week 9 college football wrap up

The conference season is in full swing and we are starting to separate a few of the pretenders and contenders. Here are ten things, or games, that jumped out to me on Saturday, feel free to add some I didn't mention.

10) Navy-SMU- Navy wins 34-7, why would I add this to my top ten. Because Navy did not attempt one pass the entire game. They ran the ball 77 times for 404 yards and won 34-7. That is great. One of their rb ran it 42 times for 224. 9 different people ran the ball at least once, and of those 9, 6 had at least 16 yards or more. It was the first major college team in 11 years to not attempt a pass. To make things funnier, SMU's coach is June Jones, mr pass happy himself, they were averaging over 300 yards a game, and was 11th in the nation in passing, they managed only 157, 27 in the second half, and they ran the ball 11 times for -13 yards. Yeah one team ran for 404, the other for -13, not hard to figure out who won the game, especially because it was rainy and bad weather. Oh and Navy was using their 3rd sting qb, and the rb who had 224 was their backup.

9) Bama- Tenn- The problems continue for Tenn, and Bama keeps rolling. They still have a lot of work to do, and there is no question this year's big question will be, should a one loss big 12 or sec team play in the title game over a undefeated psu from the big ten. All those sec and big 12 teams should have been cheering for osu Saturday, now that it didn't happen, or they going to fall off, because there is no question both bama and texas have a much harder road left.

8) Fl-Ken- 63-5, my god, in a conference game. I guess someone wanted to show UGA they are ready for them, that will be a great game next week, and loser is done, winner still has a bcs chance. Should be a fun one.

7) OK-K State- 58 points OK scored, I guess their offense is still fine too thanks, and 55 of those were in the 1st half. They need some help to get in the big 12 title game, but they are not done yet. They are still in the race, no question.

6) UGA-LSU- UGA wins 52-38 at LSU. Wow, putting up 52 points on the road at LSU, that is a very impressive win. I guess they are ready for the Gators next week too, that is going to be a great game. I can not wait. God I love college football.

5) USC-Zona- 17-10 USC win, For what ever reason Zona always plays them close. Of course when you are the dominate team in the conference you are always going to get every other teams best shot, and that has been the down fall for USC over the last couple of years. There is no question they are by far the best football team in that conference, and you see it during bowl games, and other big games that their is hype around, but every road conference game seems to be close for them, and even some on at home. They still haven't bought in to playing how they can play all the time.

4) Texas Tech-Kansas- Well I guess Tech's offense is ready for Texas. Putting up 63 on the road to another top 25 team, Kansas may be a little overrated but still, that was a impressive game. Even more so, the game was tied at 14, before Tech scored 21 in the second and third, and Kansas scored none, with each added a td in the 4th. Tech and Texas should be another great game Saturday

3) Texas-OK State- I think Ok State might actually be for real. 28-24 loss to Texas, that was a very good football game, between two really good football teams. Now Texas has to play Tech on Saturday, and then I think they will walk to the big 12 title game. The Big 12 actually has to be in the conversation about best conference, the SEC isn't so great, the big 12 is right there. I mean Vandy lost to Duke, Auburn lost to WVU, and is really struggling, Tenn is really bad, Ken is bad, I mean sure FL, UGA, Bama, and maybe even LSU are good, but the big 12, texas, ok, ok state, tech, and mizzu are all good teams, with great offenses. It actually would be fun if college football was like college basketball and they had conference vs conference challenged games, cause a big 12/sec challenged right now, would be great to watch.

2) MSU-Uofm- Sure Uofm is really bad this year, and has only two wins, and lost 4 games already at home. But winning in the big house is a big deal for Michigan State and that was a great win. It was also actually a very good game, back and forth, up and down, just a great college football game to watch. Maybe a lot of people outside the state of Michigan don't care, but to me, that was a fun game to watch. Being a Central grad they come first, but I do cheer for MSU when it comes to those two, so their first win in the big house since 1990 was a great thing.

1) CMU-Toledo- Road conference wins are tough, so you take them when you can get them. So even a 24-23 win at the Glass bowl I am happy about. We didn't play very well, and it is clear Dan is not 100%, which is why Brain should start against IU on Saturday because it doesn't matter whether we win or lose this game, we care about winning the MAC, and to do that, we need as many guys healthy as we can get. With so many injuries right now, we should use the week to rest up, and then we need to beat NIU on the road, to set up a HUGE game at k/s on Nov 19 on espn2, a game that will be for the MAC west title, and the winner should have no problem in the MAC title game at Ford Field. Ball State is a good football team and they have been beating up on people. But we are the back to back champs, and we are the champ until someone beats us, and so far, no one in the MAC has. D.O.T.... defend our title. I'm right, you're wrong.
