us to win so Bowden would be gone. Have you ever seen a team with more talent lose more games that they shouldn't, oh, maybe usc, more on that to come, I mean the Bama loss is looking better and better by the week, more on that to come too, but there is no way Maryland is a better team then Clemson, they have much more talent and should win the ACC. Of course they still could, but this was a bad loss. I have a special place for Clemson after my friends and I were treated so good down there last year, but I guess when you win 70-14, you tend to be in a good mood. I am sure the mood is a little different in Clemson, SC today.

8) MSU-IU- Ringer another near 200, I think he had 198, and a couple more TD's, he has a chance if some of the other guys keep having off games, and of course, if they keep winning, almost entirely because of him, to get some Heisman love. I mean the kid is sick. IU isn't that good, and it could be said, he has yet to really play a great defense, or maybe even a good one, so we will see what happens down the line, but if he puts up these types of numbers vs psu, wis, osu, and uofm, he is going to have to get some love by the voters, and at least be talked about as a dark horse. I also found out due to a friend of mine who's brother plays on the team, that he is a nice guy, not cocky at all, and has a good head on his shoulders, so that is nice to hear. He is a special player. But Hoyer will need to be a factor, throw to Mark Dell please, or teams will put 9 guys in the box all day.

7) PSU-Ill- Only a few of my friends will get this, and I don't know if they will read it, but.... "YOU DON'T BEAT PENN STATE AT HOME AT NIGHT." The white out was in full effect and psu was ready to go. Plus with the way OSU has been playing, and Wisconsin giving up their lead at Uofm, more on that later as well, PSU just might be the new favorites to win the big ten. I don't think they have a great team, but they are good, and very tough to beat at home.

6) BYU in the Top Ten- with their big wins, plus some upset losses by some other top teams, BYU is in the top ten. They just need to run the table, as does Utah and then their game on November 22 becomes a bcs bowl game to the winner. That should happen, and it should be a great game.

5) OK-TCU- Oklahoma is the new number one, and they continue to look good. Plus with their schedule they basically have to beat Texas, and then beat Mizzu in the big 12 title game, and they are in the BCS title game. But with the way college football has been going, that will be easier said then down, since every conference game, especially every road conference game is a great chance for an upset.

4) Uofm-Wisconsin- down 19-0 at halftime Michigan should have been done. But a nice comeback, and they get a big big win. By no means do I think Michigan is a good team, they have a lot of holes and they need a lot of work, but there is still talent there, so I think they will be better then a lot of people think, and they will make a bowl game, but they have a few more losses in them. Once they get some guys for rich rod's system, like the qb coming next year, they will be fine, and right back in the big ten title, nc talk every year, because they are Michigan, and love them or hate them, they are a storied program and they are going to get athletes and top players to come.

3) FL-Ole miss- this maybe should be number one, just because ole miss had lost like 20 some sec games in a row or something, but we come to expect this in college football. We also come to expect that when a top team in any other conference losses a road game to a average or bad team in their conference sec fans tell everyone that shows how bad that team is, but when it happens in the sec is shows how deep the conference is, and how all teams are good, and even our worst team can beat our best, or second best, on any given day. But I am sorry, when a team as bad as ole miss beats you at home, you are either a) not a good football team or b) just looked past them, and played a very very bad game. Those are the only two options, there is no option c) it shows how great the sec is, that even the worst team can beat one of the best on the road. Maybe ole miss is getting better, but there is no way Florida should have lost that game.

2) Bama-UGA- I will admit it, I was wrong, really really wrong. I picked Clemson to beat Bama, I picked them to not cover the next week, I picked Arkansas to beat them, with them looking past, and I picked UGA to beat them. I am sorry. ROLL TIDE. I am on board now. That is a great football team. They came out and killed UGA on the road, at night, during a "black out" game. That is a great win, and I predicted as the game was happening they would move up to 2, and they did, and they should. Now of course they still have some tough games to go. But they look very strong. Deep down I am still worried that their youth will show up and they will lose a game that they shouldn't, but we will see. Maybe some people picked them to win, but I bet no one picked them to dominate the first half like that, up 31-0. I mean give UGA credit for coming back, but they just dug way too deep of a hole. Very nice win, and now we will just all wait for them to lose to a team that they are not suppose to at home, and drop back down to 8 or 9.

1) CMU-Buffalo- If this is your first time reading this, my chippewas are always number one. This was a great game. Buffalo is a much better team then they have been in the past, and being the back to back MAC champs we are going to get every ones best shot each week, and we need to be ready to play, and stop getting off to bad starts. But it was a great game, and a nice win, and thank god that FG hit the post, cause it helped my weekend out a lot. I was lucky enough to watch the game from the sidelines and man, what a experience, I love being that close to the action, the front row is nice, the sidelines is better.

One last thing, non college football related, yesterday I was in sports hell. here is was NFL Sunday, plus the last scheduled day of the reg. season in baseball, and I am spending the day at my fiance's grandparents house, no tv, outside around a bond fire, listening to people talk about stuff I don't care about, or about people I don't care about, it was bad. If it wasn't for the great food, and the food was great, it would have been the worst day of my life. Only the food, and the fact that my Giants had a bye got me though. I love my fiance and I know having a daughter now and growing up there are just sometimes you have to do things and sit though stuff you don't want to do, well yesterday was that game. So to anyone still single and in college, enjoy it while you can.My old favorite saying use to be, if it wasn't for nothing, I would never do anything, sometimes I miss those days.

Also I am very happy that I get one more chance to cheer for the Tigers this year. In fact it is about a half and hour from now. Freddy Garcia goes for the Tigers, and I will be doing a running diary. Should be fun. If the white sox win, they play the Twins tomorrow to see who plays the Rays, if the Tigers win, the sox are done, and the Twins are in. I don't like either team, but I dislike the white sox more, so I am really hoping the Tigers can win, and keep the sox out of the playoffs... I will also do my playoffs pick as soon as they are all set, and I will include what I had in the beginning of the year, and how off I was in the AL, and how close I was in the NL. The Tigers also fired their pitching coach. Now the pitching staff was bad, but I don't know how much of that was Chuck's fault, but I guess he was the one who got the blame this time, so I guess Leyland will be next, if it doesn't turn around. Like I said before, he needs to be either gone, or get an extension, this team needs to know that they guy calling the shots is going to be there, so if they don't listen, and play harder, they will not be. I'm right, you're wrong.

week 4 NFL picks

It's Thursday already, I am pumped. So happy the weekend is almost here. Well though 3 weeks I am 31-17, not too bad. So here we go my week 4 picks.

byes: cots, pats, giants, seahawks, lions and mia.

Arz at NYJ- I like the Cards in this game, we will see if Farve's ankle is ok, but either way I like this game to be entertaining, and high scoring. Cards win 31-27

ATL at Car- The Panters will bounce back from last weeks loss, and Atlanta will come back to eath after their HUGE, lol, win over KC. Panters 24-14

Was at Dal- The Cowboys have more talent and are at home, easy pick, Cowboys win 31-17

GB at TB- in the battle of the Bays, I have to give it to Tampa because they are at home, and I did pick them in my preseason picks. This is the one game I feel the worst about, I would not be shocked if the Packers won, and if I had to put money on a team to win, I would bet the Packers, but I will keep with my preseason pick. Bucks win 21-17 in a close well fought game.

Min at Tenn- Here is another one where I will live and die with my preseason picks. The Titans are playing great right now, and are at all. But the Viks did look a little better last week and they want to get back to 500. So not very smart of me, I will stick with them and pick the Viks to win 17-14

SF at NO- no shockey, no coltson, vs the 49ers no problem. Both defenses need some work, so I think some points will be scored in this game, but the home team will win. Saints win 31-21

Phi at Chi- The bears have lost two close games, but the Engals look good, there is a big question mark with westbook and mcnab, but I think mcnab at least will play and be fine. In a great defensive game, the Engels go to chi town and win 14-10

Buf at STL- Do I really need to say anything. The Rams have been playing terrible, and the Bills have been one of the better surprises in the NFL. Name a score... of course after mia-ne last week strangers things have happened, but I don't think the panic move to start Trent green will work, Bills roll 28-10

Bal at Pit- The Ravens have been playing well, but the Steelers are mad after last week and this is a big divisional game. No Willie Parker makes it tougher but I still like the Steelers at home in a ugly one 14-6

Cle at Cin- The Browns have to win this game right. Though the Bengals did look better last week and played well against my Giants, and they are at home. But if the Browns lose this they are down, having already lost to the Ravens and Steelers they need a divisional win, hell they need any win. They find a way, last year this game was a shoot out, maybe more of the same, but not as much. Browns win 31-28

Den at KC- It is in KC, yeah that will not matter, Denver will roll. I think their defense is even good enough to stop KC's offense, that's how bad their offense is. Denver wins 35-10

Hou at Jags- Jags saved their season last week with that last second fg win at indy, now they come home and keep rolling. Just let A Johnson get at least one td, and 100 yards, thanks. jags win 24-10

SD at Oak- Will this be the game that Lane gets fired after it, going in to their bye week next week. Oh yeah, I like it, going out on no limb at all, Chargers roll and Lane gets fired by Monday, Tuesday at the latest, if Al Davis wants him to go through all the after game presser, and then fire him. Which would be classic Al Davis. Chargers win 28-10

Well lets see how we do, in the first week there are byes in the NFL, and some big teams, who need them, have them.

Let me quickly mention Bucks Kicker Matt Bryant, who's infant son passed away yesterday, as I am sure everyone has heard by now. Having a 10 month old daughter, I can not even Begin to image the pain that he and the rest of his family are going though. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the entire Bryant family, I hope, that he is allowed all the time he needs, football should, and I am sure it is, be the last thing on his mind right now. So sad. Sometimes it is good to remember it is just a game, and that their are more important things. I'm right, you're wrong... sorry I forget it last time DK... Here's to hoping your Mets hold on.

It's Plex for me... but other then that, it's all about the D

The big news today for me is that Plexico has been suspended for 2 weeks, I am not as mad as I was, when I found out, luckily they are counting this week, the bye week, so that he will only miss one game, vs the seahawks. But a few things, one, don't do this to me guys, come on, everything was going great, and two, plex, I love you, I know you were trying to prove a point, but when you get Tuesday off, don't take Monday off too, thanks, I mean, if it isn't too much to ask, I would really appreciate it.

As far as everyone else in this state, there is only one thing to talk about today. Matt Millen must have finally given up his naked pictures of W.C Ford, and because of that, he could finally be fired. He is by far the worst GM in sports history, and has turned the Lions, who hasn't been good since 57, besides their one nfc title game appearance in 91, to the worst franchise in sports. They still would sell out, their fans wanted to cheer for a winner so bad, and now today those people are happy. They are acting like they just won the super bowl, or how they might act if they ever did, since you see they have never even gotten to one, so we don't really know how they would react. Now sure fire Millen is a great first step, he did a bad job, and that is being nice, 31-84 in 8 years in a game that is ruled in a way so purposely make teams even, the NFL wants everyone to go 8-8, and he gets a team 31-84, nice. But it isn't like their problems are over. Sure Lions fans celebrate today, you deserve it, but just know, you will still suck. You will not have a good team for at least 3 years, and that is with a really good GM. There is a lot of work to be done. The biggest one, Ford selling the team, or letting someone who knows football run it. But enjoy the day, it may be the last day you get to be happy for awhile.

Another story that has not gotten as much love as it would have gotten in the state is Todd Jones announced his retirement today. Now say what you want about him, but I liked todd-o, sure he was known for letting two guys on and no outs in a one run game, but more often then not, he got the save, he just made it a little more fun. He had a solid career, he is not great, but he was good. I can only hope he goes in to TV, because when he and Verlander invaded a fsn broadcast a few spring trainings ago it was the most entertaining inning in baseball history. He is just a funny guy, and I appreciate his work for the Tigers, and that he realized he doesn't have it anymore, thanks for walking away when you did, and thanks for all the roller coaster reliever memories you gave us.

One last thing, it was also announced that Jim Leyland will be back next year. I am happy about that, IF, they announce soon that he will get an extension, if they do not, and he is just back for one last year, and everyone knows it, we will have another year next year, just like this one, because the players will toon him out, knowing he will not be there next year, and they will. The players need to know that he is going to be their manager and they need to listen and play better, or they, not him, will be gone. A lot of people said it was time for a change, and I have gone back and forth on it, and I would not be too sad if it happened, but it needs to be done that he is either gone, or gets an extension, so this team knows who will be their manager and can move forward from the worst season in baseball history, when you look at the payroll and the expectations. If you told me this team would be in last place in the central on September 24, you could have gotten me to bet you anything in the world, that you were crazy, and couldn't be more wrong, the only problem is, you would have been right. And if we lose again tonight, to KC, we will fall two games back of them for last place. Thank god for the Yankees big payroll not making the playoffs to make us feel a little better, but the Tigers are number 3, behind them and the Mets, so that isn't much better. Plus the Yankees were just eliminated officially yesterday, and the Tigers are in last place. The Rays and Twins combined don't have the payroll of the Tigers, in fact, you could take both those teams payrolls and double it, and it wouldn't reach the Yankees, and I bet it wouldn't reach the Tigers either, but I would have to check to be sure... Either way, they have been bad, and the BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT in my sports life.

Week 3 NFL recap

Well all 16 games were played this week, and I went 10-6. So my 3 week total would be 31-17. Not too bad at all. My viks pick worked out for me, which was good, and the Saints would have if Martin didn't feel like missing a fg in the final minutes, thanks man. The Browns, Colts, Lions, and of course the Pats really screwed me. The Colts had it, and then just gave it away, so I was really close to going 12-4, but 10-6 isn't too bad. A few things that come to mind when I look at the NFL 3 weeks in:

- The AFC is messed up, I am not sold yet on the Bills, or Ravens, I think the Titans will be heard from, but end up just missing the playoffs. I fully expect, pitt, sd, indy, jags, and the pats still all 5 of them being in the playoffs. Those were the 5 best teams coming in, in my mind, and I still think they will be there in the end, they just have some work to do, since 2 of them are 2-1, one with a really bad loss, and the other 3 are 1-2. But then the last spot is going to come down to the Bills, Titans, Ravens, Texans, and Browns. One of those 5 will get it. I picked the Browns in the beginning of the year, even though I didn't want to, I didn't like them, and told everyone who would listen that going in to the year, that I thought they would have a big drop off, I just didn't like anyone else either, but now, I have changed my mind, and I am going out on a limb. The Ravens D will get them in, and the Bills will just miss it on a tie breaker or something, and will be the first team left out.

-The NFC East is sick- A friend of mine talked to me about this not too long ago and he had a take that the NFC east isn't that good, but merely every other division has at least one really bad team in it, and the east has average teams, but since they are competitive against the rest of the league people just think they are better then they actually are. Well I listened to that, thought it was interesting, but after 3 weeks, I am here to say, I do not agree at all with that. The Cowboys, talent wise are by far the best team in the NFC, so they will again win 12 or 14 games and then lose their first playoff game to keep me happy. The Engals defense is sick, if you don't believe me, ask big Ben and the Settlers, and even after giving up 40 to the cowboys they hold Pit to no TD's only 6 days later. Which also shows you how good the cowboys offense is, and also that the Steelers need to run the ball and control the clock, or they are in trouble. The Skins rebounded from week one and their offense looks better, and they could beat any team in the NFC west easily. Then there is my NY Football Giants. Who didn't look great against the Bengals, but they won, and the Bengals played much better, and much harder. They have had a easy road, but two teams 3-0, and two teams 2-1, that is by far the best division not only in the NFC but in football, and both wild card teams will again come from that division, just write it down, remember it, do something with it.

- Please everyone again, don't hurt yourself getting off the Brett Farve bang wagon, thank you

-How much must it suck to be a football fan in the state of Missouri, thank god for Saturday, since mizzu is good, but man KC and the Rams may be the two worst teams in the NFL in a long long time.

-That is if it wasn't for the Lions. I just love how after their GREAT, ha, 4-0 preseason, people around here were happy, pumped, mad at sports writers and talk show host who only gave them 5 wins. The way this team looks, if they win 5 games it would be the best coaching job in the history of the NFL, I mean they are just bad, I wish i had more money so I could afford Sunday ticket and not be forced to watch their game on FOX every Sunday here in Michigan, thank god for their bye week this week, I can have a nice relaxing Sunday, and not have to watch that, and also not read the following text messages from friends of mine;
" They ruin my Sundays."
" I have given up on this team."
"Man we suck."
"I want to get people to stop buying Lions stuff so Ford sells the team."
"go to fthelions.com to join the fight."
"you got to believe." (during the comeback against the Packers.)
"F *ck." (after the first pick.)
"1,000 to the person who kills Kinta." ( after the second pick.)
and many more, but you get the idea. I still like my idea I had last week, combine the bad teams to form one team that could actually compete.

-My fantasy teams will not win this week, thanks to the colts, pats, giants all having byes, as well as the Lions, Seahawks, and Mi.

-I can't believe the Pats lost by that much. Going in to the game, you would have to call that one of the biggest upsets in the NFL in a long long time. Yeah the Pats didn't have Brady, but they just beat the Jets on the road the week before, and now was coming home to play the Dolphins. They had won 21 reg. season games in a row, during that time, want to guess the Dolphins record, 1-20, yeah that's right, 1-20, and they destroyed them, I mean it wasn't some fluke play at the end, they killed um. I do expect them to come back after the bye week and be ready to go, and like I said, I will stick with it. The Pats will win that division.

- I am stupid, sorry to adaui, jones drew and Forte was benching you because of match ups, to go with Jacobs vs cinci C Johnson, and R Bush, it seemed like a good idea at the time, Bush worked out, but my bad on the others, even though they scored td's for me, they got no yards.. so I am sorry. Please forgive me.

Other then that, Freddie Garcia's second start for the Tigers tonight, so I am pumped, maybe I will do another running timeline. Also I am pumped for a few things coming up, no one cares, but it is my blog, so who asked you, I am writing them down anyway.

sat sep 27- cmu home game vs buffalo- pre tailgate, a little pong or baseball, best drinking game ever, then of course tailgate and the game, go fire up chips
tue sep 30- forgetting sarah marshall comes out- great movie, can't wait
sat oct 4- my buddy greg's wedding
sat oct 11- hc at cmu vs temple, lots of friends back for that game, enough said
sat oct 18- central/western weekend, always a great time, especially when CMU wins, like we have the last two years, and this year we will make it 3 in a row, which is long in that rivalry since the home team almost always wins, in fact western has won once in k/s since the late 70's. I'm right, you're wrong.

college football week 4 recap

The 4th week of college football is over and we are starting to find out a little more about who is good, and who may not be as good as some think, or expected. So, here are the top ten games, moments, or events that stood out to me this week in college football. Not really in any order, besides always my Chippewas get number 1.

10) MSU-ND- Ringer, Ringer, Ringer, I wonder when teams are going to figure out that he will get 35+ carries a game, and you need to stop the run and make Hoyer beat you, since that is a big question mark. If teams keep letting him get over 200 yards and 2 td's a game, MSU has a chance to be good, if they make Hoyer beat them, they are a 7-5 team at best.

9) UGA-ASU- In their first non conference road game west of the Mississippi since 1967, and SEC fans talk about big ten teams not traveling to play anyone, UGA had little trouble. One reason, UGA is good, and another, I am not sure how good ASU is, but hey at least they actually played another BCS school on the road.

8) TEN-FL- Even in Tenn they just couldn't get the job done. The Gators are good, but really their offense did not do a lot in this game, it was defense and a punt return. Tenn is bad, sorry, they just are.

7) BYU-Wyoming- 59-0 to UCLA, and now 44-0 to Wyoming. wow, that defense is doing some work, and their offense is rolling, that's 99-0 in two weeks, that is sick. BYU is a legit team, they are good.

6) ECU-NC State- A few people may have gotten off the ECU bandwagon after a 30-24 OT loss to NC State but they are still a good team, and now with their conference schedule starting up, and only one more non conference game, at Virgina, they have a chance to only have one loss, and still have a very very good year.

5) Toldeo-FSU- The rockets giving Fresno a battle, I mean 55-54 in double ot. Toledo isn't a bad team and it was at Toledo, but that isn't the toughest place to play in the nation, but they can score. I wonder how Fresno's defense will regroup the rest of the year, they may not be at BYU or Utah's level this year.

4) Wake-Free shoe- Wake Forrest just owns Free shoe, flat out owns them, that is really all that needs to be said here.

3) Bama-Arkansas- I know Arkansas lost a lot, so they really are not that good of a team, but I was one who said that Bama would not be that good, and even after the Clemson win they just play too many true freshmen and they will have a let down, and lose a game they shouldn't. Now that may still happen, but I am starting to think, they actually are legit. I don't think they are a top ten team, but they are good.

2) Auburn-LSU- After their defense really didn't give up any points last week, since it was a safety off a holding call, they gave up 26 to LSU. One of three things are true, LSU is better then people think, Auburn isn't as good as people think, or Les Miles can just flat out coach, and no matter who they are playing, and where they are playing, and who they lost from the year before, that guy can get it done. Beating Auburn at Auburn is a good win, LSU will have something to say about who wins the SEC, and who goes to the BCS title game.

1) CMU-Purdue- For the third time in 370 days my chips played Purdue. It was a little more like the second game in the MCB then it was like the first game at Purdue last year, but we didn't get down big and need a big comeback, we just battled, had the lead, gave it back, just a really good back and forth game, scored with about 1:30 or so left, and went for two to go up one ,and got it, which I loved, great call, to show we are here to win the game, we don't want to go to OT. But a long return, and a 46 yard td run, thinking they were going to pass I assume, and Purdue won again 32-25. but we played hard, and I think it was by far the best game we have played this year. And the best game we have played against a BCS school since our 7 point home loss to BC two years ago. We now get 3 home games in a row with Buffalo, who is much improved, then Temple for Homecoming, and then the big game oct 18 vs Western. Hopefully we can defend our home field and keep on winning in the MAC. Those games will not be gimmes, but if we play the way we played Saturday there is no way we can't win our 3rd MAC title in a row.

One last thing. I was thinking about doing a post about the closing of Yankee Stadium but I think all I will say is this. It has a lot of great memories, and a lot of great sporting events, and other historically events took place there, but I am not a Yankee fan, and you know what, it really isn't that big of a deal. The memories will still live on, it doesn't matter where you play the games at, you remember the games, and how you feel about them, more then the place you went to watch it. Having said that, I am glad they won their last game there, it was very fitting. I'm right, you're wrong.

NFL week 3 picks

Ok, so after going 20-11 in the first two weeks, lets do week 3.

Arz at Was- The Cards have been playing good, but the skins looked much better last week, and it is at home. Skins 28-24

KC at ATL- I did pick KC in my preseason picks, but I am changing my mind. A Third sting qb starting on the road, and the falcons coming off a loss, look to bounce back. ATL 21-10

Car at Min- The way the Panters are playing I should change my preseason pick, but I will not. The Viks need to win, and even though I don't really think Gus is the answer, they will find a way to win this game. 17-14 Viks

TB at Chi- The Bears D will give them a chance in every game this year, as long as they don't get a lot of injuries, but I like the Bucks in this game. TB 20-14

Dal at GB- since it is in Green Bay, I had to think about it a little, but the playoffs haven't started yet, so Dallas will still win. Cowboys 28-17

Det at SF- I picked the Lions in my preseason picks and I will stick with them. If they loose this game, Their entire team should be disbanded. Lions 24-14

NO at Den- Denver has been playing well, but I like the Saints to bounce back and win this one. NO 28-24

Cin At NYG- talk about a great start for my Giants. They win a Super Bowl, then they get the Rams and Bengals in back to back weeks, this is great. Giants 35-10

Pit at Phi- The Engals did look good Monday night, but I like the Steelers in this game, to run the ball and control the clock. Pit wins 17-14

STL at SEA- If the Rams win this game. The Seahawks should give up on the year. Seattle wins 28-10

Cle at Bal- The Browns need a win, the Ravens had a really early unplanned bye week, Browns win 21-14

Oak at Buf- The Bills have looked great, the Raiders looked good last week, but that is only cause they were playing the Chiefs. Bills 24-10

Hou at Ten- The Titans have looked great, their D can stop the run and limit Andre Johnson enough for the win. I hope he still gets at least one TD, for my fantasy team. Titans 24-14

Jags at Indy- The Jags need a win in a big big way. They can't win in Indy, so the Jags will go to 0-3. Colts 24-14

Mia at NE- Even with Cassel the Pats should have no problem in games like this. They will be fine. Pats win 21-10

NYJ at SD- The Monday night game should be called the sorry Jets you caught us the wrong week game. The Chargers are 0-2, and have lost by a combined 3 points, they are not happy, and the Jets get them at the wrong time. SD wins 31-17

Garcia Feaver... catch it

Freddy Garcia started for my Tigers last night. Here were my recorded thoughts as I watched the game, enjoy:

8pm- Mario's pre game line- haven't pitched in 15 months, check out the chief next, see where he is in his rehab.... man, I am pumped
8:02pm- June 8, 2007 last start. Rod- when healthy he really knows how to pitch.. thanks for the break down buddy
8:06pm- Granderson quickly strikes out, 1-18 on the road trip, Thames up next.. I wonder if he will strike out too... just don't throw him off speed pitches and he is golden
8:08pm Thames does strike out, then mags grounds out the first pitch he sees, 3 minute inning, 8 pitches.
8:10pm- Garcia's first pitch is a strike, followed by another one.. he is on a roll.
8:11pm- next pitch more of the same, strike out on 3 pitches, Garcia looks great, though one hitter.
8:13pm- 1-2-3 inning, two ground outs, 10 pitches total, nice work.
8:42pm- after a 35 pitch inning in the top, Freddy comes back, and throws 14 pitches, gave up a walk and a hit, but no runs scored. Has a 2-0 lead
8:58pm- 3rd inning, 6 balls and 9 strikes, gave up a single that became a triple due to Marcus Thames, so 1 run was scored, unearned, but got out of the inning with no more trouble, 2-1 Tigers. Quick side note.. Marcus Thames might be the worst Left Fielder of all time, I mean god his defense is just terrible, he should DH, or not play at all.
9:21pm- 4th inning is another 1-2-3 inning for Freddy, stike out, fly out and ground out, still 2-1. He looks good through 4
9:27pm- Manny jr hits a double with Mags on 1st. Manny jr gives Mags the wave sign, to show he should have kept going, and Rod gives us this gem. Rod: " you got to score on that double son, he's having a lot of fun, must be great being 25 and have all that talent." Rod Allen ladies and gentlemen.
9:28pm- Reliever starts to come in, after a meeting on the mound, starter not coming out, reliever, back to the ben, must suck to be him right now.
9:29pm- Sheff gets a IBB, and then the starter leaves, then the reliever, Mendoza gets to come back up, crowd gives him some cheers.
9:36pm- Edgar with a double, 4-1, Rayburn hits a triple 6-1. Still only one out, which was Thames stike out to start the inning. If you were wondering, my daughter went down at 9:15pm, so I could start drinking, my first beer is done, will get number two when this half inning is over.
9:39pm- RBI in field single, 7-1, but my new favorite tiger, our 4th catcher used this year, the great Dusty Ryan. I really do like that kid.
9:42pm- Thames back up, and actually gets a hit, which isn't a home run, 8-1 bases still loaded, 1 out for Mags. They show N Ryan in the stand, a foot up, arms crossed, he looks less then pleased. In fact, he kind of has the " I'm old but I am still a better pitcher then you" look on his face.
9:44pm-Mendonza doesn't get a out, 3 singles, triple and two walks, no outs, he is done, I need another beer, before Mags at bat
9:47pm- All individual things now, we show the Mags chase for a batting title each time he is up, 324 now, just misses a grand slam foul.
9:49pm- Ground ball right at the short stop, takes a bad bounce, so instead of a double play ball that gets out of the inning, it clears the bases, Mags at 1st, still one out, and now it is 11-1 Tigers.
9:51pm- Single by Manny Jr, Sheff flys out for the second out of the inning, after 11 in a row reached. I wonder if edger can keep this going.
9:53pm- 53 total pitches, 9 runs in the inning, edger shockingly, ha, stuck out.
9:57pm- Matt Joyce comes in for a defensive replacement for Thames.. my exact words at the time.. " There is a god."
9:58pm- Move works right away, as Joyce claims the way to make a catch that wasn't great, but was way better then Thames can do in his dreams. Garcia still looks good, after the long break, quick 1-2-3 inning.
10:06pm- Dusty Ryan with a double, Rayburn scores 12-1, one out in the top of the 6th
10:12pm-Mags RBI single, 13-1 as Ryan scores.
10:14pm- Manny Jr with a 3 run shot, 16-1 Tigers. Good to see the offense clicking when they have been mathematically out of it for awhile.
10:21pm- Garcia leaves the game with a 16-1 lead. 5 strong innings, 59 pitches, 36 for strikes, 2 hits, one run, non eared, 1 walk, and 3 k's. Very nice work, he is a stud. AL CY young folks. Really, he did look good, we shall see, he should get at least one more start this year, so lets hope he will be fine, and we can actually have a pitcher who is good. Of course after he leaves, former starter Nate Robertson comes in and gives up 3 runs in 2.2 innings, but it's ok, we still won 17-4. I went to bed after Garcia was out though cause, we had the big lead, and the women got home, and well, I wanted to get some. NFL picks in a little bit. I'm right, you're wrong

NFL Week 2 recap

well after going 11-5 in the first week, I fell off to 9-6 this week. Still not too bad, but lets look at some more things in detail. In no order what so ever:

- The Jags are killing me. I thought they would have a great year, spilt with the Colts lose one or two more games tops and be a really strong team. So far they have not looked it, and unlike some other teams, they really don't have any built in excuses, they are just not playing well. I still think they can turn it around, and I still think they will find a way to make the playoffs, but they need to play better, and they need to start now.

-The Chargers are killing me worse. Here is a team that I really liked going in to the year, in fact after Brady's injury I think I picked them to go to the Super Bowl. Sure they got screwed over last week, but they still had chances to stop them on 3rd and 4th and goal, plus the 2 pointer, so they can only blame their defense for that loss. Mistakes happen, The refs didn't make half as many as the Chargers D has the first two weeks. They need to play better, a lot better. I think they will, I think they will right the ship and spank the Jets on Monday night this week, but I am getting ahead of myself, my week 3 picks will be done on Thursday.

-The Viks have issues. OK, so only one real issue and that is their QB. Letting a 15-0 lead go away at home. Settling for field goals came back to hunt them, it really looks like they don't have a qb, that is what their game plain tries to tell us, not let him manage the game, I think it is, hand the ball off, and please stay out of the way, and lets hope our defense holds on, with the way the Packers are playing, they might not even make the playoffs... I still like them to come back and win the division

-The Colts will be fine, their offense woke up just in time, and I see them getting closer to their old self and they will be back in the playoffs, and they will win the division again.

-My Giants look great, too bad it's because they played the Rams who might even make the Lions look good. Man they are bad. This week they got the Bengals, talk about a gift for the defending champs, lets start you off with a home game against a first year coach, then two cupcakes, enjoy. I see them putting up 35 points plus again this week, which I hope will help my fantasy teams.

-I hope everyone doesn't get hurt falling off the Brett Farve bandwagon. The Jets are so good, they will make the playoffs, and might even win the division now with Farve. Please. I tried to tell you that the Pats will be fine, and that the Jets are not that good. See what happens when you don't listen. I am sure there are a lot of other people who still thought the Pats would win that game, but I did hear a lot of Jet picks going in. Casell will continue to do what he needs to do, and they will keep winning games, like I said last week in my week 2 picks, instead of beating teams 35-10, they will beat teams 17-10, well I was close, they won 19-10. Sorry, my bad. The Pats will win that division, though the Bills have looked good so far, and they will make it to at least the AFC title game.

-KC, the Rams, Lions, Oakland, Cinci and the Dolphins, should have their own division, and just play each other for a year or two, give them some time to grow, get their confidence back up. They are just bad. All of them. Or even better, take all the good players off those 6 teams, and make one team, and let the other 5 go. Think Carson would be the qb, stephen jackson the rb, roy, calvin, tj, bowe, plus ochio cinco, in the best wide out group ever, between the 6 of them, they can find 5 good O and D lineman, I really like this idea, I really think it could work. OK, not really, lets just make their fans suffer some more.

Right now, that is all I have, I am sure I will think of more later. Just happy football is back, and even happier that basketball is close to being back too. After two weeks I am 20-11 in my picks, not that great, but not too bad either, I think I can do better, we shall see. I'm right, you're wrong.

college football week 3 recap

Again I will wait till all the games are done to do my NFL recap, so that will be tomorrow. Today, lets look at the college game. I got to see a lot more games this week, still not as many as I would have liked, but at least more then last week. So here we go, top ten things from the week of college football:

10) MSU-FAU- Ringer 43 carries. I mean I know the weather was bad, but my god. 282 yards and both TD's in a 17-0 win. Fl Atlantic played hard in very bad conditions, but I don't care who you are playing 43 carries and 282 yards in impressive.

9) BYU-UCLA- how good do you feel now Tennessee. The team that beat you just lost 59-0. Now BYU is good, but 59-0, wow, a Pac 10 team loosing on the road to a non bcs team 59-0. Tough break.

8) Cal-Maryland- and just because it continues the struggles the Pac 10 has, Maryland beats Cal 35-27 in a game that wasn't that close. Cal scored 21 in the 4th to make it closer then it was. Besides USC, who is sick, more on them later, the Pac 10 may be right there with the ACC and Big East as down conferences, at least top to bottom, but having the best team in the nation, does help.

7) UofM-ND- This is number 7, because of the 7 fumbles Michigan had. They did only lose 4 of them, 3 leading to ND touchdowns. In another game played in very hard conditions. But that was ridiculous. I mean do teams just always practice in their indoor turf rooms, that they never practice in the rain, never work on catching a wet football, I mean come on. That game was tough to watch. Now I am not a Michigan fan, or a Norte Dame fan but it is a game that will always be nationally televised and a game that even when the teams are struggling it is against two of the best programs of all time, so more people will watch then you may think, and that game was just bad. Norte Dame scored 14 points without getting a first down on their own, 2 Michigan fumbles, both deep in their own zone, a really late pass interference call, and two scores. Clausen did look good, He has improved, the line is giving him a little more time, and he does have a few more weapons, but this was just a ugly game against two teams, who still have a long way to go. It will be interesting to see the msu-nd game this week.

6)USF-Kansas- May have been the best actually game to watch of the weekend, though they were a few more close ones. USF won a close game, and a big home win for their. I think Kansas had their one great year, that no one was expecting and now will come back down to earth a bit. With OK, Mizzu, Texas, and Texas tech, they are at best the 5th best team in the big 12. A good college football game on Friday night however, nice to watch.

5) Auburn-Miss State- This is number 5 because of the 5 total points scored in this game. This is a top ten team. I mean I know their defense is good, but my god. That game pushed football back a good 20 years. It was painful to watch. 18 total punts, Auburn lost 3 fumbles, they were 3-16 on 3rd down, and Mississippi State was 0-14. 2 missed Fg, one blocked punt, and the only way Mississippi State scored was a holding penalty in the end zone by Auburn which by rule is a safety. My god. Painful. I just hope the Auburn fans enjoy their time in the top ten, because they have LSU next, and even though it is at home, their offense is going to need to play a lot better to win. They do have a favorable schedule with LSU, Tenn, and UGA all at home, they don't play Florida, and their only road game against a decent SEC team is at Alabama, and they are really young, so we will see how the tide handle some early success. They also go to WVU, but they are down a little, this year, so Auburn does have a chance with that defense to keep winning ugly games and having a real good record. God that was hard to watch though.

4) USC-OSU- really it shouldn't even be this high, but just because of the hype I will put it here. First off, USC is sick, they are the best team in the nation and I feel good about my pick of them beating OK in the national title game. They are much better then OSU. Having said now, even though I hate OSU, I don't think they suck, USC is just that good, they were playing on the road, without their best player, and they made some mistakes and got a lot of calls against them, one taking back a TD, one pushing them out of the ten, to settle for a fg, plus they missed a fg. So at least the 1st half was a little closer then it seemed. Having said that, they are not better then USC, and if they played 10 more times, I don't think they would win any of them. I also think Pryor should start for them. Boeckman did not look good anyway, and really their offense looked a lot better when Pryor was in there. There was more flow, and it really seemed the entire team had more energy when he was in. He was not nervous at all, in fact he seemed like the sr leader, not a freshmen playing in his first big game. He is going to be a stud, and they might actually be able to beat USC next year in the horseshoe, and maybe even beat a SEC team before he leaves.

3) OK- Was- Pour Coach Willingham, his days may be numbered. You have the tough loss at the end vs BYU with the block extra point after the terrible celebration penalty, then you have another home game vs the mighty sooners, and get embarrassed 55-14. Of course they were not going to beat them, but that is really bad. Also Oklahoma is looking really good, and with their schedule, having Texas, Kansas, and Texas tech, plus Nebraska for that matter, all at home, they have a clear path to the Big 12 title game vs Mizzu, where I see the winner playing USC.

2) Number two is for then there was two. With Frenzo loosing a tough game to Wisconsin 13-10 in OT, now it is up to BYU or Utah. Who play at Utah on November 22, to see what non bcs team has the best chance of being this year's Hawaii. ECU might also have a say, but I think with who Utah and especially who BYU has played, and beaten easily, it will be the winner of that game, assuming they are still both undefeated who may just get a bcs bowl.

1) CMU-Ohio- and yes, like I said, every time I do this, my bias will show and my Alma mater will be number one. This week it actually was a great road win for the back to back mac champs. Down 14-0 CMU came back, and their defense actually made some plays when they needed to. Last years mac Freshman of the year Antonio Brown returned a punt for a TD and also had 10 catches for 78 yards as the Chips held on to win 31-28 on the road to win another MAC opener. Next up Purdue for the third time in 12 months. Hopefully it will be more like the bowl game and less like the game down their last year. Keep it close, and lets have a chance. Go fire up chips.

Tomorrow, we will move to the NFL.. real quick. Congratulations to Mr Zambono for his no hitter last night. My fantasy teams really thank you. Nice work. I'm right, you're wrong.

week 2 picks

OK, well after going 11-5 in week one, here without any further ado are my NFL week two picks.

Mia at Arz- I like the cards in this one, Miami played hard last week and just couldn't get it down, now they go on the road, and same old thing. Cards win 21-10

ATL at TB- Atlanta looked great last week, cause the Lions might have played the worst 1st quarter in NFL history. Even with Garcia out, I like the bucks at home. Tampa wins 24-14

Chi at Car- The bears looked really good last week. Of course so did the panters. I am torn, I picked the Bears to win this when I went through and did my picks for the entire year, but I just picked the Panters when I did my picks for a pick um, so I will stick with what I said first. Bears D wins the game 17-14

Phi at Dal- in a game where I hope both teams don't score since I hate them both, I will give the edge to the home team with more talent. Cowboys 28-24

GB at Det- it would be a very Lions thing to do to win this game, just when everyone is turning on them. However, I don't see it this time. The pack win 24-14

Ind at Min- two good teams who are 0-1, and one will be 0-2. I think the Colts offense will bounce back and they will be fine. I don't know if the same can be said about T jack. Colts win 28-17

No at Was- I did pick the skins in my early picks when I did the entire year, but how bad their offense looked on Thursday, I am picking the saints. Even without Colston they will have more then enough to win this game. NO wins 24-10

NYG at Stl- the Engles made the Rams look really bad last week, lets hope for more of the same. Giants win 28-10

SF at Sea- the seahawks did not play well at all last week. 49ers catch them at a bad time. Seattle wins 35-14

Bal at Hou- I like the Texans in this one, and I am hoping for some Andre Johnson TD's. Texans win 24-17

Buf at Jags- The bills looked great at home, and the jags lost on the road, time to switch. Jags win 28-14

Ten at Cin- Even with Vince out, I like the Titans in this one, I am just so worried about the Bengals this year, I would stay far away from them. Tenn wins 17-14

Pit at Cle- The Browns go 0-2. The Steelers looked great last week and still win this week. Pitt wins 24-14

Sd at Den- here I might be in trouble, Denver looked great, but they played the Raiders who I think will be really bad. The Chargers didn't look good, now Merriman is gone, are they in trouble, I don't think so. SD wins 24-17

Oak at KC- in a game I feel truly sorry for the people there, and watching on TV, all 10 of them. I did pick the Raiders in my preseason picks, but I changed my mind. Kc will win 14-10 in one of the worst games in NFL history.

NE at NYJ- oh Brett Farve is so great, what a great win last week, and now with Brady out, they are the team to beat, the Jets are favored at home, this is their year. please, the Pats are still a better team, and the Jets beat Miami last week, and almost lost. Yeah the Pats almost lost to KC, but that is how they are going to have to play now, no more 35-14, hello 17-10. Pats win

one last thing. Not football related. I saw Mario and Darrell were not suspend and just fined 20,000 by the NBA. That is a mistake. They have not played one game, one minute at practice and they are at a rookie meeting, basically talking about things they can and can't do, and they are smoking weed in their rooms with girls there, when they are suppose to have no visitors, and of course, not do any drugs. I think they should have been suspended for at least a little bit. I will not go as far as Stephen A who wanted them done till xmas, but something else should be done. In saying that, I do hope they learn their lesson and can recover from that. But with only being slapped with a 20,000 fine, I would bet, their pot smoking days are not over. I hope I am wrong. Anyway, let me know how bad my NFL picks are, 11-5 last week, lets keep it going. I'm right, you're wrong.

week one recap

So now that all the games of the NFL's first week is done, lets recap. I went 11-5 on my picks, not too bad, but not that great either. Of course the big story is Tom Brady being out for the year. Let me say this, I do feel bad about my super bowl pick now, but I do not think they will just fold. They still have plenty of talent. I also think this will help show lots and lots of people either how good Brady is, or if he is just a product of having a great team around him. Cause if Cassel comes in and they don't miss a beat, go 13-3 and win the super bowl, we know Brady is overrated. However, if they struggle a lot, maybe miss the playoffs or just get in, we will know truly how good Brady is. Sometimes you can find more about how great a player is when he is not playing, and I believe this is one of those times. For the record I still think they will win the division, I am not buying the Jets cool aid. The Bills looked great week one, but I am not putting too much in that either. So super bowl, I don't like the Pats still getting there and winning it, I now like the Chargers, yeah I know they lost week one, but I think they will find a way, since this year may be their best chance, and I will stick with the Saints of course in the NFC. Vince Young's injury hurts them a little, but Kerry can come and and win, or maybe just manage some games for them, so I don't think that will effect them. I didn't have them in the playoffs anyway, and I still don't, even though they played very well. It's just week one people, relax. The Colts, Jags, Chargers, Seahawks, and Viks will all be fine, and all make the playoffs. Also we saw why teams needs to play their starters a little more in the preseason. A lot of rust, there was not a lot of high level of football being played. I know some was due to injuries which is why they didn't play, but if you are not going to use the time to get ready for the season, then why have it. Sure you don't want anyone getting hurt in the preseason, but what's the differences if someone gets hurt in the 3rd preseason game, or in the 1st quarter of week one. They are still hurt and still done for the year. Mac love to Mr. Turner, man he had a great game, the Lions are just bad. They looked like a team who thought they were really good, thought they would have no problem winning, and they just got rolled. I don't think the Falcons are that good at all, and maybe the Lions are not that bad, but both teams are not making the playoffs, and I was upset that I had to watch it, since I live in Michigan. The Bears defense looked great, some may have been on how rusty the Colts Offense was, but if avoid injuries that team can be good, because of how great that defense is, if the offense doesn't turn the ball over, they are going to have a shot in a lot of games, and that division may not be just handed to the Viks. It's great that the NFL is back. On Thursday I will do my week 2 picks. I'm right, you're wrong

college football week two

I will wait till tomorrow when all games are done to talk about the NFL. So lets talk college. I will not make a top 5 list this week, cause I was an usher in a friends wedding, so I missed a lot of games this week. The only highlite for me, at one point in the second half my chips were only down 28-14 to UGA. Then the wheels came off and they lost 56-17. But I am just concerned with them boucing back and being ready for ohio who played osu tough. We still have back to back mac championships to defend. Other then that, I missed college football this week, so next week will be better. I'm right, you're wrong

half empty half full

I am very happy the Giants started there season off with a win. Good division win to start, but I am not sure if they are good, or if the Redskins are just bad. Well at least the skins offense looked really bad. Lets do both sides of it.

Half empty:
the skins offense was worst then the Giants defense was good, and giving up that TD right before the half showed we may have trouble finishing half's and games, which could be a problem. Also the Giants did not score at all in the second half, and after the first drive when they scored a touchdown, we got nothing but 3 fg the rest of the game, and in the second half didn't get past the 39 once. If we are playing a good offense settling for 3 instead of 7 may come back to hurt us. Eli didn't play bad, but he had a pick, so I wouldn't say he played great, just OK.

Half Full:
our defense looked great, we got a lot pressure on the qb, we blitzed a lot and only allowed one touchdown. In almost every game, if not every game, we the defense only gives up 7 points the Giants are going to win that game. We moved the ball well when we needed to, and then we controlled the clock and the game, since we had the lead. Jacobs ran like a beast and plex had a career high 10 catches after getting paid. He showed no signs of rust and all signs point to him having a big year. All in all in was a nice opening season win.

I will take it, a win is better then a loss. I'm right, you're wrong

NFL Week one picks

The NFL stars tomorrow, and like most everyone, I am pumped. Especially because it starts with my favorite team, The NY Giants, on prime time, so I can actually watch them play. Now I do not think they are going to repeat, I will just say that now, I don't think that makes me less of a fan, just a little more realistic. But they won last year, so they get a pass for a year or two, before I freak out too much. Now to my picks. Unless said other wise, these picks are from a few weeks ago, when I went through the entire schedule and picked each game as a separate season, just looking at that one game, who would I think would win. Which did make teams overall records messed up, but my picks remain in the NFC No and Dallas byes, Viks and Seahawks win their divisions, and the Giants and Engels are the wild card, with the Saints, I like them a lot this year, winning the NFC. In the AFC, Pats and Colts byes, Pitt and SD winning their divisions and the jags, and browns, by default, I don't like them at all, winning the wild card. With the Pats winning the AFC and beating the Saints in the Super Bowl 28-17. Now without further ado, my week one NFL Picks, with a score throw out for fun:

Arz at SF- wow this one should be fun, get your tivo's ready, I like the cards, 35-24

Det at ATL- we found a game the Lions can win, against the Falcons starting a rookie qb in his first game. I am so mad I live in Michigan and one of the games I will be watching Sunday is this peace of crap. Lions win 28-14

Car at SD- the Chargers have some question marks, a lot of people are liking the Panthers, for some reason, not me, NOT SO FAST, the super chargers will win 27-14

Chi at Ind- Peyton hasn't played in the preseason, oh, I am so worried, yeah right, doesn't matter. The Colts open the new doom, officially, in style, Colts win 35-17

Dal at Cle- I hate the cowboys, but in the reg. season they are good. Browns have some questions with injuries, plus people expect them to be good, can't come up and surprise people this year. Dallas wins 31-21

Min at GB- I like the Viks to win the division, so you would think I would pick them here, but week one, Monday night, at home, I think the team will rally behind pour mr Rodgers and the Pack will win 24-17

TB at NO- I am a little worried since the saints have been in Indy all week practicing. But I really like this team a lot this year, and I think they will get the job done. Saints win 28-17

Was at NYG- Should be a great game. But at Giants Stadium, rings out, crowd pumped, the Giants will find a way to win this game. Giants win 28-24

STL at Phi- I picked the Engels to win the wild card, I think I picked the Rams to win a game or two, and it isn't this one. Engels big 31-14

Sea at Buff- if it was January I might lean a little bit more to the Bills, but going to Buffalo in September, doesn't scare anyone. Seahawks win 24-14

Cin at Bal- so many questions and problems for the Bengals. Not to mention they cut my buddy Keift cause he is always hurt. Ravens win 17-14 in a hard game to watch

Den at Oak- some people like the Raiders, I think Mcfadden and co are going to struggle, mainly cause Jamarcus is not ready. Even in Oakland, Denver wins 24-14

Hou at Pit- for a few years I have liked Houston, and gotten burned, maybe this is their year, but I am not falling for them again. The Steelers win 28-17

Jags at Tenn- I love the Jags, and I don't really like Vince Young, put those two things together. Jags win 21-10

KC at NE- Get ready for big spreads to start again. This will be bad, they have no chance. Pats win 35-10, and I am being nice.

NYJ at Mia- I would love nothing more if chad and the fish beat Farve and the jets, I am not sold on the Jets at all, I don't think Farve will have a big year, in fact I see more picks then TD's, so many people have them in the playoffs, I think those people are high. However, they will win this game, against well Miami is really bad. Jets win 21-10

well there you have it. Week one picks, lets see how I do. I am sure not very well, at least on the scores. But maybe I can pick most of the teams winning right, but no changing, they are here written down, so either I can tell you I told you so, or everyone else can tell me. I am just happy the NFL in back. If I can find them, me and my old room mate Rob did some NFL "put it on the board" out there predictions one night when we were at the bar, if I can find that piece of paper, I will write those on here tomorrow as well, so we can keep track of how I am doing with those. OK, now everyone tell me how stupid I am with my week one picks, ready go. I'm right, you're wrong

Top 5 play or players from the college football week

now that all of the first weeks games are done, lets see if I can have my top 5 players or plays, please feel free to add some for see, since of course I don't see as many games as I wish I did.

5) cu-csu- so I don't personally care about the Colorado-Colorado State game really at all but the game had a highlight for me, with back to back rick returns for touchdowns in the 2nd quarter, pretty cool.

4) msu-cal- Dell proved he is going to be a beast, I like the big play threats, and had some nice catches, and one almost, dang replay

3) lsu-app state- app state did lose a lot, but they are still solid, and C Scott ran all over the place, he looked very very good, tough runner, I like that kid.

2) BG -Pitt- mac love, just a nice win for the program and the conference, I hope no one gets hurt falling off the Pitt and big east bandwagon

1) CMU-EIU- I will save you time, each week something good for cmu will be number one, this week it could be hard at UGA. This week, Jean Pitts touchdown catch in the end zone was sick, and sneed ran very hard, which was surprising, also we had a walk on get his first catch ever, and it was a touchdown, nice story.

Big win for UCLA last night, and Fresno State, as the big east continues to look bad. I was surprised about UCLA who fought off 4 first half picks to get the win, I don't think Tenn is in too much trouble, they can bounce back, and with the bama win over Clemson the SEC is still in great shape, so no worries there. I picked Utah to beat Uofm so I am not surprised about that. I was wrong about Clemson, Rutgers, VA Tech, and Pitt, but I am happy Pit lost. This week there are some more cupcakes and maybe one or two good games, but I will talk about that more later. Tomorrow, since the games do start Thursday I will do my picks for week one of the NFL season. Football is back, which is great, that means Basketball isn't too far off. November can't come quick enough. I'm right, you're wrong
